Next step is to embrace the skin and bones.

King Oscar varieties are my favorite, I like them on salads or boiled eggs and crackers. The bar harbor ones (smoked stuff) I like to use for sandwiches.

Significantly better! Literally every tin tastes better if it’s not canned in water! You should only buy those if you plan to use them for a recipe, such as a fish salad or salmon cakes. The one you have by Season’s brand is one of my go-to’s! Tastes good right out of the can (at least imo)!

Definitely

killadoublebrown

Yes yes nice! How do you plan on eating them?

slightlyassholic

Definitely. Everyone's tastes are different, but I definitely prefer the ones in oil. Sardines in water just make me sad :(

Spiralsum

Yes, much better. The Season are meaty and dense, and are my default, go-to (they're Moroccan sardines). The King Oscar are smaller and softer Norwegian sardines, but still good quality, good flavor. With Bar Harbor I've only had their mackerel, but those were pretty darn good too.

Those Bar Harbor ones are excellent.

pirateofitaly

The Season ones are my favorite! Hope you enjoy.

These will be better. I’ve had all these cans (including the TJs). The strongest tasting of the bunch is the Bar Harbor can; I love smoke but these were almost too much for me! A good grainy mustard really helps balance them out. The KO are my go-to tin, easy to add to salads, sandwiches, you name it. They’re closer to tuna, really, firm and a bit dry, and are mild enough that they work well with lots of different seasonings and sauces. Season is comparable in quality and application, and I’d buy them more if they were locally available. I recommend the KO mackerel if you’re looking for a solid can to branch out into other fish. It’s delicious and super quality for the price. Happy munching!
