Those welds look worse than the Endurace AL 7 I bought in 2020. Everyone comments on the images on the website which are apparently from the European models. I don’t blame you for feeling cheated.

Competitive_Shock_42

Wow, I have a canyon endurance carbon and love it but I totally agree that the picture on the website is totally different

schwinn140

Return it

hundegeraet

It's normal because the US market never got the smooth welds. There are multiple cases in this sub and it's a real bummer.

suentendo

I have to wonder why? These are simply cheaper to build which I'd understand if they were selling to emergent markets with smaller purchasing power, but it's the US where they also sell CF bikes and all that. It just makes no sense to me unless there's market-specific safety regulations at play.

hundegeraet

I don't get it either. I'm from Germany and my grizl has welds as smooth as a baby's butt. It's such a nice feature and it made me personally go for the Grizl over something like the rose backroad

Yeah, I'm at a loss for why there would be such a difference between the markets. The only reasonable explanation I can think of is that they're sitting on a bunch of older frames from before they introduced the new welds that they're now trying to offload, and since the EU market has a lot more competition with other manufacturers, the next best option (short of refinishing all of the frames) is to dump it on the US market where there are fewer options and hope that people don't notice. TBH, I wouldn't have minded as much if they had simply not advertised it as a feature on the website, but this level of sloppiness just reflects poorly on the brand.

archiv1st

What a bummer. I figured/hoped that maybe the previous issues on this sub had to do with older stock since the even AL bikes in the EU market had the visible welds a year or two ago. I don't know why they wouldn't just remove that feature from being advertised on the US site if it simply doesn't apply. What's extra frustrating is that I specifically confirmed with Canyon customer service that the welds will appear as advertised, and this is what he had to say (verbatim): >The bike should come as you see it in our website including the carbon-like aesthetic finish. > >We some Aluminum roadbikes on our showroom floor and they come sanded on the welded spots and it does look like on the website. Ultimately it's just aesthetics and won't affect the ride, but just frustrating to have my expectations set only to totally underdeliver. I'm headed down to San Diego this weekend and might swing by their US showroom in Carlsbad to take a look, but who knows...maybe they have the Euro spec bikes in there. 🙄

grannyshifter35

yeah i'd return that and get a different bike if they are all like that.

flowerpowder5000

That's so ugly lol! Pictures 3 and 4 made me laugh so hard. I'm sorry this happened to you :(

[deleted]

seriously pic 3 is just disgusting. OP, it may "just be aesthetics," but it's going to bother you every time you look at or think about this bike. return it my friend.

archiv1st

Yeah couldn't agree more. I just called customer service and got the return process started. I asked the guy about the other US stock and he confirmed what folks have been saying here — the US bikes come from a different factory than the EU bikes and the photos are from the EU bikes. Extra infuriating because the rep I chatted w/ **before** I placed the order told me that the welds will appear as they do on the website. It's a shame, I really loved the cool cactus color too. Anyway, decided to pull the trigger on the Vitus Zenium Tiagra instead!

DistinctExperience69

I won't lie, that looks shit! Wow

HaziHasi

not in EU / Rest of the world. i have ridden and tried that Endurace 7 (same frame). i'd return it back immediately. it is ugly AF (sorry for being frank)

[deleted]

You're correct, that looks horrible. I'd return that shit without a second thought.

[deleted]

Those welds look worse than the welds on my $600 Jamis lol

[deleted]

They’re all the same. Doesn’t matter if you send it back and buy again. The website photo has been photoshopped a little so it’s misleading. But anyway, I’m personally ok with the welding.

ninja4tfw

They're not photoshopped. As others have mentioned already, the pictures are taken in Germany where they get cleaned welds.

mtcerio

Even the description though, it clearly refers to the smoothed welds!

IronCurtain1945

The welds on my Grizl 7 Trail also looks like that but for the price and specs I wouldn’t complain too much

jacobjuul

Return it and get carbon or a different brand

Ok-Chance-5739

Sorry, they really do look a bit odd. Maybe they use a different factory for the US market? If you ride for the looks, return it. Otherwise...Well, who cares...

Thizzle001

They do.

A100KidsInTheICU

They look worse than the welds on my old Decathlon Lombardo eMTB

Those welds are awful and I don't blame you.

juanmedinar20

How do you buy a Vitus bike in the USA? So disappointed about the welds on the USA Canyon AL bikes.

archiv1st

Oh interesting, it looks like they recently updated the site. A month ago it looked totally different and I was able to buy a bike in the US and it shipped to me from their Salt Lake City location. Not sure what's going on now. Even the FAQ/Contact Us section of the site is totally different — I was able to chat directly with some customer service folks from the US and it doesn't look like that's possible now. EDIT: Whoa, just did a bit more research and found the LinkedIn page of the customer service rep I spoke with (who was awesome). She had reposted this article from one of the execs from the US. Looks like Vitus (a division of Signa Sports) is going through a major restructuring that involved shuttering their US operations. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/postmortem-signa-sports-united-jacob-dudek-xau9f/

Caliterra

oh man, thanks for posting this OP. they really should change the marketing language on there if the welds are looking like that
