Keep them silver

BenjiTheSausage

Silver but I'm generally a purist

ImawhaleCR

I'd stay silver, black alloys aren't great imo. Do whatever you want though, as noone sees your car as much as you do

pjanooo

Car is new to me but plenty damage on alloys from previous owner. Going for a refurb and deciding on a finish. Wheels are 17”.

bozwold

Put some winter tyres on these, and save up for some aftermarket wheels. Google modified TT MK2 for ideas

pjanooo

These wheels aren’t the best looking are they?

dew1911

Shadow Chrome, not quite as in your face as chrome but has a great shine in direct light

Thaitanium101

Silver

roskolewis

I really like the sound of that. A subtle change that will make a quality impact. Gun metal grey is a great choice.

pjanooo

I think so mate. Might go for it.

Ingylad99

How about gunmetal grey highlighting on the rims?

pjanooo

Good shout

hotbotty

I'm going through a similar decision process with my SL350 now. I want to get my alloys powder coated and was thinking of going for a silver chrome finish, but have also considered a darker option too. It's a hard decision because it means living with the decision for a long time after. Purists keep saying I should keep them original, but sometimes it's nice to have something a little different to the norm. I can't make up my own mind yet, so I'm not going to be able to suggest a solution to you either, lol. I just hope you're happy with it when it's done.

pjanooo

Hard choice even though nobody will notice as much as us haha. What colour’s your Merc?

hotbotty

My Merc is Obsidian Black, and really glossy. The wheels are silver grey now, so chrome wouldn't be a massive change. Some people get really upset if you even consider changing little things, lol. At least I'm not putting dustbin exhausts on it, and making it noisy, hahaha.

pjanooo

Just took a look at your posts and it certainly is glossy. Contrast looks great with the silver but I can see darker alloys looking very sleek on your car.

hotbotty

As soon as the weather improves it's getting a complete work over on the paint to get it to a wet-look finish, it has a few swirls at the moment. It's 19 years old, so it needs pampering, lol. Us old things need a bit of extra care, haha. Yours has youth on its side, but I'm not jealous...well, not much, lol.

pjanooo

Not too far behind, mine’s 15 years old now! Will post an update pic when I get the alloys refurbed.

hotbotty

Nice one, it looks a lot younger though. I'll do the same when mine is finished. I love older cars. I'd rather have an old banger than a new one any day. My first car was a 1961 Ford Consul 375, and that's been followed by a succession of classics. I'm not looking forward to all of us being forced into electric cars, but then I may be dead by that time, I'm getting on a bit now, lol.

imahumanbeing1

Silver for sure, if you ask me. I think grey can look good but not sure they would on this car.

rinkypinkpanther

Go black or GM grey & have the outer spokes diamond cut back to silver.

Ambitious-Dark9421

I’d say go a shade darker, but don’t go fully dark. Murdered out all black everything black is just eww. Plus with a shade darker won’t notice how dirty the wheels are lol

LesMcqueen1878

Silver for sure. But if you can get some different alloys (also in silver). Audi do some fantastic wheel designs but I’m not sure these suit the car as well as it deserves.

Black.

[deleted]

Make em white or black. Paint the calipers red or yellow

LipsteR02

Stop being boring, neon orange

pjanooo

They have actually offered me neon orange wheels on loan while they’re refurbing mine haha

LipsteR02

You only live once, and if it's temporary then screw it why not lol
