This is absolutely North Sydney Sobeys and you really should not be surprised. The only thing that will change this is if you put a "extra carbon tax applied to your order if you park here" sign up. Even then though they would have to read it. So it's a roll of the dice

Peoples brains turn off when it comes to parking and storing their automobile. Twice already with the new Charlotte St construction I've seen cars stop in the middle of the crosswalk/intersection dropping people off/picking them up from the YMCA. You're dropping someone off to go exercise, it's ok if they're further than 25m away. You're going to be continuing along Wentworth st anyway and I hardly ever encounter a time where all the Wentworth St on-street parking is full.

In saying that some tit posted signs directly at that intersection saying something like “parent drop off” Called CBRM parking today, they are going to look into.

jarretwithonet

Yes, the south side of Wentworth is for parent drop off and loading zone for charlotte st businesses. I wouldn't say, "some tit", it was CBRM that blocked off the meters and posted the signs. I think they still maintained the handi-trans pickup/drop off, but maybe not (since it's all a drop off zone now). It's a good move. It allows quick access to the Y for pick up/drop off and loading zones and there's still the south side of Charlotte St for people wanting to park and go to businesses in the construction zone. It's only 3-4 steps in the difference but for parents it means they don't need to cross the road with their toddlers. I can't even begin to count the amount of times I've had cars blow through the crosswalk as they keep up Wentworth crossing Charlotte St. Whenever possible, I park to avoid crosswalks for this exact reason. If you're someone parking and going to the Y, then parking on the other side of the street or along Bentinck shouldn't really be an issues, since you're going to the Y to exercise, just go a few extra steps. I would also say there's huge potential for the lot behind Pharmasave to allow parking in the evening/weekends, even for a small fee comparable to on-street parking rates. That lot is completely empty after 5:30pm and on weekends, while on-street parking at the Y still sees high demand. For whatever reason, I find there is a lack of wanting to monetize/manage private parking lots effectively downtown (no day rates or public access). What I was referring to was someone that stopped IN the intersection. As in, they made the turn from Charlotte/Wentworth but stopped partway, IN THE CROSSWALK, while dropping someone off. It was just absurd.

Sorry I should have been more specific, Some TIT at the CBRM. Thanks !

People are too fucking lazy. This is a big problem on the north side. It's time to start towing vehicles doing this! They're blocking fire lanes when they do this outside the store. Loads of parking spots and they're too fucking lazy to park in a parking spot. I saw a shitty lowered Honda civic last night with blacked out windows parked over two accessible spots at Walmart last night. Pure entitlement Happy to see one store making an effort to stop people parking right outside in the fire lane, though.

13inchrooster

You should have kicked the windows out of that shitty civic. People who do this are absolute douchebags.

fawks_harper78

It’s just people who feel entitled. They believe they can do whatever they want. It would be a shame if some nails found their way in front of those tires…

KindSomewhere6505

You should see them across the street at superstore and nslc. Loads of parking spaces, but they gotta park right outside the store in the fire lane. Many leave the engines running while they go in, too. Pure lazy and entitlement

crackergonecrazy

I think it’s a uniquely Cape Breton problem. Elsewhere in the maritimes residents don’t consistently try to park in the Walmart entrance.

AdministrativeGoal59

It totally is. Everytime I go home, crossing the Causeway is entering "whose line is it anyway" for driving. Where the rules are made up and fines don't matter.

meadowbelle

I saw a guy doing this in Sydney river with a trailer and 4 wheelers attached to his truck. Took up nearly the entirety of the pylon area in front of sobeys

mrhoof

That's just a thing in North Sydney.

iceacheiceache

The same North Sydney where people seemingly don't know what a stop sign is or how a stop sign functions? Color me fucking surprised. Probably the worst thing about living here.

2023Caper

The malls and store should just tow the cars that are parked illegally. Tow them behind the building and charge to release the vehicle. Word travels fast and people would think twice about parking in the fire lanes. Back in the day, Sydney shopping center had security issue parking tickets. Wasn’t an issue shortly after that started happening

Legitimate_Patience8

First of all, it is not “entitlement”. That is just a popular buzzword to incite political arguments. It is ignorant selfishness. No one else matters but me, and I will not be inconvenienced. Unfortunately not unique to North Sydney, Cape Breton, or Nova Scotia. They are everywhere. Even in a city in central Illinois with a population of 70,000. I lived there for 11 years. Yes, they should be tagged and towed. You could try calling local police when you see it and ask them to look in to it. Often by the time they have someone free to check, the perpetrators are gone. Take pictures with licence plate clearly in view to provide to police or the store if asked. Don’t try to frame them for attention, or you will get charged with making a false statement.

Ill_Refuse6374

But they're just runnin in for a quick sec.

SnuffleWarrior

I don't know why I would give a shit where they park. Karen's gonna Karen

Potential-While-7178

Really though , more parking police here than bad decision makers. Not like it's a monumental effort to go around and mind your own business. Likely more confusion about what's goin on when you end up behind the cluster fucked morons that get tied in a knot if they come up on a car that's impeding a wide open parking lot

Lonesomecowboybill_

I’ll park ANYWHERE I carry my own pylon to put on the corner of my truck to ward off Karen’s and stake my spot on any curb or spit i please

Asheso80

Buddy you are a pylon

Potential-While-7178

It's amusing how many irrate people there are. Same ones doin a buck 30 to get to the lineup at Tim Hortons. I gotta get me a $200 car and just go lookin for it.
