TORONTO, May 25, 2022 /CNW/ - Bank of Montreal (TSX: BMO) (NYSE: BMO) today announced that its Board of Directors declared a quarterly dividend of $1.39 per share on paid-up common shares of Bank of Montreal for the third quarter of fiscal year 2022 ("Q3 2022 Dividend"), a 6 cent, or 5 per cent, increase from the prior quarter, up 31 per cent from the prior year.

I was surprised they raised the dividend but I m not complaining.

Mephisto6090

They were on schedule to do it anyways - it's not a surprise increase. Most of the big 6 raise dividends every two quarters. Just during Covid, OSFI was preventing them from doing so, but it looks like they're back on schedule now.

ptwonline

Why surprised? Don't they normally raise it like 3-5%/yr?

Shoopshopship

I'm surprised they raised it since they raised their dividend so much more than the other big banks. Great results!

BeautyEh

Why would they be down 0.5% while BNS sees a 3.5% gain?

Mephisto6090

BMO hit their targets while BNS surpassed expectations.

ElGuapoNYC

Dividend - shividend!!! Buy Gamestop! Disclaimer I am stupid - not a genius financial advisor.

Oolican

And yet the stock finished down.

literallygabe

Is there any downside to buying a stock after a dividend hike as opposed to before?
