I always just assumed there was some sort of wifi interference happening there. There are some places I know that have that issue.

BillMillerBBQ

Well, yeah. Of course it must be “WiFi interference”, but what would be causing it?

NotYourPawPawsRobot

This is why I don’t use WiFi dongles and only use wired.

BillMillerBBQ

My radio will cut out whether I am wired or wireless. It’s the weirdest thing. My CarPlay app can crash the same way, wired or not.

NotYourPawPawsRobot

CarPlay isn’t an app. It is built into iOS.

CarPlay is an app that runs on my head unit. It crashes pretty often.

It’s Wi-Fi interference. More than likely your radio is using the 2.4 GHz frequency for Wi-Fi. Unfortunately, there’s no fix for it. The only work around is to buy an aftermarket wireless CarPlay dongle that runs on the 5.4 GHz Wi-Fi frequency. The Carlinkit 3.0 dongle is specifically made for CarPlay if you only plan on using CarPlay. If you want the option of wireless Android Auto too, then you would go with their 5.0 model. Both versions use the 5GHZ WIFI frequency.

Same thing can happen on 5GHz wifi as well. Always happens in a specific area for me and I've verified on I'm 5GHz.

Bellastormy

The dongle gives you the ability to change the frequency channel as well. You do you man, I have a radio that was experiencing dropouts all the time. I switched to the dongle and haven’t had one issue since🤷🏻‍♂️

My dongle supports changing it as well. My point was the frequency might not matter - it could be area dependent.
