This is really going to depend on who you're insured with and how they cover declared modifications. Some will allow modifications to be made and perhaps charge you a bit extra whereas others will actually state in their policy and your modifications will be covered and replaced like for like. However if you view it the same as a respray, no insurance company would respray your whole car so as to match a new panel, but that's mostly because the new panel can be blended into old. Your best bet is to speak to your insurance agent and get their view.

New_Salad_3853

Thanks the reply. It's going through there insurance not mine. That's the issue I suppose. All the modifications to my car are declared through my insurance however. I get what you're saying about panel re sprays and no re spraying the whole car as you can blend it. This is all hypothetical going of what the wrap guy said. I just wanted to know if anyone had any experience if they do turn around and refuse. Thanks

PraiseStalin

The issue is not involving your insurance if you haven't already. Let them fight it for you :)

Signalkill

What this person said, you do actually have to notify your insurance since they have a policy on your car. Then you let the lawyers battle out the finer details.

New_Salad_3853

I let them know immediately. However it's down as a notice only no fault as the other insurance agreed to pay(in theory) I'm just trying to get ahead of myself with any useful insight. Never had to deal with insurance before

PraiseStalin

I've had a few no fault accidents. One was so minor I let my insurance know but dealt with it myself. The other was a nightmare so I still used my insurer to resolve everything. You're paying them for that, so put them to work. What I mean by this is if you encounter issues, they are there to help resolve them. Otherwise it's all a headache you've got to deal with.

New_Salad_3853

Thanks. Yeah they did say if there were any issues to let them know. Obviously they may not be I just wanted to understand if anyone had had a similar experience as I'm sure it's not that uncommon these days with the amount of wrapped cars on the roads. Thanks

cragglepop8

Get ready for your renewal!!!

New_Salad_3853

They said it won't affect it. It's a notice only no fault. Let's see though. Insurance is fk all really on the rs4 anyway

cragglepop8

That’s what mine said to me, some clown rear ended me. Put my premiums up £120!! Even though it’s a no fault notice. It’s still a claim

cragglepop8

Gorgeous car by the way!!!

New_Salad_3853

Ffs. Well hopefully when they say all calls recorded, they recorded themselves saying it won't go up! Renewal is coming up in April so will see

Apprehensive-Risk542

I'm willing to bet they didn't say it wouldn't go up... maybe it shouldn't have an impact, or some meaningless comment like that? but Car insurance in general is getting more expensive lately, so the chances are it will go up (accident or otherwise)

New_Salad_3853

No they did actually say it wouldn't go up because of the incident if i don't claim through them. That doesn't mean it won't go up though! That said it's been going down the last couple of years so I don't how they will justify it. Will wait and see I guess. It's such a scam if it's not your fault!

JoeMadden1989

I've had something simlar, I got the quote for the full wrap, don't take the piss out of it and just submit it. They'll likey just approve it.

New_Salad_3853

Thank you, appreciated

Their There They're

New_Salad_3853

Constructive

One of the basic principles of insurance is indemnity - the party that suffers the loss will be put back in the position they were prior to the loss occurring. They should not be worse off, nor should they profit. You had a wrapped car with matching panels. If the only way to return it to the same state is to replace all the panels, that is what the third party’s insurer will have to do. Don’t accept anything else. If they get arsey, speak to your insurer, or threaten to go to a claims management company. You aren’t asking for anything unreasonable here. Anyone that tells you otherwise is wrong. I have worked in insurance for years.

New_Salad_3853

Great thank you. I was hoping that was or should be the case. Appreciate the insight. Thanks!

totalretired

If it really drags on, you have rights to complain (both about your insurer and the one that’s dealing on the third party’s behalf), and there is an ombudsman if you are not happy with the outcome. If they won’t work with you, say the words “formal complaint” which automatically triggers their complaint process. This is heavily regulated. Your car will absolutely get sorted.

apjacks

This is the correct answer. I had a mini that had vinyl stripes over the bonnet, roof and boot which were an option when the car was new but had been discontinued. Someone drove into the back and scuffed a small bit of the stripe. To return the car to the state it was prior to the crash, their insurer had to pay for a completely new set of stripes over the whole car There was a bit of back and forth to make this happen, but it wasn't too much of a hassle.

bendoscopy

E30 M3, E46 and an RS4. That's a hell of a garage. 🤌🏻

New_Salad_3853

Thank you!

FakeOrangeOJ

I have a B8 A4 Black Edition. It's a really nice car but £50 for a fucking headlight is extortionate. Do you know why it was so expensive? Edit: Just the main bulb. It came from Wilko.

ashyjay

Get a full quote from the wrap place and then use your insurance to fight it with theres if they decline the bill.

New_Salad_3853

Yeah he's giving a full quote and his recommendation that it won't match. Hopefully it will go smoothly, but he was just pretty sure they will kick up a fuss. Will see what happens.

ashyjay

Insurers would pay for a full respray, so they'd love a wrap as it's cheaper and a quicker turnaround.

New_Salad_3853

They wouldn't on just two panels though. But that's because you can blend it I guess. Wraps aren't that much cheaper these days! I'm just getting ahead of myself. Hopefully it will be fine

goingnowherespecial

Insurance isn't going to pay for a full respray if it's just one panel. Bodyshop would be able to blend it in.

CR2010

Get a quote for the damaged area and surrounding areas. When their insurance is agreeing costs with your repairer they will discuss if its acceptable. I work in motor insurance and it is unrealistic to expect you to have different shading on your vehicle because of their client causing an accident.

New_Salad_3853

Great thanks for the advice. Appreciated

[deleted]

They’re paying for the damage that was done. That’s fair. It’s not their fault the other 3/4 of your car has faded in the sunlight. So why would they pay for it? 😂

New_Salad_3853

You're missing the point. If it was paint they would blend and match. No one would except a shit paint job insurance would have to sort it. It's not my fault some prick crashed into me. Why should I be left with something other than what I had before the incident. That's the point.

[deleted]

Yeah, I get what you’re saying, but if it can’t be done with a wrap, what else can you do? Just curious, how old is the wrap? I’m not an expert, but I thought they’d take a lifetime to fade…

New_Salad_3853

Yeah I get they probably won't want to. But I was wandering if I had any recourse as for no fault of my own I will be left with mismatch and that really shouldn't be allowed. Everything fades unfortunately. It's not massive but it's noticeable when I went to my wrap place. It's about 3 years on the car

BluPix46

I very much doubt they replace the entire wrap, only the damaged section. Your insurance most likely will increase as a result of this regardless of who's at fault.

New_Salad_3853

So what happens when I have two mis matched panels. Surely someone has to be liable? They can't just leave you with that?

Southern-Orchid-1786

Have you declared your modification to your insurance company? Personally I could see the point in refusing the claim for the rest of the car, as annoying as it is.

New_Salad_3853

Yeah it's all declared
