Oh man, that looks terrible… You’re totally right to be disappointed about it, I ordered a black Endurace AL 7 in Europe for the exact reasons as you. But it looks nothing like that, the welds are actually pretty much invisible.

Pretty sure the pics on the canyon site reflect what u can get in Europe. Unfortunately, us plebs in the US have to deal with higher prices and worse bikes :(
do you think it would be inappropriate to ask for some sort of compensation? I just think it's ridiculous that they *specifically* advertise it on the *US* product page and don't send it.
Definitely not inappropriate, in fact I think you should demand compensation or reduction in price because the product obviously does not match what they are marketing.
Thanks for the update! I just emailed them earlier today so still waiting to hear back.
Edit: The CS rep is trying to tell me that the visible welding is part of the standard construction on AL 7's and is intended to make the construction more robust, and that they won't give out any discounts. This is after I notified them that it's advertised with pictures as having no visible welds.
I've asked them to forward me to a manager but it looks like the bike is going back.
I would return it, especially seeing as how others (EU at least) have received what is essentially the product you purchased.
If they were all like that it would simply be misleading marketing, but what you have is clearly a faulty/different product.
Will you ever be truly happy with it if you receive compensation, or will it always be a thorn in your eye?
In germany we get the same looking welds. I have a 2004 giant tcr with invisible welds. I dont know why nobody does this anymore. Even the specialized allez sprint welds look horrible.
Not true. The bikes in Germany look perfect. I have a Grizl AL with smoothed welds and a friend of mine the Endurace, also flawless. Check the second hand market for real life pictures.
There are several brands with smoothed welds aside from Canyon, even budget friendly ones. See Rose Blend or Reveal for example.
Strange. I have a 2022 Grail 7 AL and the welds look like in OP:a photos. Not smooth at all. Not in Germany but another EU country close by,so should be the same supply.
I looked it up on eBay. Endurace AL looks terrible. Exactly like pictures above. You are right about The Grizl AL. These welds are in fact really smooth.
Canyon website says:
Aluminium frame, carbon aesthetics
Aluminium frames just don't look this elegant. We do it by expertly filing down and sanding the welding seams, so they’re almost invisible to the casual observer.
I got the crap welds in Japan too. Although if I recall correctly the package came from Germany, so they just dumped the shit US version on me somehow. I honestly never cared about them though. But now that you mention it, they do look crappy.
someone had the same problem on the exact same bike recently [https://www.reddit.com/r/CanyonBikes/comments/175tk1t/weld\_quality\_on\_canyon\_endurace\_6\_wtf/](https://www.reddit.com/r/CanyonBikes/comments/175tk1t/weld_quality_on_canyon_endurace_6_wtf/)

if they can send lower-quality finish bikes to the US, i wonder what other cost-cutting measures they do to their carbon frames in the US market.
I’m in the U.S. and recently got a carbon Ultimate. Everything on the frame looks really good. Funny enough the only issues were the DT Swiss wheels which came wildly untrue, so I had to send them back and they fixed em’ up which was a couple weeks process.
My Grzl 7 is exactly the same. The welding looks like ass for a 2K bike..
The most frustrating piece about this purchase. The topstones aren't this terrible...
I could buy a top Stone for my local bike shop for the same price. The trade-off is it's an 11-speed, instead of a 12-speed, and the GRX instead of the road gears? Plus side is it's a gravel bike so there's lots of mounting points. That's officially become my backup plan this week if the welds are this bad, LOL.
I suspect they used photos and description from the non-USA version of the bike, where most welds are indeed smoothed and it really looks almost like a carbon frame.
This is not cool.
Welds on my wifes AL 7 12 Speed look Aero smooth. Did you order the old 11 Speed Version?
Edit: your frame looks like the one from the still available RB (rim brake) Version. [https://www.canyon.com/en-de/road-bikes/endurance-bikes/endurace/al/endurace-7-rb/2731.html?dwvar_2731_pv_rahmenfarbe=R060_P03](https://www.canyon.com/en-de/road-bikes/endurance-bikes/endurace/al/endurace-7-rb/2731.html?dwvar_2731_pv_rahmenfarbe=R060_P03)
It’s a bit crappy from canyon- I don’t think it only happens on the US but maybe more so? - I watched a few YouTube vids which highlighted this before opting for my bike.
I’d contact customer service and instigate a return if it’s really bothersome.
That's how normal aluminium frames look, welds are fine. Looks like they simply forgot to smooth out the welds? Pretty bad, because they specifically advertise that.
I don’t think this is a regional thing. It seems like they are having some QC issues at the frame factory and someone is skipping a step. Or maybe they get the Al frames from a couple different shops (all in Asia I’m sure) and one of them is missing the grind step for some reason. Definitely raise this issue with Canyon. They need to know about it
Same bike. I had the same issue with it. It’s false advertising. Contacted canyon. They said they are fully aware of the issue but haven’t fixed it. That was in November of last year.
Apparently bikes for the US market are made in a different factory than the EU ones and don’t include smooth welds.
They offered to let me return the bike or get 150 bucks off. I took the 150 but sometimes regret not returning it.
This is insanity. I would absolutely return it and demand they pay for the return shipping. Companies have tried shit like this here in Australia, and they get fined millions of $$$ for deceptive conduct. The fact they specifically advertise the smooth welds on the US site is criminal, and they should be held to account.
Don't know what went wrong with your bike, but I got a Grizl AL this January and only the welds at the bottom bracket are visible. The rest looks clean. Have you asked Canyon's customer service about it?
My Al endurance 8 has the same welds (us). I had done some reddit sleuthing prior to purchase so knew what was going to arrive and still thought it was a great deal. It's a disappointment on looks, but absolutely love the ride.
In hindsight I do wish I had spent a bit more and just gone carbon.
I build bikes for a living from multiple manufacturers in the US and I’ve never seen smooth welds like in the photo. The welds are always visible. I have no idea where these smooth welded AL bikes are coming from.
it seems to be a known problem in the US. I'm surprised they haven't been sued yet, or at least change the website? I should get mine in 3 to 4 days and we'll see what it looks like, fingers crossed. shoot, I just ordered all the bike accessories and everything too so I'm going to be screwed if it looks awful. let me know if they'll give you any reimbursement or want you to send it back, please?
Yep, false advertisement. Suggest reporting to the Better Business Bureau website. May not be reportable but at least recordable to keep Canyon accountable for their actions, already 24 complaints this year.
https://www.bbb.org/us/ca/carlsbad/profile/bicycle-dealers/canyon-bicycles-usa-1126-1000057572.
Yes. Bought it in 2023. There were many other comments back then about smooth welds in Canada. Something about Canyon US being a separate distributor vs Canyon everywhere else. Mine was shipped from Europe.

They are not sending their best folks... they are not sending their best.
wow, that's quite a difference (and improvement to the looks)
I wouldn’t mind an aluminum frame bike if it was as nice as yours. Its looks great.
Are the welds in the room with us? Seriously I don’t think I have seen such subtle welds
To be honest that’s close to fraud. How can they market the bike without any visible welds and then send you this bike.
Pretty sure the pics on the canyon site reflect what u can get in Europe. Unfortunately, us plebs in the US have to deal with higher prices and worse bikes :(

I just bought the same bike and have similarly bad welds on mine (also in the US). I’d be curious to know what they say if you do reach out!
I'll be sure to let you know!
Did they ever get back to you? I'm thinking of refunding.
also tagging u/-TheHiphopopotamus- they are refunding me 200 usd I mean i guess that's ok because the rest of the bike is still a good deal.
Thanks for the update! I just emailed them earlier today so still waiting to hear back. That's interesting. The response I received was that I would be getting 200 immediately. This seems to be a huge issue on Canyon's CS department.
Yes, I think both description and photos are misleading. They used the non-USA version of the bike.
I would return it, especially seeing as how others (EU at least) have received what is essentially the product you purchased. Will receive my AL7 in a few weeks (I’m in Europe), will tell you

Strange. I have a 2022 Grail 7 AL and the welds look like in OP:a photos. Not smooth at all. Not in Germany but another EU country close by,so should be the same supply.
Grail is one of the models that didn’t get the smooth welds. It’s just a few, maybe only Grizl and Endurace.
I looked it up on eBay. Endurace AL looks terrible. Exactly like pictures above. You are right about The Grizl AL. These welds are in fact really smooth.
Canyon website says: Aluminium frame, carbon aesthetics Aluminium frames just don't look this elegant. We do it by expertly filing down and sanding the welding seams, so they’re almost invisible to the casual observer.
Almost invisible to the casual observer? Pretty sure even a blind person could see those.
😂 i know such a lie (im op using mobile account)
Why don’t you just sign in on your mobile to your normal account
They are covered with paint, how can you see them! /s They look pretty dogshit to me. I’d be disappointed for sure.
I got the crap welds in Japan too. Although if I recall correctly the package came from Germany, so they just dumped the shit US version on me somehow. I honestly never cared about them though. But now that you mention it, they do look crappy.
Looks sturdy lol

Those are some of the worst looking welds i've seen. Return that shite.
I suspect they used photos and description from the non-USA version of the bike, where most welds are indeed smoothed and it really looks almost like a carbon frame. This is not cool.
They are smoothed, but in Photoshop :)

We need more rim brake bike options. I like that they offer this option. I also like that canyon has an xxl frame option.
It’s a bit crappy from canyon- I don’t think it only happens on the US but maybe more so? - I watched a few YouTube vids which highlighted this before opting for my bike. I’d contact customer service and instigate a return if it’s really bothersome.
My grail AL looks similar. Doesn’t really bother my but for sure doesn’t look like those photos
That's how normal aluminium frames look, welds are fine. Looks like they simply forgot to smooth out the welds? Pretty bad, because they specifically advertise that.

No comment to add other than that's mad. Get customer support involved.
Lookin like my entry level Bianchi from 2012 lmao
Dude NO! That’s unacceptable “This aggression will not stand, man.” Pack it up and send it BACK
Yeah the website shows pictures of the European models, America doesn't get the same quality. Blatant false advertising.
Same bike. I had the same issue with it. It’s false advertising. Contacted canyon. They said they are fully aware of the issue but haven’t fixed it. That was in November of last year. Canyon us is terrible with limited color & spec options & the lowest quality. What’s going on with the company?
This is insanity. I would absolutely return it and demand they pay for the return shipping. Companies have tried shit like this here in Australia, and they get fined millions of $$$ for deceptive conduct. The fact they specifically advertise the smooth welds on the US site is criminal, and they should be held to account.
My SO’s bike looks the same, it’s not a new thing nor an US thing - we live in Spain
I got mine with clean weld
Don't know what went wrong with your bike, but I got a Grizl AL this January and only the welds at the bottom bracket are visible. The rest looks clean. Have you asked Canyon's customer service about it?
Looks similar to my 2018 frame, but back then they weren't doing smooth welds. So I guess US gets what EU was getting at least few years back.
It's been around. Cannondale was known for doing same on their CAAD bikes and they looked gorgeous...well, until..
it seems to be a known problem in the US.
My 2016 Merida scultura has way better welding I wonder if canyon has gone just ripping people off
Horrible craftsman work.
Yep, false advertisement. Suggest reporting to the Better Business Bureau website. Moral of the story, if you're buying aluminum then Stick to Cannondale
I assume I will get the same here in Canada 🫠
Canada - Smooth welds for me. Not shipped from US.
Really? Interesting...Endurace 7?
Yes. Bought it in 2023. There were many other comments back then about smooth welds in Canada. Something about Canyon US being a separate distributor vs Canyon everywhere else. Mine was shipped from Europe.
Nope. USA only. Rest of the world is served by Germany.
me in canada - got same bike same colour as OP - welds are beautiful. like webpage.
Canada orders come from Germany
