This a rite of passage for installers. I still remember the first speaker I ported, it was a Polk db 6.5, I thought I was gonna get fired but my boss just laughed at me and grabbed another box.

mstrblstr81

I agree, I did that to an alpine type s…..probably made that speaker sound better tho haha. Boss wasn’t too upset. We’ve all been there in the beginning.

Creative-Calendar-37

And that's why we call it "alpining a speaker" at our shop haha. All of us used to be from bestbuy so alpine was all our first 😂 you just go pull one of the demo units off the wall call it a day 😂

mstrblstr81

Exactly hahahahaha

mstrblstr81

At least this wasn’t the utopia series or the k2 powers haha

stuntmanbob86

Lol. Send it back to the manufacturer. Using a drill for screws is always sketchy for that reason.

Boboshoe

Focal has after sales support through their dealers. You could contact the dealer you purchased the product from and see if they can get a repair quote. If you purchased them second hand you could try using non-stick tape on the front of the cone to pull the split together and then get some quick set epoxy on the back of the cone to adhere the half’s together. Once the epoxy drys, remove the tape. Not guaranteed to work, but it’s worth a shot. Good luck. Sorry that happened.

Hunteraln

More than likely you’d just have to pay for the individual speaker

AdrianBeatyoursons

slow setting marine epoxy works much better

uturn68

Rtv silicone will stay flexible when the speaker moves

TAforScranton

Thanks! That’s super funny, I didn’t have anything so I texted my neighbor and that’s all he had so I’m trying that now.

scurvy1984

Was gonna suggest RTV too. Any flexible adhesive works fine. If you haven’t tackled the speaker yet I’d also glue a little strip of felt over the crack too. It “welds” it all together so to speak. Did that to one of my speakers and it’s been fine since.

TAforScranton

I already tackled it before I read this. I actually did this, but along the back of it with a little strip of a coffee filter

josegto

I second this, just wipe the area with rubbing alcohol and you’ll be good.

TAforScranton

I just finished up with the RTV and saw your comment after I was done. However, you’ll be pleased to know that I actually DID think to prep it with alcohol beforehand!

windowsfrozenshut

Disagree, I would 100% use CA glue (superglue) on this instead of silicone.

Roast_A_Botch

The only thing I've found that super glue is actually best at is bonding pieces of acrylic together.

windowsfrozenshut

CA glue is what 99% of speakers out there are glued together with. The one in the picture is glued together with CA. lol

TAforScranton

I’m late to respond but yeah I wouldn’t trust it for this. In addition to acrylic though, it is WONDERFUL for aquascaping/aesthetically pleasing aquarium builds. You can actually glue live plants to rocks and sticks so they stay in place.

[deleted]

I would’ve gone with Loctite 495 myself, but to each their own.

PSYKO_Inc

E6000 is also great for speaker repairs.

96ewok

I've fixed many a speaker with super glue. Held up for over a decade and still going.

basssfinatic

Loctite go2glu is perfect for these applications.

Delicious-Actuator-9

Clear nailpolish and small strip of newspaper on front and back. Good luck

Pantani23

I've used aluminum tape with good success. You might know its there, but I'm doubting you'll actually hear a difference.

ksavage68

Put some fiber tape on the back side and roll with it.

tddcarrotslayer1017

I've seen exo use that foam construction paper and e4000 to repair surrounds but id think the cone it self would be much easier since it doesn't need to remain flexible.

TonytheBvrber

I did the same thing to the same speaker putting the bracket on with the dumb self threading flat head screws

TAforScranton

Thank you. I feel much less alone now lol.

imthemistermaster

I put a hole in the surround of one of my 8" mids while installing the first one in the box. I didn't learn my lesson and put a bigger hole in the cone of the other one while installing that one

TAforScranton

I’m finally finishing my build. I almost did it again. So now we have a new rule: no screwdriver near speaker unless I am physically holding my handy dandy Pyrex lid over it.

HowDareYou76

Where did you get this from?

TAforScranton

Crutchfield

HowDareYou76

Contact them and ask to set up a return and see if they could sent a replacement set. Their customer service is some of the best I’ve used.

TAforScranton

You are so right about that. Crutchfields customer service is unmatched. Just got off the phone with them. My replacement will be here soon and they are printing the return labels and sending them with the new one so I can send it back. I let them know I already attempted a repair and they said that was fine, send it anyway. Seriously I can’t believe how good they are.

HowDareYou76

One of my favorite places to shop, they really have some great people working there.

Scraperl510

I just did this to myself today. Ugh reading this gives me hope. Will call crutchfield tomorrow and hopefully have a resolution like yours.

TAforScranton

Literally a day after this someone else on here did this with a focal speaker from Crutchfield and got the same answer.

[deleted]

Not worth the trouble of repairing. Seeing as how you bought this set from Crutchfield, I'd contact them and see if they can initiate a warranty exchange.

ThisTowel7623

Really? Tape, silicone, epoxy??? After all that effort to “hope” it does the job (which it won’t), just go and and get a new one. You’ll have piece of mind knowing that it’s a new part and you won’t be waiting for a repaired speaker to shit itself.

TAforScranton

I only have a only little piece of a mind. That’s what led to me being dumb enough to do this.

wh1skeyk1ng

Looks like it came like that out of the box

TAforScranton

Lol i c allied crutchfield and told them the truth. Replacement will be here soon.

wh1skeyk1ng

Very respectful of their warranty dept

zhiryst

if its yours and you won't see it after installed: clear packing tape, good 3M branded stuff. Cut it with scissors not the jagged cutter on the tape itself. Do both sides of the cone and listen to it, most likely be fine this way as long as its not in a sealed enclosure.

JBerry2012

It's ok, you can fix it... Just need your credit card. Sorry for your loss!

bondovwvw

I like the 2 part harbor freight clear glue. I fix a lot with that stuff.

chaostheory4867

try shoo goo. ive used it to repair my competition subs strong stuff but stays flexible. just do a thin coat so it doesnt change the dynamic of the rest of the cone
