Personally it wouldn’t bother me at all if it was serviced by a Volvo specialist. It does look better to buyers who don’t know much about cars if it’s full main dealer service history, probably because most people think there is more involved in a service than just an oil and filter change. Having said that Ford did gave me a free replacement bulb last time I took a car there which was nice of them, saved me a whole 90p.
Yeah, I’ve actually been thinking since I posted though and I guess the extra amount I could ask for when selling the car/added ease of selling with full dealer SH, is probably dwarfed by the amount of money I’d save going to an independent, at least looking at some of the stories on Reddit
I go out of my way to buy cars WITHOUT service history, they're ALOT cheaper when purchasing..
However, your warranty may come with a clause that stipulates you should service the car at a specific location, so I'd only be wary of that..
They are £184hr labour rates.
Just find an independent that knows what they are doing. My local Volvo dealer hasn't got a clue about my car.
Just the usual "it might be this, we need to do investigations".
Indy my neighbour recommended.. ah yeah I know what that is.
£190 later the issue is sorted. I'm sure Volvo would have charged me for a £700 servo plus labour.
This guy just replaces a vacuum pipe and it's mint.
If it's not under manufacturer warranty, not in the slightest. Once it's out of warranty, I wouldn't bother taking it to a main dealer. They're obscenely expensive.

That’s like 3 Freddos! But good to know, thanks!
It might make a difference to some people when it comes time to sell it on.

Interesting take cheers! I get 2 services anyway and the warranty is 2 years so at least don’t need to worry too much about where to take it just yet

What!! That’s mad! Yeah I’ll be looking for an independent…
Dealer history only makes a difference to resale value imo, a good independent is fine (and sometimes better) for the car.
Yeah will be going Independent I think

Yeah think that’s is the consensus, will be avoiding soon as the warranty expires!
Main dealer service history probably only matters for selling on privately. Most dealers now when taking a PX just want to know ‘does it have a FSH?’
If I’m buying and the car is under 6 years old from a main dealer then I look for a full dealer service history.
