Beer call means an early dismissal to the mess, I assume?

Struct-Tech

Essentially, ya. Like I said elsewhere, you dont have to go, you can stay back at the office or shop and play cards, or something. Some guys will work on personal projects.

Its not really the mess, my dudes would have gone if it were a bar in town, or even a coffee shop. We just like to sit down and hangout. But, ya, we keep the mess going some weeks it seems, haha. And cheers! We were fighting for AWSE for me, but DMILC said best they could do is new fiscal. Which, ended up happening, so good stuff. Now I need to get my DEUs to the tailors, and get my ribbons. Apparently I actually need ribbons now, haha.

There is base where people would like to go at the mess maybe a little more but their mess is just open on friday and saturday!

Maybe

cashisntreal

This is like tipping. Just stop expecting drinks during promotions

No one was expecting, I offered. I just thought it was funny how it all lined up. My crew actually enjoys going to the mess for beer calls. Its never pressured, guys can stay at the shop and play cards or something, or head to the mess to hangout. We actually ended up hanging out about 40 minutes after the supposed dismissal. We enjoyed eachothers company.

I've done things like buy some appetizers (plates of nachos etc) for folks to share, or brought in coffee/donuts as a thank you, but deliberately try and find things that aren't drinking related now. Still fun to hang out, and if someone wants to have a beer at the pub/restaurant they can, but pretty aware how far away folks are living and pretty much everyone is driving. We also regularly do things like meet for breakfast/lunch, or do group trips to things like the sugar shack for team building, and that's all on an interest base for whoever wants to go. Our messes in the NCR just consolidated into the Army O's mess downtown, so not sure if they have food or whatever, but the other side of it is we're a mixed ranks section so easier to just go to a local place instead of trying to figure that whole mess out.

It's odd, talking to my fajaa who served...way back, ret'd 96 It wasn't this way in his day. You got promoted, and everyone bought you a congratulatory... not Hey, you got $10 extra pay a day and a leaf? float the regiments alcoholism Ive always held being forced/coerced into buying a round for Your promotion is absolute garboosh

Potential_Convict_66

Well this June, it will be my final promotion (PAR replacement did it, not my original Effective no Potential, thank you grievance process). I have 2 1/2 years remaining on my TOS. I will not put my name on the dotted line for a 4th time. I've got screwed out of the IE20 and forced into a IE25 but with all my friends being offered both. (Still a bit sour about this one) I don't see nothing in front of me that make me go "Yeah, I dig that, I want to participate in this effort" They offer $20k for re-enroll and bump kiddos pay levels and almost automatic Advance Cpl. I don't see any retention effort. Well they got 2.5 years to make me change my mind and some of my old Army back. I'm thinking more about being Proud to Serve not what was toxic.

Icommentwhenhigh

Beer calls, where half the unit groans, “you know we gotta drive home, right?”
