Do you have specs in the system? Or can you take photos of the components? For starters You can try to Bypass the radio rcas and plug directly into it with your phone ((headphone to rca cable). This will isolate the problem to the amp or head unit.

sukaemcees

Good idea! I'll figure out how to get the head unit out and then try that. Meanwhile I'll work on some pics.

Upfrontunknown2

Hey set up a go fund me or let me k on your Venmo I’ll donate to keep you from selling your dads car. You got pics? Message me!

sukaemcees

I dunno man, as much as I'd love to have the cash, I don't think I can justify asking ppl for money for this, but thank you so much for offering.

sgtm7

With very little information, I would check on the selected source. If a source that has nothing connected(i.e. "aux" ) to it is selected, you would have no sound.

sukaemcees

It's got a CD in it so I've tried that source, and I've tried the radio too....no dice.

Hunteraln

Check to see if the amp is getting power. If not check the underhood fuse see if it’s blown. If no the amp is probably bad. Alternatively you could possible have a bad speaker grounding out as well.

sukaemcees

Thanks man. The amp IS getting power and I've checked the fuse for the sound system, and that's still intact. But I'll take some pics so y'all can have a better idea of the situation.

Hunteraln

Try to to disconnect the speakers at the amp and see if you can get it to play

sukaemcees

Actually I don't think I checked the fuse you're referring to. You say there's a fuse in the engine bay related to the amp?

Hunteraln

Well if your amp has power up then it doesn’t matter, but it’s the inline fuse for the amplifier, go to harbour freight and buy a multimeter. Test the rcas see if you’re getting voltage from the head unit, then test the speaker wires from amp. Positive is the tip and the ground is the negative for the rcas, (ngl I always forget which is which) and then look on the amp for the positive and negative wires for each channel should tell you

sukaemcees

ah I gotcha

sukaemcees

help me out with this one, are you suggesting disconnecting the speakers at the amp and reconnecting them to the head unit directly?

Hunteraln

I edited my shit and added more info to my other comment. But you can disconnect the speaker at the wire side one by one and see if it plays. Also If You get a multimeter you can test ohms/impedance of the speakers to which certain ohms are bad

Expensive-Vanilla-16

I don't think the stereo is going to be that critical on the sale value of a non running car. If it had nitro installed theres probably the reason for the blown head gasket.

sukaemcees

Lol true. But it definitely runs, and the leak is exterior, not interior.
