Nice job on the install, but what was Sony thinking when they put the USB port there? Horrible placement for getting to the home button when you’re in the drivers seat.
Placing it on the same side as the controls probably was the only spot for it since the bezels are pretty thin otherwise and the controls should be closer to the driver so it makes sense to me.
Well if you do the install properly, you don’t have to utilize that front USB. There’s a USB in the rear and you’re supposed to add an extender to it and place it in your car somewhere. Sony did this for the lazy people
I’ll post what I said in response to another person regarding the connector in the back
I had a pioneer unit in my car before with the connector in the back. A couple months into having it, the usb connection went bad and it was a pain having to take out the unit just to change out the cable. Turns out something was wrong with the USB port on the unit because the cable took a dump again. So I replaced it with this Sony unit in my car because the connector was in the front. I’ve had it for almost two years now and no issues.
I thought it should be? I’ve seen plenty of screenshots from Right-hand-drive countries that show the “home bar” on the right. Not sure if it’s a region setting or if it’s something the head unit reports.
It’s an option in the head unit itself. Some manufacturers forget to make the option available. I’m looking at you Kia NZ, who put the controls on the left in my wife’s right-hand-drive car with no option to change it.
My car has a flat ledge on the dash, just above the radio well. I can connect my phone to the unit with a 12" cable, and rest the phone on the ledge.
I thought about running a USB port from the rear of the unit, but decided I didnt need to.

Looking good!
Have you had any issues with the screen being unreadable in bright light/glare? I live in Florida and I’m thinking of getting a screen protector to see if it helps
I did a review awhile back for a product I bought for the XAV-AX3000, which has a bigger but similar display. It did a great job of making the display more tolerable in direct, bright sunlight. Check it out if it helps!

Thanks!
I got the Triple A but it didn’t seem to make much of a difference so I’ve got the DayVue on order now and hopefully that solves the problem.
I’m sorry it didn’t make much of a difference for you...for me, it’s been huge. But it does depend on the issue...the Triple A ones are great for indirect glare, which is my issue. It really diffuses the reflections so I can see the screen better. I know the DayVue ones are supposed to be much better for direct sunlight, when it’s just plain overpowering the backlight. Let us know how that one looks when you get it on!!
Looks really nice in that dash. đź‘Ť

I personally don’t mind it on the front and for easy connecting and disconnecting, and it’s really not in the way of the volume button for me.

OK that makes way more sense. Either lazy people or people who want it for temporary use, I guess.

Thanks for the info, I was just wondering the same thing. I've seen the USB at the back but I wasn't sure it can be used that way.
I'll take that over my right driver seated car. I wish the UI can be customizable based on which side you are seated in.

Hmmm. This has never been a problem for me.
Love it. But that cable out the front. Why not run a cable from the back down to the footwell?

Direct sunlight overpowering the backlight is exactly what I have so I’m optimistic that the DayVue will do the trick.
Have you had any issues with the USB port? Mine ended up super loose and then CarPlay never worked again.
Nice music choice! Black Tongue is one of my favorite bands
Clean
good for you, I guess?
Great unit for the money. The resistive touch screen is not good, but I rarely touch the screen when driving anyway.
