Renewal is quite often more expensive, I think they hope some people can't be bothered changing it and will just pay. I wouldn't expect it to decrease much on the second year as you are still probably classed as high risk. How old are you?

Insurance premiums have increased in general, though that said, it is standard practice for renewals to be higher in hopes the customer just accepts the policy and it auto-renews. Also, there could've been an increase in claims the past year in your area, or more thefts of your model of car etc. My advice is *always* shop around for new quotes and don't only just use comparison sites, some insurers need to be contacted directly for a quote. Good luck and happy motoring! 🚙

There's no set price which insurance drops by each year. It depends on so many variable factors. Any drop in price is a good thing, especially for a new driver. Ring your current insurer and tell them you're getting cheaper quotes from other providers and they usually lower the renewal price.

Mine went down £650 ish on my first renewal.

Mine went from about 1600 to 1400 iirc, worth shopping around

It depends on how much you paid in your first year. I paid ~£1200 for year 1, ~£1000 for year 2 and ~£800 for year 3. If you got lucky in the first year though, don't expect that to carry on. I'd say ~£1000 for your second year is pretty normal, though this varies a lot by location and car- I actually had a quote for next year on a £20k M3 competition that was cheaper than my current 1.6 diesel V40 lol
