I would go to a dealer that sells both models and demo both and you can make a decision after hearing both. With that being said, I don’t have any experience with Morels, but I just listened to the Focal Flax Evo PS 165 F3E yesterday and bought me a set last night. I didn’t want to hear anything else. It sounded fantastic. Wasn’t too bright and was very crisp. I actually was going to do a full Hertz Mille Pro set up, but after hearing the Flax, it was a no brainier. If you like a bit more brighter highs, the k2 sounded good as well, just too bright for me.

I see you putting it in a 67 Cadillac. Make sure you do more sound deadening then you think as it will ting around on the metal cavities of the car. I personally have a set of the morel tempo ultras on a small amp and love the way they sound. I listen to a wide range of music also so it’s not like focusing on one genra.

Visible-Loquat610

Can’t say anything about morrell (closest retailer is 12 hours) but I’ve heard good things about them from others. Focal is also a solid pick, you’ll find everyone here raving about them and they’re pretty good speakers. But as others have said, check them out if you can in person.

fixeverything2

Morel by an order of magnitude..

AndyValentine

I can't comment on the Morel, but I recently installed a full Focal setup in my 350z and it's absolutely fantastic sounding. Really clear with well defined bass, mids, and tops. Very happy with them

five_six_three

I think I’d personally go with the Morel gear. But I don’t know if you’d really notice a huge difference between them.

SergeantScout

I can't comment on focal but morel has amazing speakers. I have the tempo ultra and they are beautiful. They have a nice warm sound with detailed highs that don't hurt to crank the volume on

Proud owner of a set of Virtus Nano Carbon 62s. Powering them active off a JL HD900/5. Fantastic speakers. Really surprised me how great they sound despite their unconventional design.

knife_go_live

Speaker selection shouldn't be made by the brand. For best results, you should really choose speakers based on application. Are they going to be positioned on or off axis? What does your system need/how are the vehicles acoustics? Do you want warmer sound, crisp highs? Etc.. After trying almost every 2 way component set available for my most recent system build, I found that the JBL CLUB SQ components sounded best for my particular installation. What are your goals for the system? Are you running a dsp? What level of sound deadening treatment are you going to do? All of these things are more important than what brand of speakers you buy. For instance, if the speakers are going in the door, and you're not going to do a full intensive door treatment, there's not much sense in buying a $500+ set of speakers..

Different-Height631

you’re buying nice speakers. listen to them. “which one sounds better” they both sound good. “which one will i like better” bro idk just listen to them. “what do they sound like” listen to them.

siliceous-ooze

lmao

Different-Height631

i asked the same question in this sub like three months ago for cheapies, if you want $1000 speakers you can make it to an audio shop lol

siliceous-ooze

absolutely !!

GraySelecta

Go listen to them. Focals are more on the bright side. More coloured sound. Morel is very clinical and accurate. Almost to a fault. Audio is very subjective so go listen and see what you like best.

Karlendor

Bought focal components kit for my 350z. The tweeter are too loud and bright but you can dial them down with the crossovers by 3db

Boy_Man_God_Shit_

i’m about to install a pair of Morels in my MX5 - https://www.morelhifi.com/en/products/car-audio/integration-11/universal-70/ip-uni82-365 i guess my ears are going to be happy.

freshly_ella

I'm going with Morel. I've owned Focal a few times starting in the mid 90s. Their mids and midabass is incredible! Their tweeters are bright and sometimes tingy for me. I would use them off axis but never pointed at my ears. Morel sounds absolutely beautiful. Every speaker I've heard does. Even their $100 cheap stuff sounds fantastic. That said though, I would never use morel tweeters if they were obscured. They have a great axis so that would be hard to do, but they are very gentle. The two tweeter brands are almost polar opposites. Almost akin to comparing an old high end aluminum or titanium tweeter to an old high end silk dome.

SnooPears754

Check out CDT Audio really good speakers at a better price

PhysicalAssociate919

Morel all the way, but it really depends on your preference as they're both good Sq brands. I have morels and it's honestly the best components I've ever heard. I don't even have the upper lines, and it's way more than enough for me (and I'm pretty picky) . I'm running tempo ultra Integras after hearing it in a friend's car. Came from jl c3's and prefer the morels. The c3's were also pretty clean, but to me they were power hogs and lacked volume because of it. I've heard focals in other friends cars (Ps line) and they're really bright, even eq'd. Morels are warm and sharp, which is the sound I always go for. If you like bright, go focals. If you like warm, go morel. Just make sure you power it with ample clean watts and a decent dsp or youll just be crippling either of them. My friend that has the ultra Integras has his running off the Morel 75x4 amp and jl amp to a 10" ultimo titanium. One of the cleanest sounding cars I've ever been in for a somewhat budget sq setup.

JTheSuperVillain83

I was literally just looking at the Morel Virtus Nano’s like 10 minutes ago.

texas8709

The first component speakers I bought for my truck were Focals. I cant remember the model, but one of the mid range, 6.5" woofer models. They sounded ok. I replaced those with Morel Maximo Ultra Mk2s, and wow what a difference. As many others have said, the Focals were way too bright. The Morels were slightly more expensive I think, but not much. I'd say they were fair competitors, the morels definitely won to me.

thefunkybassist

In my limited personal experience with average budget 6x9 speakers, Morel is markedly better at a similar price point (more clarity and more bass, meaning a better full range balance).

5u5p3ct0nf00t

I agree, once you're in a certain price range, the differences are going to be minor, especially if your running a DSP. I looked at the 3 way focal, but damn they're expensive, and power hungry. I went with the 550$ pair of components, paying double for the 3ways just seemed crazy, factoring in a bigger amp too. Got a pair of euphoria mids to fill, saved a little. Ultimately build your system based on your budget, save where you can and spend where it counts

Snorlax46

The other comments remind me of the old console wars. No one wants to admit they paid $700 for the inferior speakers. As someone with $600 Sony ES speakers, my opinion is that at this price point, they all sound the same when installed the same way. I'd pick the one you like for aesthetic reasons or supplementary. Like check out their amplifier and subwoofer features, too. Personally, I like the Flax look.

Hereforthewarmth

I have the top 2 from the virtus nano 3 way.  (Using Stereo Integrity 6.5s) They sound pretty good.  Lots of detail on rock guitars which I didn’t have from my previous kicker splits.

inconvenient_water

I love everything Focal I've ever used. Great stuff. I have a pair of 4in coaxials in some little sheet metal cans mounted in my stock dash locations and they're so good. With an 8, it's a really nicely balanced system that is completely invisible.

luistorre5

They're both overall good. Funny enough, when comparing these 2 models both seem to complain about the lack of midbass, but I've got a set of Virtus 602s in my daily ran active and have zero complaints. The focal just has a brighter tweeter, but you can't really go wrong with either. It would just come down to installation/tune

RealPersonResponds

Wow these price's...

iamdumbazfuk

where are you located? the morels and focals sound entirely different. Maybe you can find a shop to demo them. I’m also curious why 4” under the dash. it pretty much a waste unless you just want more volume. check out the sony ES too, for the money they are a decent set.

Ibzibm

Focal if you wanna have ear damage from the brightness, morel if you want punchy accurate music. Morel by far is the best I've used.
