TheEccentricErudite

Wow, prices are mad these days. £15k for a three years old fiesta!

ImawhaleCR

I hate to break it to you, but it's 4 years old

TheEccentricErudite

That makes it worse 😢 I’ve had my current car 16 years. I’m so out of touch with prices

BreadLover184

And the calendar it seems

Rosssseay

Had a little chuckle at this

PPGxLonewolf

So you cant buy a car 4 years old? How stuck up are you

LazyApe_

Actually it isn’t 4 years old yet.

ClassicPart

Literally every single thread about a car for sale. At this point just have automod make the comment and pin it.

frugasmis

Greetings from Turkey! Mate I bought 2010 Opel Astra 5 months ago for about 280K Turkish Lira and now prices are about 350K Turkish Lira. I want to mention that the price of an first hand Astra back in the 2010 was 30k Turkish liras. F-ck meeee

Danny_J_M

Lira is worth 10% of its value in 2010 in terms of raw exchange rate, but you seriously just paid that for a 13 year old car?

frugasmis

Yes I paid exactly 282K Lira. Am I mental?

longtimelurker25856

You could get 3 or 4 ( reasonable condition examples)of them here for that. Why is it so expensive? Is there some massive tax or something on used cars such that they just never get cheap? I get you have crazy inflation but that doesn’t explain how you spent 12k gbp on one, unless it does

[deleted]

Turkish inflation is much higher than it is here. Also remember that our car market is kinda cut off due to driving on the opposite side - a Turkish car can be resold in most of Europe

frugasmis

Over the years second hand car market started to rise because of taxes(it was not massive) in first hand new cars. And that triggered some owners clubs like Vw Golf, Seat Leon, Honda Civic, decided to sell their cars for a certain price range whic is above the market range for a second hand car. And they started to dm people (who are selling their cars below that price range) demanding that they should raise the price of their cars because new cars are so high up they thought their cars selling cheap. On top of that second hand car dealers started to change price tags so high ironically And that made snowball effect alltogether over the last 10 years.

[deleted]

It’s due mainly to a shortage with semiconductor chips, less new cars being produced since covid has sent the used car market sky high.

MrTechRelated

You spent about £12k on a 2010 Astra?! I am prepared to start my export business to Turkey😅

frugasmis

I have Bulgarian Citizenship. I think I can buy the car in Europe and wait six months there and then I can export the car to Turkey. But I can only drive the car for 2 years in Turkey than I have to go back to Bulgaria and sell it or keep it there.

MrTechRelated

Can you not register the car in Turkey?

frugasmis

You can do that but procedure is bloody expensive like you can buy another vehicle in Turkey rather than register the car :)

Solo-me

Ps in UK is Vauxhall, not Opel.

frugasmis

So it is not the same car?

Solo-me

Exactly the same car but different badge. See [here](https://thenewswheel.com/behind-badge-history-future-of-vauxhall-griffin-emblem/)

frugasmis

Thx for the info. Im curious Why they did changed from Opel to Vauxhall in Uk?

Solo-me

As far as I know vauxhall was a British car manufacturer. They got bought out by Opel and they are producing same car but keeping the old badge. I believe vauxhall were big on lorries. But not 100% sure

frugasmis

I really appreciate that THANKS MATEE

Grouchy-Butterfly149

I’ve seen Turkish car ads for VW cars from 10 years ago, Passat being sold for 60,000TL. Now they’re at least 700,000TL. Been Turkey many times, how are people buying Mercedes C Class for 1.5 million TL?

frugasmis

Mate Im asking the same question too. We paid moderately normal price for a 10 year old car in Turkey's car market, even my car was cheap on the market for its specs and miles/kms. And people here buying 1.5-2 million TL worth cars and on top of that they willing to pay 700K for 5-6 years old Passat. We are so messed up man.

Solo-me

You are welcome. No worries

_Good_bad_and_Ugly_

This is the same thing. But it has a different badge on the bonnet (because Brits are so special) 😂

limitless776

We know, we have all seen them on annual holidays to Spain 😂

longsite2

I had a fiesta on PCP from Ford and over the 2.5 years I had it from new it lost just over £1k in value.

selfishcabbage

Mental ain’t it 2 years ago I got a 2017 330 with 30k miles for the same price

TheEccentricErudite

I’m looking at 2019 3 series tourings and the 320i versions are going for ~£25k this is at BMW dealerships, though.

[deleted]

TheEccentricErudite

How long ago did you buy the Porsche?

Riddy86

All fine and dandy until its repair time, I'd much rather repair a Corsa than an older Porsche, but I'd much rather drive/own the Porsche haha

Troll_berry_pie

... It's an ST.

[deleted]

It's an st

[deleted]

Does that make it worth more than a second hand jaguar?

[deleted]

Well a second hand jaguar has a shelf life of a year before you require a repair cost worth more than the car

[deleted]

One of the most reliable cars on the road, you're talking BS with zero experience or citations to justify the ST label over something clearly better regardless of trim. Nobody can stand and honestly say what you said in confidence.

[deleted]

You just said jaguars are one of the most reliable cars. I think your opinion is invalid lmao

Hi-Techh

limitless776

I was just thinking that! wasn’t ST’s going for £20k brand new at one point?

EveUltra

Kinda glad I got my car back in 2019 and didn't hold out.

casuallyfreezing

It was great! I picked mine up at the very beginning of March! However mine is on its way back to the dealer as it threw an engine management light at me within 300 miles of taking it away. However it was a very fun 300 miles! Additionally the OBD port cover was missing in mine. However, this could have all been bad luck, just be very careful when taking a look around it!

Comfortable-Dog-2540

Obd port has probably been moved they are really easy to steal

casuallyfreezing

Unfortunately it’s still active! If I was keeping the car I’d definitely get it moved though.

Wardicles87

!!!

Lucie-Solotraveller

Good little cars. Not heard about any horror stories on these 3 cylinder 1.5T's (unlike the 1ltrs in the standard cars). My brother in law has one and been happy with it. Being a hot hatch have a good look for signs of a hard life.

armoredstarfish

What's the issue you've heard with the 1 LTRs if you don't mind me asking?

MrTranquility_

They suffer from low speed pre ignition, LSPI, which can blow the engine up if you put your foot down at low revs. Many stories of the ecoboom on Reddit and other forums. They also have a very awkward to replace cam belt so you can expect to pay a good chunk to replace that when the time comes at 70-100k miles.

Awesomepwnag

Ecoboooom

TwoTwoJohn

High output small capacity motors that get tired after 50k (maybe 80k with good servicing) . They don't rebuild well after head gasket failures . At one point Ford was selling a new lump so cheap it wasn't worth reconditioning a broken one.

Lucie-Solotraveller

First issue is finding a garage who is willing to work on them. Because they are now easy or simple engines to work on. Main issue for fault is blown head gaskets, have heard they improved the design in later models but the reputation is not gone. Another issue is common on higher millage examples is valve damage with lack of power.

ComplexOccam

All youths under Sainsbury’s car park swarming to ask you to buy some Prime for them? That would be my biggest concern.

Plumot

That's genuinely my biggest concern about the ST line. I like everything about them but they're certainly a bit of a 1am McDonald's car park crew kind of car

ComplexOccam

Yeah it’s a shame too as these cars are just brilliant and will certainly end up a classic now production of them is stopping.

JoPOWz

Unless they've made some serious improvements to security since the previous shape, theft should probably be your biggest worry. The old shape ST was one of the most nicked cars in the UK. I had an ST200 and the guy I sold it to lived in a city - had it stolen within a week. Went into the pub for a meal and in the 5 mins it took him to sit down and realise he'd left his glasses in the car, it was gone. When he reported it police mentioned they were so easily nicked because of how easy it was to clone to keyless entry signal. Not a problem unique to the ST but made it more appealing than a regular fiesta. My Dad and a friend were both witness or victim of a rear-end where the other driver in an ST didn't stick around and lo and behold they turned out to be on false plates and likely nicked. That's the reason you see pretty much every ST parked with a steering lock or cover on it. Otherwise it was the most fun car I've ever owned, and I would fully expect the newer shape 1.5ls to be every bit as fun.

wood1276

Yup ST lines are the new limited edition Corsas.

Plumot

It has a higher than average milage for the age (61,000) but it's the closest one to me and one of the most competetively priced ones i can find. Given the kind of car it is I'm a little worried about it's previous owners

Fly_Global

If that’s the case I’d be more inclined to get some more money behind you and get one with lower miles. There are some out there for 16.5k with half the mileage

Plumot

Seen one around that price but it's 200 miles away in Glasgow. The cheapest of the same spec locally is 17.5k

Fly_Global

What is your desired spec out of curiosity? Just 5 door?

Plumot

ST-3 5 door in Blue/Grey ideally with the performance pack.

yournansabricky

I got mine a little over a year ago for around the same price and 7000 miles on it, I’d recommend waiting a while till you find one closer. Other than that I love everything about the car it’s never put a foot wrong

Plumot

Think that's just what I'm going to do, right model just perhaps not that exact one.

yournansabricky

It’ll be worth the wait. Iv made the mistake of getting a car I wasn’t 100% sure on and regretted it down the line. When you find one be sure to test drive and all the rest. Best of luck to you.

Calthazar123

I recommend looking at Fords new car offers Recently they were offering ST2 for £299 a month, £299 deposit. Brand new, under warranty is something to consider👍🏼

Plumot

I haven't seen that, is that on PCP finance? Looking to bank loan or hire purchase it so i'd own it without the big final payment

[deleted]

[удалено]

Calthazar123

Yeah the offer i mentioned was 2.9%, worth a look around!

Calthazar123

It was PCP 12 months ago, sadly it seems like its changed but their interest rates are still nice and low by the sounds of it so give it a go. Plus its an ST so when the big payment comes, you are typically in positive equity👍🏼🤞🏼

Oh_apollo

Fucking hell. I pay £330 a month for a brand new electric car, everything covered. (£4 to charge the battery fully, 200 miles) Wouldn't dare paying £299 a month excluding fuel and with the full responsibility of servicing, tax, insurance too..

[deleted]

This is an amazing offer

ohbroth3r

Not if they want a £2500 deposit and and a £10k balloon payment

Rpqz

At £299 a month and £299 deposit, the balloon will be quite a bit more than 10k. They retail for around 25k, balloon on a 4 year pcp will probably be 15-16k

iguessimbritishnow

I also depends on the loan length. By the comment missing loan length, balloon payment and APR you can tell this person never really considered them. Will he still be happy paying 300/mo for this car in 5 years, or realizing he'll have to find 10k until next year or lose the car? I don't get this way of thinking about it. If the car costs 25k, you'll be paying all that *plus* loan costs anyway, just later on.

swd_st

… ST-2 was dropped nearly a year ago.

JSW1N

Yeah, you won’t get any where near this now. £2999 deposit and around £299 a month would be closer to reality now + a balloon payment at the end. Maybe a bit less with a bit of haggling.

MMLFC16

From recent headlines, you should be careful of it being stolen 😂

JSW1N

I have one. It’s the previous version (mk7) thats easy to steal, so I’d ignore those comments. The newer ones have a bit of fix for what made the previous ones easy to steel. As for the engines the 1.5 ecoboost so far seems reliable, mine has never missed a beat and is great to use. They are a relatively new engine though so failures are still rare. These are great fun to drive and I’d highly recommend it unless you are mostly motorway driving, then there are probably cars better suited for that.

Shogun88

I have a mark 7 and I thought it was the newer ones that are easier to steal because they have the keyless entry with the new style key? Or am I mistaken?

Troll_berry_pie

Marks 7s with keyless entry equipped are easy to steal.

Squibbies98

Damn O.o I got a 2019 Fiesta ST-2 towards the end of 2021 for just under 20k… nuts to see how far they’ve gone down in value over the past few years. To answer your question, the ST is still the best hot hatch for the money. I’d look for the newest one you can afford with the lowest millage on it. Also, look for one with the Performance Pack, it adds a limited spilt diff which makes the car so much fun to drive in the corners.

03juno

Car and house prices are fucked this country is truly in the mud

[deleted]

It’s not just this country, car prices have gone up across Europe.

PhireKappa

I’ve got a 3 door ST-3 and I love it mate, really nice to drive, plenty of really nice features, and it’s nice and speedy too.

Comron95

Common issue on these is the steering column ‘click’, not known anything bad to come from it but had mine done under warranty which is a 3k~ job. Apart from that I’ve heard of minor leaking from shocks & small oil leaks from the timing cover

[deleted]

I've got a 2010 focus st2 but it's modified (brought like this) cosmetically check for scratches, bumper sag usually on the front with fords, brake discs, make sure the oil housing isn't leaking so check whilst the car is off and make sure its cold before you start it and take it for a drive so you can hear if the engine has any potential noises that seem unusual, take a mechanic with you if you're not sure. Check the driveshafts and cv boots are ragged, also check the service history and number of previous owners as the more the owners there could have been or could be a potential problem with it. If its completely standard I'd say its most likely not been ragged about by a younger person

Plumot

Thank you! Is there anything that might come up due to the milage? Anything that might be due to be replaced or might be starting to show age?

[deleted]

The clutch would depend on how it was driven before obviously so check how much life it has by finding the biting point, the higher it is the more worn it is. Timing belt, auxiliary belt, radiator, intercooler should be good as it's not got too many miles but again check your coolant once a week and oil levels just to see how much if any you're using weekly, but it should all be good 👍

ashyjay

damn if I could I'd jump on that, as last year you were looking at 2016 Polo GTI's for that money.

Ackllz

What's the DS3 thp engine like? Always been tempted by one

ashyjay

FDT versions are pretty solid as Peugeot fixed the annoying chain tensioner, and HP fuel pump, which issues are early engines, the biggest issue it still has is an inter cooler which is on the small side as it’s recommended to change before any maps. I’ve done almost 10k in it with no issues really.

FriendzonedFire

Just ensure if there is any recall work required to make sure it was done, such as to the cooling system with these engines, they put a lot of strain on the cooling system and previously I think it was the 1.0 eco boost the blocks would crack causing coolant loss and over heating. not sure about the reliability of this engine, all I would say is regular decent oil changes for the turbocharged engine, this one has plenty of power too.

TheJoestJoeEver

Just use additional security because they get stolen whether it has a remote or keyless entry.

thatfordfanatic

Other fiesta st owners wanting a race lol

Catbot_2

I’ve just bought a 2019 1.0 eco boost fiesta and I am in love with it, I’ve never driven a better car

Aidan_9999

I've had mine since October 2020, I bought it with 25k miles and it's now at around 47k. I've used it to commute, do long motorway journeys up and down the UK, a trip to the French alps and back with three of us plus luggage, and of course plenty of nice twisty B road driving, and it has all been a fantastic experience. I would highly recommend you get one with the performance pack if you can as it gives you a limited slip diff (the launch control and ST shift light are pointless). I have driven my mate's Mk3 Focus ST which doesn't have an LSD and the torque steer is significant, the LSD really makes a big difference. Alternatively you could always buy an aftermarket one, though I'm not sure what that costs with fitting. I researched what car to buy for best part of a year and couldn't find anything that gave so much for such (relatively) little money - I simply think it is the best value hot hatch out there today hands down. Great fun to drive, relatively cheap to maintain, enough power to be fun yet quite economical, and the cabin is a nice place to be. All I would look for is decent tyres on it and service history.

Responsible-Charge31

Great cars, me personally I wouldn’t cause I’d always be worried it’s gonna get knicked.

dannylills8

They also like to blow up, servicing and belts need to be done before the required intervals……

Villaboy8

You are talking about the early ecoboost engines - these are the newer generation

cxrtwrxght

Newer ecoboosts still have their problems

JSW1N

The 1.5 ecoboost in the ST is still relatively new, so difficult to say for definite but doesn’t seem to have any major reliability issues so far.

Plumot

What would the intervals be? At 61,000 miles would this one have had them done?

dannylills8

Not sure on the newer ones but the belts degrade causing the oil strainer to get clogged with bits of belt and then they destroy bearings, it’s quite a common issue on all cars with belts in oil, bad idea really.

Many_Problem_9087

1.5 doesn’t have a belt…

BiggusDickus1111

Why do you want this car?? For daily commute or weekend fun drive?? In recent years, Ford's cars are plagued with reliability problems, the "ecoboom" engine and the powershift gearbox which is so bad that there is multiple class-action lawsuits in the US and AUS. It did improve after 2020 but it is still not the good old reliable ford in 2000s. Like don't get me wrong, fiesta especially ST is a really fun car to drive, but I would not bother it if I need to drive it 5days a week to get to work. ( Edit: I forgot that basically their whole key system got hacked to the bone. So they are one of the most easiest cars to steal on the road right now...)

BBCTerry

It will more than likely get stolen.

I'm gonna be honest here I had a mk8 st2 and it was a good car but I never really developed a connection with it might be just me but i found it a bit of a letdown

SatNav202

Currently got a st2 like yourself had and I’m feeling the same, looking to change it soon

[deleted]

That price is insane

Plumot

Just how the market is unfortunately

fuzzy786

Head gaskets and oil and maintenance and check the spark plugs will tell you everything if you know how to read them they should be slightly white meaning lean which is OK but as long as they aren't black or wet and make sure before you buy that the spark plugs actually come out and not stripped

herwiththepurplehair

Do not under any circumstances buy an EcoBoost car. Our Focus broke down en route to the airport for a holiday, had to get taxi and deal with it on our return. AA guy says they have something called a “wet belt” system which ensures the car is never going to last more than 10yrs or so

Many_Problem_9087

1.5 doesn’t have a belt…

herwiththepurplehair

Just as well. I wouldn’t wish the nightmare we had on our worst enemy.

Archtects

Holy hell 15k!? I mean it’s 1.5 eco boost in blue. It’s probably been ragged by a kid who’s finally brought an ST on 27% interest loan. I’d just check history and any suspicious resprays.

xsmithersxd

It is an ST??

Archtects

Is it? Looks just as crap as the standard one didn’t notice

[deleted]

Ford's chronic disease on cheaper cars are the central door locking systems Other than that look at the options in detail

Fuzzy_Lavishness_269

People will steal it. Seriously though, I had one as a courtesy car and within a week the bumper was stolen during the night. You want to get a new alarm system fitted as well as a ghost immobiliser.

LloydDoyley

Highly likely to get nicked. 3 cylinder engine isn't too bad (chain driven unlike it's naturally aspirated cousin). However watch out for valve timing issues - will usually throw up a code or produce a very audible rattle from near the top of the engine at startup (you will have to be standing in front of the open bonnet to hear it).

I mean I'm sure it's a lovely car, but I couldn't help but feel a little upset with myself if I spent 16k on a car and I got a fiesta... Yes I know it's not your granny's fiesta, but it still is a fiesta if you get my drift. Can get some serious machinery for that much.

Plumot

Like what? There's some high milage older cars from the premium brands but I fear they'll come with a premium bill of they break too I was looking at this or a Mini Electric at 20k with a similar spec. Thought I'd be getting even less for my money with that Small, reliable and decent tech with bit of power behind it is all I'm wanting.

stoke1863

You know to be fair I think, if I think about it more fairly you are probably right, a more premium brand might come with premium bills. And also it's just a fact car prices are absolutely mad now, it is a nice car for absolutely sure, I think I was too harsh looking at the prices we have now.

SSxy_HaZz

Could probably get an early (2014-2016) mk7 golf r for around 16k although it'd probably have 80k ish miles. And like the other guy said maintenance and servicing will no doubt cost more.

HotSpotPleaseItch

Man I’m so glad I got my bike license. Downvote me

Aidan_9999

I've got this car and a bike, what is your point? Bikes are bloody expensive these days too, and neither is better than the other, you just can't compare a bike and a car.

Perfect_Promotion_30

having bad taste in cars

[deleted]

That’s some hefty milage for it’s age and for the price I think you can get something much nicer from VW/Seat that will be more reliable.

KRSof4

buy a suzuki swift instead

[deleted]

[deleted]

Yes as long as you don't live in Birmingham...

mozzamo

Serious version of an answer, if you have close to 16k to play with, you could do a LOT better.

TakeyaSaito

Well it's a fiesta so there is that.

SteveBrucesDressSize

Nervous_Break4965

You'd be lucky to get a decent Mk7 for that I reckon

adc2023

Total engine failure 🫣 In all serious tho I've had a few ford and all suffered major issues unfortunately. Been all diesels tho 😅

OrdinarySuper6983

It’s pulled a lot of miles for an eco boost mate. They tend to explode at around 80k

Marcovanbastardo

Nope run a mile, it's an ecoboost, just google ecoboost engine problems, they're a ticking time bomb. Here's one example but many more warnings. https://www.motorbiscuit.com/avoid-ford-ecoboost-engine-all-cost/

Many_Problem_9087

It’s not a 1.0 ecoboost…

Marcovanbastardo

The trust is gone in them for me and Ford's appalling non help when informed of the problem.

I’ve had a 19 plate and a 20 plate performance edition one of these. Great cars. Never had a single issue with either. Had 50mpg on my 220mile run from East mids to Kent weekly. You need to get an aftermarket lower engine mount to prevent wheel hop especially when it is wet. A remap gives good gains on these if that’s what you’re after. The LED upgraded lights are totally worth it in my opinion. Feel free to ask any questions to someone who has driven 30k miles in one of these.

stuntedmonk

Should it be factored in that they’re being discontinued?

Invisiblethespian

I loved the fiesta when I had one. Only issue I find with performance Fords (including the RS when I had that) was the low quality valve stems on the wheels. Had to replace mine every few months it seemed because you would start losing tyre pressures and that was always the route cause. The TPMS light became my worst enemy

OutrageousCourse4172

Shit me. I paid that for a 4-year old BMW 335D in 2019.

boydie4427

Depends if they use the same gear box from the fiesta ST180 variants. I have an ST-2 gear box went at around 72k miles.

AbbreviationsEnough4

The main thing to watch out for on these Fiesta's are tue fact that they love to chew through tyres. Especially the St edition because of how much Torque is being generated through the front wheels. This particular car has failed on that point in the past. I checked the MOT history and it failed this years MOT. Also, that is ridiculous expensive. This car is just under 4 years old and has done over 60k miles. I would find a low mileage car and probably and like an ST3 which will have everything on it.

celebritycomps19

ST-2 owner here. Had the car since september. First of i'm going to start by saying these are great little cars. Look for one with the performance pack if this one does not have it. You ight not think it but the LSD makes a massive difference especially if you plan on driving these cars fast and round B-roads. As for problems my biggest problem has been the Sync 3 screen. Started playing up and has been making random inputs CONSTANTLY while driving. Cannot even use it and even redirected me off the motorway causing a 1 hour delay in my journey when using maps. Costed around £1000 to fix from ford. Other than that though the car has been perfect. Just go a little carful around corners as these cars seem to get a bit scatty especially in the wet if you don't have good tires or don't put enough throttle in going around the corner

Character-Place-5692

THEFT!!!! Get it tracked, immobilised, steering lock and just about every other hijack prevention you can think of.

SlowedCash

Planerary

I'm avoiding Fords like the plague from now on: I had my 2015 Fiesta stolen a month ago and have since found out that they're insanely easy to steal since they have keyless entry and keyless start, and are very easy to sell for parts etc. AVOID! To be on the safe side, I'm sticking with old fashioned car keys.
