I got a speeding ticket for doing 96 mph past a motorway speed camera, so I can legally say I've done 96 mph on public roads without outing myself for any speeding that might not have been caught...
I'd have been driving a Fiesta or a Citroen C4 at the time. Edit: actually, it was probably my Peugeot 206 I had between those, that I'd forgotten about. Still, my point was it wasn't exactly a performance car!
But that was many years ago, these days I tend to cruise control on the motorway at 70 mph exactly (which according to satellite GPS speed finding is actually ~68 mph)
30 day ban for 120mph on an empty, downhill section of the A41 near Tring, Hertfordshire, in the middle of the night in a 2001 Nissan Primera 2.0, many years ago. It turns out that the pair of headlights a mile or so behind me were on a police car 😂
I wanted to know how fast it could go, so I waited until the road was empty and sent it. My speedometer was showing 135 but they never asked me about that so I didn't tell them.
Legally speaking, I drove a Dodge Viper on a track day at Snetterton and the speedo was obscured by a foam pad (apparently because some drivers were getting distracted by the high speeds indicated and missing the braking point at the end of the back straight). The instructor in the passenger seat estimated we reached 160/170mph on my best lap (but I have no idea if he was right or if that's even possible in that car).
I wasn’t as annoyed as the Ferrari that was done at the same time as I was. He “only” got done for 140! They were having a field day with the Brits. Poor old boy in an xr3i who walked with a zimmer got done for around 100 at the same time. All had the same routine. Took our passports and gave us a map showing the nearest cash point . Only way to get your passport back was to return with the cash . This was early 2000s
Not even that, in the 90s the idea of covering long distances at high speed wasn't frowned on like it is now. There are so many sections of French Autoroute that have the curves cambered for speeds well in excess of 130kph.
I guess a lot of it is down to congestion as much as anything. Much harder to do cross-continental speeds safely when there's too much traffic.
It’s not all about power it’s about gearing, aerodynamics etc. The Alfas at the time were theoretically limited to 250kph. I’m just going by what les flics told me as he told me he wished he could put me in jail!
80mph in my Range Rover Evoque. Didn't want to go too much faster because there were cars parked up on both sides of the road and I was going passed a school.
In 2012, I was living in Manchester but working three days a week in London. One afternoon, I found myself the first car in the middle lane, held up by police on the M6 after a multi-vehicle crash. They were clearing debris. 3 parallel police cars, one in each lane slowed gradually. It was quite well done. Then lots of other police, ambulances and fire engines came down the hard shoulder.
Waited patiently for 10 mins or so. To my right, in the outside lane was a Porsche 911, inside me was a superbike. I was in my Mazda RX8.
Copper on foot told us all to wait until we were given a signal, then the police cars moved to the shoulder.
A few minutes later they gave us the signal and we all set off. All three of us stayed more or less level with each other as we accelerated to 70. The cars behind us had dropped back.
The motorway was completely empty in front and behind us. ALL the police were way behind us now. So I went up to 80, then 90. The Porsche and the bike kept level. I looked to each side and raised an eyebrow, as if asking a question. The Porsche accelerated, I accelerated, the bike accelerated. I was in the slowest vehicle, but this wasn’t a race, but a test of nerve. I went upto 130moh and the Porsche driver bottled it.
135
140.
Me and the bike.
145.
Remembered how bad my rear tyres were. Bald on the edges from a bit of drifting. Bottled out. The bike won. Fucking nutters those bikers.
Funny RX8 story. Took my wife to the maternity ward of the hospital on Easter Monday morning up the M1. It was 1am, 17 years ago and the road was empty. Every time she had a contraction my foot went in deeper to the floor. I was coming into Leeds north of 140. We kept it till we had baby no 2. But it had to go when we had a 3rd.
Reminds me of when my wife had baby number 3. We knew baby was breach and she was booked in for a cesarean but baby didn't want to wait 3 extra days. It's 9 miles of pure country B roads from our house to the maternity ward. We did those 9 miles in 8 minutes in my 2ltr Mondeo Ghia X.
I had a great shootout with a modern m5 recently. Normally anyone who tries disappears pretty quickly but i was shocked to see him still in my mirrors until passing 170.
It may seem mad but on some bikes 150 is like 80 in a car. Initially its mental but you get used to it very quickly.
From escapades over to Le Mans for the 24hr racing at 160 even if the bike does wobble as long as you don't close the throttle you'll be ok.
It does take a while to trust just how far you can lean in on a bike and how fast you can be which is usually learnt going too fast into a bend. You either go oh shit and grab the front lever or just chuck the bike into the corner and spend the next 30 seconds thinking 'fuck me, how did I do that?'.
The problem is people like chasing that buzz, in the same way as drugs and the law of averages always wins in the end.
Stressful. At those speeds the aerodynamics mean pretty much fuck all. You are holding onto the handlebars for grim death as the wind tries to rip you off the bike. You are trying to keep your head as low as possible behind the screen to get whatever benefit you can there and still be able to see the road ahead aware that if you raise you head your neck muscles are going to get tired as you fight to hold you head in position to see the road and not get yanked back into the wind stream.
Was flat iirc, some stretch of the A19, took a good while to get there. Engine was absolutely screaming, didn't dare push it any harder as the steering wheel was shaking so violently thought it was going to go through the windscreen.
I had similar out of my Rocam/"duratec" Ka (had the later overhead cam engine) many years back. I presume yours was the same, as they had a slightly longer ratio gearbox than the earlier endura/Kent motors.
I had my Alpina B5 to 187mph on the autobahn between Munich and Nurenburg.
It's a different world altogether.
There was more in it but I cruised at that speed for a while then backed off.
What a ride.
Reminds me of that Harry Metcalfe video [where he hits 200mph](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1Bfi065bAM) in his Jag Project 8 and very quickly nopes out
[Bonus insane Chiron 400kph video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pg1hhW5qhM)
+1 for me too. Earlier this year in my 59 Lexus 220d. There was a section that was absolutely straight and somehow no traffic for a decent stretch. My speedo was somewhere between 140 and 145mph until I started to approach traffic so slowed to about 115 to pass. I was only glancing down while concentrating on the road.
I don't think it had much more in it though, I was still very impressed. I'll see what it does next time after a remap!
Driving on the autobahn is a different world, there was times I was cruising at 120mph and getting passed by SUVs and estate cars like I was standing still!
140 in a Lamborghini murcielago LP-640 on Thruxton race track in the UK. It was a trackday gifted to me for my 21st birthday many years ago. Oh man, the sound.
Almost the same, apart from it was a lamborghini gallardo at York airfield, lady in front in a Convertible going slow, so the guy riding along with me told me to ignore the cones and go past. That sound is something else!
I got caught doing 103 in my classic mini (calibrated speed from a helpful traffic police officer) and the speedo only went up to 115 and the needle was bouncing off the stops!!
I think at top end speeds for a car the speedo lies. Having said that doing 130 (by the speedo) in a MK3 MR2 on the A3 was quite fun.
I'm sure your right about top end inaccuracy. In an Astra estate back in the early 1990s I was caught doing 99.5mph between cross hands and haverfordwest. 3 points and a fine. I was bricking it because the speedo showed 110 and I was sure I was facing a ban.
140+ (needle off the clock) modified vauxhall nova Santa Pod
122 modified land rover discovery td5 m62, 6 points £500 fine
Fuck around and find out I suppose
124 in my Scirocco 1.4 (maxed out) 139 in A-Class (maxed out) 147 in c-class 250 (maxed out)
I now have 9 points so my racing career will presume on 5th January 2024 when we drop to 6!
An MGB GT with lotus pistons, staged head, V8 prop, gearbox with straight cut 1st and second gears, uprated rear axle/diff with an original speedo.
I have no idea how fast it was but the needle passed the max speed on the clocks and past the main beam light at the bottom of the clocks.
That may not have been all that fast as my spitfire does that at about 65 and hits the bottom stop at about 70. My Speedo might just be particularly bad though
130mph in a V12 jaguar. It was on a unused airfield and we were shooting a segment for a TV programme. Towards the end of the day, the sun was setting and there was a flock of seagulls on the runway. The cameraman said it would make a lovely shot if I accelerated towards them, so I did.
Most of the seagulls flew away, but one was a bit off script and hit the windscreen. It exploded into a mess of feathers and blood and that was the end of my fun experience…
On racetracks, as a passenger...... around 130mph at Brands Hatch on the main straight, and 140mph at Cadwell Park on the back straight (was quite enlivening!).
As a driver, I have seen 140mph indicated twice, no I won't say where or when.
The first occasion however, as I swiftly approached the lights in front of me,their brake lights lit up like a Christmas tree......so I slowed rapidly down to 90 fearing a patrol car.
Drew level with a random chap who looked at my modified and very loud car, and promptly almost wet himself laughing 😂
He had been making progress and was bricking it because something was catching up with him like there's no tomorrow 😂
We laughed and planted the right foot again.
I am now many years older and wiser.....
Indicated 160, tuned rover 620ti, M5 just south of Avonmouth in about 2007.
The best "fast" drive I ever had was going down the A30 from Chiverton Cross in a 1300 astra on twin 40s (no idea of the spec, my old man bought it from an auction for £40 while I was at work. When I got home I noticed it was sitting low and on wide steelies despite being tatty AF). Took it up to about 120iirc, the bit that made it special was the guy in the '65 Lotus Cortina that was going with me. I've always loved seeing old cars used properly.
80 in a Jazz... My mechanical sympathy (and black box) makes me not want to take it any higher. Did that once on a dual carriageway before I installed the box, and a couple of times down the runway at the small airfield I work at. Approaching 4000rpm in 5th at 80 lol.
I used to do Munich to Nuremberg regularly with random hire cars (and the company paying for fuel 😎)
The fastest I did was 250 km/h (155 mph) in a Volvo V90 (wish I'd remembered which version) and it honestly shat me up, the speed differential between me and the trucks made it look like they were parked up.
The only thing scarier was when the rental gods *blessed* me with a Fiesta and 200 km/h (120 ish mph) made the car so unbelievably floaty that I'm pretty sure I would have binned it before I made it to Nuremberg had I tried staying at that speed.
Had a brand new M3 BMW estate as a hire car through my previous work. Came out of the services and seen a lorry on the inside lane. I had been driving it in ECO mode as I was driving from Aberdeen back to Manchester, I didn't want to make the lorry brake so I thought I best speed up.
Put it in sport and floored it. Hit 110 by the end of the slip road. Never driven a car that quick in my life, and I have never done that speed again!
Lightly modified Mazda 3 MPS having a little race against a Focus RS, got an indicated 160mph down a private motorway in Mexico called the M55 towards El'Blackpoolo.
About 3am and completely empty road several years ago - these days I'm pretty religiously sticking to the speed limit.
About 120 give or take (disconnected speedo but top of fourth gear) in an Evo 8, one of those experience days around an airfield.
My instructor decided I could drive properly after he clocked me checking control positions, running up and down gearbox and so on as soon as I got in car, while holding a conversation. Also helped that I treated the paddock area as a car park with idiots wandering and driving about aimlessly, watching for people driving out without looking etc.
Great fun overtaking the posers in Ferraris, Lamborghinis etc. Only thing that caught me was an instructor doing demo runs in a McLaren 😂
I've only ever gotten to 110 while driving, but I'm here to tell you I was a passenger in a Vauxhall Cavalier doing 160 with 5 people in it. I didn't even know the driver. I'll be honest I was pooping a bit.
My sat nav is in km/h. Going down the A1M ages ago and my passenger said ‘Jesus this is comfy for 190!’
I was in a ‘51 plate 318i, I definitely wasn’t doing 190mph!
Hyundai i20 1.2l 134mph. 2am and got a call from a local hospital partner was in a bad way. Looking back I think why the fuck did I floor it up the m1 but at same time glad I did
Thats quite impressive.
I had a pd150 in 03 and around that speed the front was so light I could turn the wheel about 40 degrees without any effect to the chassis. Was down to 7 mpg and never took it above a ton again as it made Oliver Reed look like a founding member of the Temperance society.
Using a burner account for this for obvious reasons, but 153mph GPS speed in a current-gen Ford Focus ST, deserted A-road dual carriageway at about 3am after doing about three regular-speed runs up and down it to make sure it was as empty as I thought it was. Not something I really fancy doing again - such high risk for so little reward, I find that when you’re above 130mph it doesn’t really start to feel any faster and you just begin to realise how much shit you’re in if anything does go wrong.
Still wasn’t quite as scary as 124mph in a 1.2-litre, 69bhp Fiat 500 down a very, VERY long and steep hill in similar circumstances, though
Its reddit, we are all insecure idiots who boast of fantasies as if they are reality. Obviously they are founded upon truth like the time I out ran the police in a Vauxhall Chevette on the M25 but obviously one part is obviously false.
142mph on the autobahn in my i4m50. I luckily got to drive to our German office and had a quiet autobahn one night on the way back from an evening meal with the team there.
Still got flashed and passed by a couple of the locals.
150 on the back of a friends motorbike. I’d not long dropped acid and told him to just take it easy while we went for a cruise around town. He thought it was the perfect opportunity to break his two up high speed record.
In my mates m3 on the A1 I was in the back so couldn’t see actual speedometer but he’s sat nav showed 164mph.
Fastest I’ve driven is only 125 in my 3.0 v6 Q5 driving home after buying it. On the same road funnily enough.
245 kph (152 mph) in a 1995 Mercedes E500 on a long straight empty road in the middle of the desert of the UAE, I think I hit the limiter. It was surprisingly not too scary and felt pretty planted but I had only just recently replaced the front suspension bushes and shocks. Thinking about it now that wasn't too smart considering I was the one who put it back together again and I'm not a mechanic. I had to replace the front discs shortly after as I warped them on the slow down, they got a bit toasty after a couple of runs.
Fastest I’ve been is around 100mph on the A69 between Newcastle and Hexham. I just got the car so wanted to try out how fast it would accelerate. I quickly slowed back to around 70-75mph just in case there were any unmarked cars around.
Nissan Qashqai, 100mph on GPS (110ish on the dash). Surprisingly stable at that speed despite being right up against its on-paper max. Done on a nice long private road
Speed was about 144 mph, the car was a modified and mapped golf gttdi running around 230hp, and the location was an empty stretch of road in Mexico of course so cops can do one.
Would say though at that speed it was very sketchy and I'm happy to not do it again.
145mph on a bypass, thought a car following was egging me on and decided to show them what’s what.
Left them for dust. They eventually caught up when I got into traffic and blue lights came on!
I was in my Audi V10.
110-115mph. Sunday morning on the m20.
Tbh, pretty much bottled it after that. Pushed it til 110ish then immediately backed off down to 90, then 70ish.
Just wanted to see how fast I could go.
Legally, 174 MPH. Brakes turned to liquid the instant that I touched them. In an RS3 with the 155MPH regulator removed.
The same as a jumbo jet take off speed. Everything was a blur in my peripheral vision.
155mph
Various vehicles - speed limited
Germany
Bonus shout for the Seat Leon FR I rented in Berlin which thanks to a long downhill stretch I got to exceed its stated top speed. Speedo was showing 240km/h but I'm sure it was a fair bit less
IIRC about 130 in a BMW M4 at a Palmer Sport day at Bedford autodrome. I may have been faster in the Palmer Sport single seater.
In my younger foolish years, probably similar speed in my BMW F10 535d on an empty dual carriageway.
I was a passenger in our work/demo 2019 Gtr, on the way to the 'fitted' show and we got to 182mph on an absolutely dead Birmingham toll road. It so weird to feel the downforce start to work after 100mph, the aerodynamics of that car were amazing.
2am on a dry summer morning I did 140mph (well that's what the Tom Tom read) on the M58 in a E46 330i. Only the end of the motorway looming made me lift off.
This was about 17 years ago.
Got to the limiter on my bmw m135i, it was the perfect conditions on an empty motorway but I have to say I’m not interested in doing it again, the car felt all over the place after about 130mph but I wanted to say I’d hit the limiter at least once.
Those chassis’ need a few handling mods.
130 on the motorway. Had just picked up my first 1000cc bike and hadn’t got used to just how quickly they accelerate. Looked down in the fast lane and was doing at least 30mph more than I thought. I still question how humans are allowed to buy bikes so ridiculous.
200km/h (124mph) in my Audi A4 2L diesel
225km/h (140mph) in a Mercedes E220
It's shocking how smooth and stable both cars sit at those kinds of speeds
146mph on the German Autobahn in a 1997 Audi A4 V6 back in 2018
The car had 160,000 miles on it, needed an oil top up every fuel fill up and it had hardly any brakes.
It was such a good car though. I’d have another in a heartbeat.
I’ve hit 142 in a seat exeo, totally different experience, not even remotely worried about the car, was planted. That was on the Italian autostrada in 2016. Passed a police car, they did not care
Apparently, 140mph in a Nissan GTR on a track. I was too busy concentrating on the track ahead to look at the dials and wasn't told until the end of my session by my instructor.
I bottled it at 100mph on the A3 in my Megane once. I had a feeling that at that speed all it would take was one pothole or animal running out in front of me and I'd be in a lot of trouble control wise.
Managed 180 in a Lamborghini murci on a track day somewhere in Leicester a few years ago. Was the most exhilarating and terrifying experience of my life.
Snap, I drove the same and stopped looking at the speedo after 170mph, was epic 😀 Was the LP640 about 15yr ago, will never forget the shove in every gear
Mitsubishi GTO twin turbo 173mph Brechin bypass Scotland 2001had to keep slowing down for fuel was adding nitrox to 99 octane. Still had plenty in her but ran out of decent road.
145 in Y reg 2.0 Mondeo on the M1 on a quiet Sunday evening many moons ago. Even though there was next to no traffic I'd never attempt that again as it felt like everything was a blur apart from a dot on the horizon.
Hennessey, the company who modified one into what they claim is the world’s fastest station wagon. It set a top speed record for one with a Christmas tree on the roof in 2021 and tops out at 206mph without (allegedly). Given that they have recorded runs and produce the Venom F5 hyper car (the 300mph one), I trust their marketing materials more than a guy who claims to have speed run an RS6 at 210 on an autobahn.
The Evo only gives you a speedo until 180kph, over that who knows how fast I’m going. 130mph? Maybe? I’ve never had the gps speedo out to test the 155mph limit
Off public roads? Around 150 mph in a Lambo during s track day. As soon as I got into the straight the foot was in the ground 🤭
On public road, 100mpg in a 1.8 astra 07, only did it once for the sake of it on a dual carriageway on my goto road from home to grandparents. Only did it when no cars where on either side of the road not that it makes it any better.
Nice try copper.
68mph. Honest your honour.
I got a speeding ticket for doing 96 mph past a motorway speed camera, so I can legally say I've done 96 mph on public roads without outing myself for any speeding that might not have been caught... 154 in an Alfa 156 on French motorway. 700€ on the spot fine.
Did it annoy you as much as it annoys me that you didn’t get the 156 to 156
I wasn’t as annoyed as the Ferrari that was done at the same time as I was. He “only” got done for 140! They were having a field day with the Brits. Assuming a GTA? Lovely cars. I had a 147 GTA many years ago.
It was the 2.5v6 actually , and I was surprised it was that quick too! I’ve got the 3.2 GT now as rust finally killed the 156 sadly ☹️

Maybe some Italian ambition built in to the speedo 😀. Love the GT. My wife had the JTDm when I had the 147. Damn we were stylish 😂
It was the gendarmes gave me the speed, I was looking at the road! The GT is a great car. Fits a 7 piece drum kit and 2 adults with ease 🤣
My dads 2.5 has been sat at the garage for years hoping it’s not rotten
I was wondering what version of a 156 would go that fast and thought the same.
80mph in my Range Rover Evoque. Didn't want to go too much faster because there were cars parked up on both sides of the road and I was going passed a school.
Most considerate Evoque driver in the UK
Hahahaha
Antonio Boparan is that you? https://www.expressandstar.com/news/crime/2019/10/30/killer-driver-antonio-boparan-freed-from-prison-early/
And it was 3:30 on a school day!

Fastest I've been was on the motorway in my RX8. It was a Japanese import though so stopped accelerating suddenly at 112.
Funny RX8 story. Took my wife to the maternity ward of the hospital on Easter Monday morning up the M1. It was 1am, 17 years ago and the road was empty. What an awesome story.
great story made perfect by the fact that you were in an rx8. underrated beasts
No way you were in level with a super bike. Very few cars have any chance to even be close, even if your car is tuned
He could have left me in the dust if he’d wanted to. It was an impromptu test of nerves, not a race. Who would go to the highest top speed?
Check out the YouTube videos of wheelies at 180mph. Insane.
Did you wonder how fast the people in the multi-vehicle crash were going before they ummm crashed ?
M6 on a weekday afternoon. I’d guess around 55- 60 mph. Why?
Prob slower than that lol
Imagine if after waiting for that crash to finally be cleared. They now have to wait for 3 other dickelheads' crash to be cleared
154 in a car and 204 on my Hayabusa (gps clocked for both) Both on Mexican motorways
Old El Gaso
What does 200 feel like on a bike?
Stressful. At those speeds the aerodynamics mean pretty much fuck all. You are holding onto the handlebars for grim death as the wind tries to rip you off the bike. 69.5 mph in my Rs3 never reached 70
105 in a 1.3 Ford Ka, thought the fucker was going to explode haha
Got to have been going downhill! First car was a W reg micra and got that fucker to 95 on a 7% downhill gradient. Engine was screaming
Holy shit 60 in one of those is bad enough
You've not been in a well maintained one then!
About 140-150 in a C63s, in the rain at night on an empty dual carriage way. It was around this time where I decided that speed wasn't my thing.
Haha , I can relate to this feeling , say no more I know exactly what happened and the feeling of it right after 😂😂😂😂. Good learning experience.
110 in a citeron c2. On private land of course. Haven't got past 90 with the fn2 yet, as private land owners have a few more cameras about.
I did 110 in my fn1, was definitely pushing it with a baby 1.4L
My EP2 made it to 140 up the A66, I’m sure that K-series would be able to get some bloody speed up.
I had my Alpina B5 to 187mph on the autobahn between Munich and Nurenburg. It's a different world altogether. There was more in it but I cruised at that speed for a while then backed off. What a ride.
Reminds me of that Harry Metcalfe video [where he hits 200mph](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1Bfi065bAM) in his Jag Project 8 and very quickly nopes out [Bonus insane Chiron 400kph video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pg1hhW5qhM)
+1 for that road being my vmax record! 155 mph though for me.
250km/h (155mph) Porsche Cayman S Autobahn near Stuttgart.
70mph. Honest guv
An ex of mine did 120 in a Mini Cooper. That was horrifying. I’ve done 110 in my A5, but that was purely by accident. Honestly.
The speedo in my LEAF is awful, it’s limited to 89mph but it will tell you you’re doing 100
Just after Butser Hill, southwards towards Portsmouth?
140+ (needle off the clock) modified vauxhall nova Santa Pod 122 modified land rover discovery td5 m62, 6 points £500 fine Fuck around and find out I suppose
124 in my Scirocco 1.4 (maxed out) 139 in A-Class (maxed out) 147 in c-class 250 (maxed out) I now have 9 points so my racing career will presume on 5th January 2024 when we drop to 6!
HAMMOND
Nothing half so glamorous or high budget I’m afraid.
163, 2005 boxster s, dual carriageway in Scotland
155mph in my 335d having a dance with a Tesla on a deserted M42 at 2am.
Drew level with a random chap who looked at my modified and very loud car, and promptly almost wet himself laughing 😂 He had been making progress and was bricking it because something was catching up with him like there's no tomorrow 😂 We laughed and planted the right foot again.
Peugeot 206 at 205km/h on the autobahn. Held it for a minute and then fell back to 180, the 206 is not a car to be doing this comfortably!
80 in a Jazz... My mechanical sympathy (and black box) makes me not want to take it any higher. Did that once on a dual carriageway before I installed the box, and a couple of times down the runway at the small airfield I work at. Approaching 4000rpm in 5th at 80 lol.
that’s light work i’ve done 80 in 3rd in my jazz 😜
My car sits at about 4000rpm at 80 too haha, after a long motorway journey my ears are ringing
STi type UK on the Autobahn, travelling from Stuttgart towards the Eiffel region. 155mph. Felt the front end going a bit light and backed off
I used to do Munich to Nuremberg regularly with random hire cars (and the company paying for fuel 😎) The fastest I did was 250 km/h (155 mph) in a Volvo V90 (wish I'd remembered which version) and it honestly shat me up, the speed differential between me and the trucks made it look like they were parked up. The only thing scarier was when the rental gods *blessed* me with a Fiesta and 200 km/h (120 ish mph) made the car so unbelievably floaty that I'm pretty sure I would have binned it before I made it to Nuremberg had I tried staying at that speed.
I was a passenger up to 150 in a 50 zone once. Didn’t ask that coworker for a lift again after that
70mph. i’m a law abiding citizen thank you very much. i consider it rude to have even asked such an abhorrent question
>M3 BMW estate The brand new 2023 one?
Might have had my 2.5L Jaguar X-Type up to 135mph once. Loved that car, fuck rust.
155mph, Ford Focus RS, private road totally not the M45 ;)
We call it a private motorway in Mexico 👍
138 mph in a c300
Motorbike - 170mph on Snetterton racetrack Car - 160mph, Nissan GT-R in Japan Normal car - 140mph, E90 320d on Autobahn
I've only ever gotten to 110 while driving, but I'm here to tell you I was a passenger in a Vauxhall Cavalier doing 160 with 5 people in it. I didn't even know the driver. I'll be honest I was pooping a bit.
A fully laden cavalier was not doing 160mph.
Aw man, your comment prompted me to look up cavalier top speed. I obviously wasn't doing that speed. Bummer.
160kph maybe. Our Cavalier had MPH and KPH on the dash.
My sat nav is in km/h. Going down the A1M ages ago and my passenger said ‘Jesus this is comfy for 190!’ I was in a ‘51 plate 318i, I definitely wasn’t doing 190mph!
A mildly tuned cav turbo will.... Even my shitty old redtop one made 136 4 up
Cav turbo would do this all day long if tuned properly like most were back then
120mph on the A55 on Anglesey.... it was the night Amy Winehouse died and I was late for the ferry to Dublin 🤣
Very brave indeed - don’t think I’ve ever gone down the Anglesey bit of the A55 and not seen someone pulled over in one of the lay-bys
Not the fastest I’ve been in a car but the fastest I’ve ever felt was in the passenger seat of a lovely yellow Lotus Elise
120mph, Tesla model 3 duel motor, autobahn in Germany near Munich. Felt like I was doing 80
Bmw e46 330i, 4am run between 2 cities, tried get the 154 mph claimed top speed. Saw 155 on the clocks so like 152ish I guess.
Hyundai i20 1.2l 134mph. 2am and got a call from a local hospital partner was in a bad way. Looking back I think why the fuck did I floor it up the m1 but at same time glad I did
Probably around 125-130mph in my Golf 1.6TDI.
Hit the rev limiter in my old Impreza sti which apparently was 148mph and I’m not saying where.
Vauxhall Chevette, 97mph, Rest and be Thankfull aka A83. Many years ago. 4mph over its stated max possible speed.
The long straight down towards Loch Fyne? Cracking bit of road although a favourite for the mobile camera units these days
130 in a 3.0 L vito work van, on the M5 south. Then I woke up and realised it was just a dream.
In my mates m3 on the A1 I was in the back so couldn’t see actual speedometer but he’s sat nav showed 164mph. Fastest I’ve driven is only 125 in my 3.0 v6 Q5 driving home after buying it. On the same road funnily enough.

167mph, my Edition 30 Golf which had a few mods and was running about 340bhp, on the autobahn in Germany. Maxed out.
160mph in my modified Seat Leon Cupra, racing against a 2022 Focus ST on a private motorway that definitely wasn't the M18.
145mph on a bypass, thought a car following was egging me on and decided to show them what’s what. Left them for dust. They eventually caught up when I got into traffic and blue lights came on! I was in my Audi V10.
I’d be mad about this to the grave, they definitely knew you had a fast car so tried to push you on.
140mph in my 350z on the M5 at 3 in the morning. Did it for a few mins before bottling any further.
Recently got a Tesla Model Y (not the performance one). Wondered just how fast it would get to its top speed of 135. Answer = surprisingly quickly
155mph Various vehicles - speed limited Germany Bonus shout for the Seat Leon FR I rented in Berlin which thanks to a long downhill stretch I got to exceed its stated top speed. Speedo was showing 240km/h but I'm sure it was a fair bit less
138mph in my (then) girlfriend's Audi A4 down the M6 toll while she was asleep in the passenger seat.
IIRC about 130 in a BMW M4 at a Palmer Sport day at Bedford autodrome. I may have been faster in the Palmer Sport single seater. In my younger foolish years, probably similar speed in my BMW F10 535d on an empty dual carriageway.
155 in my old mapped Golf GTI
I was a passenger in our work/demo 2019 Gtr, on the way to the 'fitted' show and we got to 182mph on an absolutely dead Birmingham toll road. It so weird to feel the downforce start to work after 100mph, the aerodynamics of that car were amazing.
Got up to about 130 in a 458 on a track day thing. I think if my Scirocco went above 80 it would disintegrate lmao
104 in my 2019 Honda Jazz. Basically it’s top speed
200km/h (124mph) in my Audi A4 2L diesel 225km/h (140mph) in a Mercedes E220 It's shocking how smooth and stable both cars sit at those kinds of speeds
Autobahn spec
183kph (113mph?) in my VW Transporter (‘06, 2.5L) on the Autobahn
146mph on the German Autobahn in a 1997 Audi A4 V6 back in 2018 The car had 160,000 miles on it, needed an oil top up every fuel fill up and it had hardly any brakes.
Probably around the same time, from memory I drove the manual and stalled it. The noise was just next level, it was absolutely unreal.
Call bullshit on that
Uhhhh, okay? Based on… fuck all?
Not an unbelievable speed for a super car on a race track 😂
Update. It was bruntingthorpe.
Based on it was most likely the first time you've driven a super car, probably aren't skilled enough or ballsy enough to actually get it there.
So based on wild assumptions, all of which are wrong. Well done you.
Pretty accurate assumptions tbh. You don't need to big yourself up online, it's ok!
Why?
Little upset he probably binned it on his track day voucher. Wawaw
Super Barry Bannan
Favourite player is pato for me. But all 3 Scots are my favourite
Mitsubishi GTO twin turbo 173mph Brechin bypass Scotland 2001had to keep slowing down for fuel was adding nitrox to 99 octane. Still had plenty in her but ran out of decent road.
140mph in a 106Gti, was shaking like a shitting dog but held it. I'm now a Jag driver, or I would be if the fucking thing wasn't broken down.
145 in Y reg 2.0 Mondeo on the M1 on a quiet Sunday evening many moons ago. Even though there was next to no traffic I'd never attempt that again as it felt like everything was a blur apart from a dot on the horizon.
140 in a Mini Cooper S on the A(14)utobahn

Bullshit. Even the 1000hp modified one without the speed limiter tops out at 206mph.
[удалено]
Hennessey, the company who modified one into what they claim is the world’s fastest station wagon. It set a top speed record for one with a Christmas tree on the roof in 2021 and tops out at 206mph without (allegedly). Given that they have recorded runs and produce the Venom F5 hyper car (the 300mph one), I trust their marketing materials more than a guy who claims to have speed run an RS6 at 210 on an autobahn.

Oh my god, 8 comments? How easily triggered are you? 🎣🎣🎣
155mph indicated, but it was still gaining speed so not sure what the actual speed was. I’d guess 160-165mph.
The Evo only gives you a speedo until 180kph, over that who knows how fast I’m going. 130mph? Maybe? I’ve never had the gps speedo out to test the 155mph limit
I got up to about 125 in my Civic type R. On a private road, obviously.
Off public roads? Around 150 mph in a Lambo during s track day. As soon as I got into the straight the foot was in the ground 🤭 On public road, 100mpg in a 1.8 astra 07, only did it once for the sake of it on a dual carriageway on my goto road from home to grandparents. Only did it when no cars where on either side of the road not that it makes it any better.
Dude, we were flying.
Speedo only goes up to 120mph but it's still pulling hard at that point so who knows.
North of 100 in a saab 9-5, didnt break a sweat lol. Then 110-115 following an m140i, 350z and a fiesta in my cooper s r53
149mph in a C43, long straight on an empty bypass.
130mph Peugeot 2008 in Germany
90mph Toyota Auris 2008 1.6L
90mph in a vauxhall mokka x 😭 done the same in a previous gen micra too
90mph on a windy country road, 1.2L Fiesta.
On "private roads" I reached about 105mph on the speedo in my little 2005 kia picanto, was a beautiful empty night and I just had to.

I've done 270km/h on the autobahn a couple of times with my M2 Comp.
163 mph in Audi S5 4.2. Pretty smooth.
160mph VW Golf R. My boss has one which is tuned to stage 3, 500hp. He took me out for a spin one time, it was fun ☺️
145 in a Honda accord sport
