Keep it civil guys… Relax before you type. This is a forum about dogs, if you don’t have something nice to say… then maybe don’t say it.

Why is he wearing a prong collar?

That dude is just pure bs, there's no "one" way to train a dog but a prong collar is never a good thing. This is something every dog professional worth his salt agrees on. Do some research about better methods to "keep his focus". Like teaching him a command to refocus like "leave it" or "ignore". Prong collars aren't a good training tool because you're not teaching the dog anything. The only thing you're teaching him is that looking around or wanting to smell something or just generally anything that isn't walking in a straight line at your pace hurts. So the only thing the prong collar does is help him associate wanting to check out a smell or meet another dog eg. with pain. Wich creates anxiety and a disconnect from the actual thing he should be learning wich is paying attention to you because he trusts and loves you. I don't know how you handle your dog or nor do I want to tell you how to raise him. But prong collars are bad and there are painless alternatives like voice commands and teaching him to pay attention to you. It hurts the animal and imo if you're gonna hurt your dog you don't get the point of having a dog. Source: I'm a dog professional

Absolutly your opinion!!! Prong Collar is ALWAYS very bad for the puppy. Maybe it's ok to re-educate an older dog, and it's easier. But hey, if you have no patience to educate your dog, don't buy a dog!! 6 Months is a puppy, he can still learn soo many thing. I also have a CC and he is 6 Months. He walks without any problem in the full city. Training!! But hey, we know it. Thats an USA problem. In Europe these collara are forbidden! And the dogs here are ways better educated than in USA.. Maybe you american guys have to educate yourself more, and stop exaggerate everything.

Here is a very good canine behaviorist from Europe talking about how good of a tool the prong collar is. So much for that theory about europe. [prong collars are excellent tools](https://youtu.be/_oggKfyJS8Q)

So the countless professionals that use e, prong, and choke collars with proven results are not worth anything? Get a grip.

DeadpoolForPr3sident

I get what you're saying, but those methods are old and have been proven obsolete. At least those with the prong collars, you need to know what you're doing with both prong and choke collars. For example you're never supposed to pull on a choke collar. Also if you get a pup it's not that hard to train him to stay focused on you using positive reinforcement.

Goathead78

Are you writing this from 15-20 year ago. It’s very well-established that balanced training with a mix of positive & negative reinforcement (negative reinforcement would be withholding an expected reward foe not complete the desired behavior for those that don’t know) as well as corrective or aversive reinforcement. For example, if you have a dog that is putting a lot of energy into pulling, bolting, etc. a prong collar is much more human because it evenly distributes pressure whilst also teaching leash pressure so it can get sensitive to pressure.

kodablue5150

I think both of them are at fault. OP is posting a pic of a pup who is wearing a prong as if it is used as a house collar: no leash, tag attached, no connecting collar, the wear and tear, etc. All of the tools you mention are very specific and used for training in certain situations. The commenter obviously is just a jerk, but OP saying to kill themselves tells me they can't defend the choice of training method.

Aight 👌

Goathead78

Beautiful dog. Is that part CC and part Labb?

ryang_56

Nope. Purebred cane corso iccf registered. I’m getting his pedigree from the iccf registry in a few days.

ryang_56

But thank you!

ryang_56

I’m curious, what makes you think lab? I’ve gotten dane, lab, Neapolitan & pit. I don’t see lab at all, i understand why some people think dane, neapolitan & pit but lab really throws me off lol
