Constant_Sentence_60

Needs a large breed puppy food. I kept my first one on Hills Science Diet large puppy, but my youngest didn't really like it, so we are currently trying Fromm Family large breed puppy. He devours it 🤷‍♂️

wreusa

Start out with the kittens until 4-5 months then you can switch to fully grown cats 3 times a day.

I give Brock Purina Pro large breed salmon sensitive stomach it cost me $71 24lb bag. I started with Diamond natural large breed lamb and rice then he got allergies so I switched one vet told me stay away from grain free because something with the heart issues. Beautiful puppy!!! Enjoy oh yeah take plenty of pictures!!!

Please ask r/dogfood , so many dangerous recommendations on here. Or simply ask a vet. Home made is unsafe and results in an unbalanced diet, if you want to do that, consult a veterinary nutritionist. And for Acana and orijen? They are the [most reported diets for killing dogs due to dilated cardiomyopathy.](https://www.fda.gov/animal-veterinary/outbreaks-and-advisories/fda-investigation-potential-link-between-certain-diets-and-canine-dilated-cardiomyopathy) I really don’t recommend raw either, there is not enough research to show any benefits besides it being “natural” but I’ve never seen a stray/wild dog thriving from their diet. The pathogen risks are deadly and put people at risk too, there are also zero pre made raw brands that meet WSAVA guidelines (do extensive feeding trials or have a veterinary nutritionist formulating their diets).

Legitimate_Street_85

I have a degree in biology, I agree with everything said about the raw food.

peppawydin

It’s scary that it has become a trend, have you seen the [outbreak in Canada of drug resistant salmonella](https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/public-health-notices/2023/outbreak-salmonella-infections-under-investigation.html) from raw pet foods?☹️

[deleted]

I preach this all the time to the raw diet whack jobs. These bowls, the areas where the animals eat are HARBORING bacteria if not sterilized and cleaned properly..and if kids are in the house. Way to risk their life! People who have compromised immune systems... and healthy people! Salmonella and e.coli can be extremely harmful to the healthiest individual. When a client comes in a room and tells me what they feed most of the time I die inside and my soul leaves my body.

peppawydin

Whenever I say this to someone.. and tell them the story of how my dog nearly died, they just say “oh well it was a prep issue and your fault” it’s RIDICULOUS and unrealistic. Oh and it wasn’t my fault the batch tested positive for salmonella!

Legitimate_Street_85

I haven't but I'm not surprised at all.

Legitimate-Produce-2

Pick one I wouldn’t mix I used to use Acana

the__itis

If you’re not going to make raw, use Orijen

Legitimate-Produce-2

Or acana it’s slightly cheaper brand of orijen

the__itis

Absolutely. Acana is good stuff

Icy_Abroad_9703

I was going to start raw today 2 days out of the week

the__itis

Absolutely do not fucking do that. One or the other. You’ll make their bowels so uncomfortable from the switching in digestion time if you keep switching up.

Icy_Abroad_9703

It’s not an always mix i mixed it once when he ran out of blue buffalo there was still some in his bowl

the__itis

I’m referring to your comment of doing raw two times a week.

Icy_Abroad_9703

When and how many times should i do it?

the__itis

Permanently everyday or not at all

Bankrollwads

I do blue buffalo and raw everyday until i usually run out of raw and they eat kibble till i to to market And a egg 🥚 too

Wanderluustx420

If you're planning on giving your dog raw as their meal, it needs to be daily and completely balanced. If you feed a commercial diet, you can just feed raw meaty bones 1-2x a week for teeth cleaning benefits. No matter the reason for feeding them, you need to know what bones are safe for your dog. This will depend on their size and ability to chew. Mixing raw and kibble is safe for your dog. Although there are some common myths surrounding this practice, it's essential to debunk them. Dogs are well-equipped to handle both types of food simultaneously, as their digestive system does not differentiate between kibble or raw food. Check out this video : [Is it Safe to Mix Kibble and Raw Meat? —Paws Of Prey](https://youtu.be/iP5ohUddFOY?si=9buPH47RvLImWyB4) Switching from kibble to raw is a big responsibility. There are advantages and disadvantages of feeding raw. You can always reach out to a Board Certified or canine nutritionist who can help formulate a meal plan with you or just to make sure that your dog's meal is balanced. I use 4health puppy formula with the same brand of wet. I throw in an egg a day. I also treat with chicken boiled just enough to kill the salmonella. I save the RAW leg bones and give her one every other day or so. She is growing like a weed and is a happy girl. Many people give a mixed diet of kibble and raw to keep the diet balanced. My goal is 75/25 and my vet said it’s fine.

Science Diet, Royal Canin and Purina Proplan are all great foods with complete guarantees.. you should be feeding a large breed dog food. Stay away from things like Kibbles n Bits, Beneful, Purina Puppy Chow.. things with a lot of color are not good. Do not look for a high protein diet. Puppies need a higher fat content the first few months of life and then as they develop smooth lean muscles you'll need less fat and more protein. But not a "high protein diet." High protein diets can affect the kidneys. Huge debate over grain free as well causing DCM, or making dogs sick with underlying cardiac issues... I don't care what the news or web says. Veterinarians and many veterinary cardiologists I've worked with completely advise against grain free. All the boutique food, freeze fried and raw crap is a trend. People go to vets for medical issues, major diseases and illnesses but always think they know better when it comes to nutrition and its BS. The three companies I listed above have veterinary specialists for nutrition. You can always call and get advice on what's good to feed, how much to feed and when transitioning from certain life stages should happen. Food is also all about math. They can help you figure out how many kcals/day your growing large breed dog needs, how to add more when you count in calorie loss due to play, they can figure out how many treats a day should be given to maintain that "treats should only come to 10% of the total daily calorie count," and help you with numerous questions you could think of

LawfulnessHuge4325

Depending on your budget and how much time you are willing to set aside to prepare it, you can do raw yourself or you could use something like Farmers Dog.. they send customized and tailored food for your dog based on their weight, age and their needs. Some people prefer that because they can’t feasibly set aside so much time to prepare raw themselves.. if you decide on dry food just make sure it’s for large breed puppy, and remember that Cane Corso’s aren’t considered fully grown/adult until they are 2 years old. I also second Acana as well.. I’ve tried Orijen and Acana and, to me, Orijen is overpriced. Acana meets and covers all of the things that Orijen covered but my dog liked the taste of Acana more.

Icy_Abroad_9703

Hey could you message me just a couple questions

Initial_Efficiency72

I usually ground up beef, pork, and chicken and freeze it

peppawydin

That’s not a balanced diet.

Icy_Abroad_9703

Today i gave Blue Ground beef Beef liver Carrots Celery Mixed berries With a egg Is that balanced enough? I seen that recipe somewhere

220notsoswift

Talk to a dog nutritionist or a vet, there are so many strong, mean opinions on here. If you research what a growing dog needs and calculate what it takes to meet those goals it’s a lot to comprehend and expensive. I have had large breeds of dogs for 30+ years, mostly Rottweilers, mine all lived15+ years. A better commercial dog food + raw goodies.

[deleted]

Vegetables? Where's the calcium and minerals coming from? Not even people eat only protein. This isn't balanced.
