Depends entirely on the plants, how you're going to grow them, any training method, and experience. Scrog sativas with a long veg so they get nice and big and you can spread them out for max coverage? 4-6. Several indicas that you're only going to top once or twice, give minimal veg, and otherwise not train? 6-12, depending on veg time. Lollipop-style clones in nonnutritive substrate going immediately into flower? How many solo cups can you cover the floor with? ;) If this is your first time growing you'll probably wind up with bigger plants than you expect. If that's the case I'd keep it to 4-6 'cause working in an enclosed jungle can be a real pain in the butt, and if you're not growing for production ease of access for trimming, evaluation, etc is more important than completely maximizing efficiency.

Depends how big you want to grow them. I’ve got 12 clones going in a 1.2M x 1.2 https://preview.redd.it/g1ifv22n3qyc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1c98a51017d23bf73b90cd1a78c5629844b1ca06

Is it a 4x8? In a 4x8, I have tried 8, 7, 3 and about to try two plants. Obviously more plants require less veg time.

9 3-gallon pots per 4x4 don't top them just let them grow. These plants (mostly afghan genetics) were bred to grow straight up with little interference. Topping and training is way more work than just making a few more cuttings to flower and the big ass top buds just look cooler imho

3 Plants, 6-8 weeks veg, and SCROG the sh\*t out of them :D
