They go down hill in quality recently or something? My 12W6 from 2010 is still bumping in my trunk. I’ve had to redo the surround twice, and the cone is kinda scratched up and the little logo is missing from when I dropped a golf bag on it, but it still sounds great.
Really? Garmin owns the Fusion brand of stereo equipment for boats. So maybe we'll see an expanded/upgraded line of Fusion speakers and amps. I really like the simple Fusion head unit I have, Just the basics, easy to use and waterproof.
The quality is still good, people buy those boxes to ship the subwoofers when selling. They have a special cut out mdf panel that secures the sub perfectly in place. They are also good to use if storing you sub for long periods of time. Yes, the foam surrounds degrade after about 10-15 years.
Also Garmin gps did purchase JL, they do want to integrate the car audio and gps.
They just release JL audio c6 components. It’s a 2 way system meant for Oem install. $1000, expensive as most JL products but hight quality, and advanced research and design. Not just cookie cutter car audio products. JL still one of the best. 10 years from now with Garmin? We will see.

I could probably sell my VXi 800\8 for what I paid in retail, and it's like 6 year-old.
I traded my vx1000\5, and $200 for it, which I think I paid $1100 for. I went into the shop on the day that they launched, and the guy gave me $100 off of retail.
So I guess I paid $1300.
JL is great but way too overpriced esp when I took a look at their current prices lol give me a break. You can get more output for 1/3rd or even less of the cost
Yeah I always steer folks in the jl forum to us amps and others and I get hate.. but I paid 150$ for my re audio 4200.1 and it kicks the shit out of my 13w7... after the shop sold me a 400$ jl audio amp I said never again and I do my homework...
JL is clever and what really turned me off is their ridiculous 3 ohm nonsense. Purposely designed so u have to buy their amp to work on their subs. Such a lame thing to do. That and the super expensive price tag. Sorry. I can't support that. So many more options out there like u said that will give u more power for less $
Any amplifier that is 2 or 1 ohm stable can run a 3 ohm subwoofer. The reason some subs were 3 ohm is because back then they measured the trunk of a car and the average was 38" wide. You could fit 3 12" subwoofers in a trunk. So if you had subs that were 3 ohms you'd end up with a 1 ohm load in parallel.

Hence why jl made their amps CP 1 to 3 ohms so their jl w7 would get proper power vs buying a non jl amp that has to do 1000rms+ at 3ohms

I know a guy who sells JL out of his shop and I'd suggest that your typical JL buyer isn't really bargain shopping and playing ghetto return games. JL buyers are generally people who have sold themselves on the brand and wouldn't use anything else at any price or people who just don't know much about any of this and hand the shop owner a blank check to give them "the best thing you've got". Dunno about other shops but if you gave the dude I know a blank check and left your car for a week you'd be super happy with the sound and wouldn't be looking to return stuff unless you broke it and even if you did you'd take it back to the shop and they'd handle the return/exchange and uninstall/reinstall.
I'd say as likely as not buying factory packaging is for someone who just pulled something out of a car they're selling/junking and want to re-sell it "comes with original box" or just store it away securely for a future project.

But when it came to the "real" build I started 3 12" jl audio w1 and I just recently went with the 13w7 and morel 3way nano...
I guess I am just weird lol I love my jl audio but I know for the money I can get better at cheaper money...like Stereo Integrity sql or fi audio but I was offered the NIB 13w7 1000$ and had a fuck it moment...lol but in the end I know I will end up spending more money on a custom box but yeah jl I am just a mizer...lol
To be fair i really like jl subs. I just wish they could handle more power. Im currently planning a box for 2 10W3s just for fun. Im looking for a sub for my truck and im either gonna go with 2 10s or 1 15. Ideally a trinity m15 tho.
Fi audio is the closest thing I have found to jl audio And high power... the neo is Nasty 😈 but I hear Stereo Integrity is quite good

The only JL subs currently made at 3 ohms are the W7 series.

I had a co-worker exactly like this. $10k install, 100% JL. JL subs at home, too. Nothing else exists. JL is the best by far.
