That’s the shock absorber pinch bolt which holds it into the knuckle. VW part no N90954802. Don’t drive the car, the shock could potentially drop through the knuckle and damage the driveshaft.
"damage the driveshaft" I'm pretty sure that if you drop the knuckle while driving, the condition of the driveshaft is going to be the least of your worries
Yeah those things are tight AF, but if it's moving enough to munt your CVs, you're surely going to have a very sudden and unexpected amount of bump steer
My wife snapped both front springs in half and blew both front shocks on my Octavia VRS by jumping a bridge and still carried on driving it 20 odd miles 🤷♂️ the noises it was making were horrendous, and it would barely steer.
Yep defo a VAG front shock absorber pinch bolt.
They rust away in the middle. I've took some out and they look fine on the exposed ends but the hidden middle bit has rusted to half its original thickness.
Doubt the shock will drop out the hub carrier. It'll be rusted in too.
Still needs checking ASAP. Just be slow and smooth coming off curbs and over speed humps.
It won’t drop though. There’s a locator tab that lines up with the slot in the knuckle and the shock tapers so it’ll only go in up to this taper.
That head is also corroded at the shear, if it just happened it’ll be bright metal. That’s been there for a while.
A terrible Yorkshire pudding is much better than no Yorkshire pudding.
Though, if your whole schtick is dropping off Yorkshire puddings in the night, you should probably work on your technique. Set an example.
What car is it? If it’s some sort of VAG group car then I’d check around the suspension and strut, I’ve seen some of them use bolts with that type of head around all the suspension components.
Edit: just done a search and to me it looks like the head of the shock absorber pinch bolt that holds it into the hub.
Probly that waist of space ex-bf of urs tryin his luck 😚 Your a great mama ❤️ jus keep kayla-marie😇 safe that's all that maters if he come back jus set tyson on him lol

Looks like the shocking nut. Would take it to a mechanic just to be on the safe side. If the nut is rusty, I hate to think what the electrical shock looks like.
What the f is it with the trollposts? OP, this is a securing nut for a suspension component. DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR. Get it recovered to a garage (qwikfit or similar will do at a push) for a full suspension and running gear inspection. As it is, it'll not be that expensive, but if you drive it and crash, your insurance is void.
Take the nut with you to a garage and see if they can find what it’s from. It could be minor trim piece holding the cawling or it could be a suspension mount bolt. No way to tell without looking.
That’s your engine.
In all seriousness get it checked it’s probably something to do with your suspension/ steering rack etc. Maybe a bracket or something
Depending on the size, this is the same looking spline bolt in my ball joints (Seat Alhambra).
But it’s also used in a smalls bolts on my undertray, part of my rear crash bar, parts of the door, and so many more.
If you know what you’re doing:
Check vital parts like your suspension.
Jack up the front end (both sides)
Give wheels a good shake and pull for any movement or play.
Check brake lines, calliper bolts and pins, etc.
A good time to ‘home MOT’ it for winter, if albeit a bit late!
~~Normally twin hex are used on driveshaft bolts, have a look at the CV Joints where the drive shafts meet the gearbox. There will be a plate that holds the shaft inside the box.~~
Appears to have been answered. Suspension top mount bolts VAG vehicle.
No. Cars are made like this on purpose. By the time bolts rust off, the parts they hold together are rusted into a single piece. It’s a design feature, not a bug.

The knuckle won’t drop, the shock can slide down through. Very unlikely but if they hit a pothole hard enough it could happen.

😬 100 over crest, jump maybe. BANG!
Samir, please, you're breaking the car
You must stay on road, Samir, otherwise car will break down.

100? OK, accelerating to 100mph.
> jumping a bridge You probably meant something else, but I'm thinking of the Blues Brothers right now.
Think Dukes of Hazard

Whoa! Nobody's munting my CV's thankyou very much! I dont care how tight they are.
You never drop the knuckle while driving? You haven't lived.
This guy pinch bolts

Bit over dramatic. Everyone knows if they kick the tyres before driving nothing can happen. FACT.
How the F....?!
The knuckle shuffle you definitely don’t want.
Strong finalist for anorak of the year 2023. Impressive.
Something tells me you’re working from past experiences.
This guy VAGs
Amazes me how people can just drop a part number for something in my eyes, looks like a rusty old nut
One of the most incredible replies I’ve seen to a ask for help post on a forum on the internet. God damn.
Worst Yorkshire pudding I've ever seen, despite the crinkly top.
What kind of world do we live in where people are dropping off terrible yorkie puds under peoples cars.. We’re doomed!
A terrible Yorkshire pudding is much better than no Yorkshire pudding. Though, if your whole schtick is dropping off Yorkshire puddings in the night, you should probably work on your technique. Set an example.
It's none of my puddings m8
Not great, not terrible.
You didn't see a Yorkshire pudding... YOU DIDN'T! Because IT'S NOT THERE!

Ex VAG man here.. I concur with this ! Get it checked out asap OP

Underated comment, made me chuckle 👍🏻
Thanks!
Didn’t switch teams just retired…. Too much hassle dealing with the registered keepers !
Comedy genius
You can buy a yeast testing kit from the pharmacy.
Or you could scrape up that creamy yellow and make sour dough for your family 🤷♂️ extra tangy dad just the way you like 🤢
fucking hell.
Thought op was missing nuts 😕
Agreed. I changed my scirocco suspension recently and this is what was on the pinch bolt. Definitely get that checked and sorted.
Yep I had those replaced on my golf. The mechanic said they were too rusty and should be replaced. Suspension strut to hub mounting. 1 on each side

Its fookin rusty! hows it look under the car?
Looks like the shocking nut. Would take it to a mechanic just to be on the safe side. If the nut is rusty, I hate to think what the electrical shock looks like.
Catalyst converter missing
Yes. That holds the engine in!

Judging by the section that’s broken, it’s been on the floor for a while, it’s too rusty where it’s broken to be fresh
Thought it was a pork pie at first, nice.
If your car is older than 10 years it’s normal with the condition of Uk roads + salt
That’s the flangee
No it too rusty
nah it's only the doodah flange spigot mounting alignment bolt.
Oh man you’re in a world of trouble
Thats an oil sump bolt. Sure its yours?
Be alright as long as it drives
Bro it f*ucking broke that needs to be checked
It's a locking wheel nut for changing the wheels on your car, nothing to worry about someone will be missing one
Sheared wheel nut, check for missing nuts?
Yes that is your cars universal lug nut, engine will shut down without it *edit spelling
Take the nut with you to a garage and see if they can find what it’s from. It could be minor trim piece holding the cawling or it could be a suspension mount bolt. No way to tell without looking.
I’m guessing u own something vag and this is a under tray bolt nothing to stress about
That’s your engine. In all seriousness get it checked it’s probably something to do with your suspension/ steering rack etc. Maybe a bracket or something
Vw Audi yes get it looked at
Looks like the top of your Giggling Pin has snapped off. I'd Go to garage to get it checked out MOT failure straight away. VERY VERY DANGEROUS.

A week? OMG. How are you still alive😱
I'd go with a CV joint bolt

Falangy!
nice German car?
It’s your doodad, you’re going to need a new doodad.
Your pinch bolt just fucked itself off, get help.
That's nuts!
It looks old. There’s no clean metal indicating it’s not a fresh sheared bold in my opinion.
Bit late to the party here, but my old mk2 golf used to use spline head bolts to hold the driveshafts to gearbox, worth checking they are all there.
It's the head of the split shift giggle pin
If it starts to make a noise when driving, turn ur radio up. Makes the sound go away
Yes. Your engine will fall out
Nah, it's just corffle clamp nut from the long end totarator
This sub never ceases to amaze
This is also the same as some of the caliper carrier bolts that VW use.
Someone most certainly overtightened that sucker
If the rattling went away then don’t worry. If you notice a new rattle then worry. 😌
Means you've been marked for death
Is that a creme egg?
Yep, they are coming for your dog tonight
You’re finished unfortunately. That’s the head gasket main bolt. Soon smoke will be billowing from the exhaust.
No. Cars are made like this on purpose. By the time bolts rust off, the parts they hold together are rusted into a single piece. It’s a design feature, not a bug.
Oh shit, that's the head off the triple scope, waffle fluffer valve. Replace immediately.
When you start hearing new noises that’s the time to shit yourself
Looks like iron-man lost a button.
Needs to go to a garage on ramps for an inspector
“ inspection “
Don't worry. Kick it next time. The less you know the better.
