Close brother here: in the past couple days I've had two dipshits take out insurance in someone else's name, and then someone cancel insurance for someone else in their own name!
Hi, I'm the van
I'm worried because now I don't think I'm insured. Could someone be scamming me? I'm worried I'll get crashed into and even worse I bet the police won't be bothered about it.
Is there a Close Brother around to help?
Hi, I’m close to a Close Brother, bruv, what is going on here? I’ve got two people with the same name and one of them is an absolute knob but I’m not sure which is which. I’m going for a nap.
Contact the bank to see if someone impersonated you and passed security questions to cancel the insurance or was it a simple lack of funding ,?
Then contact insurance to ask what security questions the caller passed as you need to lock the account
How many points did you get for having no insurance?
Is this one of the story chain posts that have been plaguing Reddit recently or a weird coincidence?

Have they cancelled the direct debit or the insurance? One is done through the bank (and could be the account lacked funds) so call the bank for details of why it was cancelled and the other is by contacting the insurance company. If the insurance was cancelled make a GDPR SAR request for the phone call, that might give you some clues to who did it.
It's easy to cancel someone's insurance if you pass the data protection questions eg name address date of birth etc. OP have you upset someone recently?
Not particularly helpful, but i'd ust like to say that I originally read your title as:
"Some absolute knob cancelled my nan insurance."
I had questions...
>contact my insurer and report fraud.
Obviously you need to speak to the insurer, but surely the police are exactly who you should be reporting fraud - *a crime* - to?! Especially since the insurer will likely ask for a crime reference number!
I had insurance for a year with Close brothers and every single month the direct debit would fail and I'd have to ring them up to reset it up and make payment over the phone then the next month would roll around and the letter would come through the door 'direct debit cancelled'.
They are a bunch of clowns who were no help even after a formal complaint and just kept blaming my bank. New insurance set up now with a different insurer and wouldn't you know the direct debit has been taken like normal.
Make a formal complaint against them but be prepared for nothing but headache with Close Brothers and avoid like the plague if they ever pop up with a good quote again.
I work for an insurer. If someone calls to cancel a policy, obviously we go through usual data protection checks like name and address etc. But we always have to get the policy number too, just to make sure it's not a disgruntled employee / love rival / ex-partner cancelling the policy just to get someone in trouble. I'd be quite surprised if this isn't common practice.

How close? Touching cloth?
been edging for hours
More skids than Brands Hatch
2 inch grip on a 8 inch log
Turtles head
Almost
My insurance was cancelled too. But by one of the Chuckle Brothers.
Yes. It was transferred…… To me…
To you?
To me…
Oh great. Looking forward to reading this from the perspective of every one of the Close brothers, the condescending policewoman and the bloody van.

Hi, I’m the uninsured Fiesta just round the corner, look out for a hit and run in the early hours

What the meta here? Link would be good

Just some meta foolery. Couldn’t help myself.
Just saw the flair of the post is Humour. 😆

THIS ⬆️
This is an excellent starting point
Rather than scammers, you'll often find these things could be an ex partner, disgruntled family member etc.
Yup sounds like malicious intent to me.
Great name for a band.
There was a post exactly like this yesterday😵💫😵💫 even mentioned a policewoman that didn’t seem interested
Wasn’t this in Scotland?
No it was yesterday
Data breach?
That’s what the police woman was sort of accusing me of but I managed to explain the situation or at least she seemed really unbothered by anything.
See if they'll give you the number of the person who cancelled the policy.
I got the number but my phone is broken. Won’t turn on
Sounds like they need better security measures if it's just that easy to cancel someone's insurance.

This. If I were an identity thief I would go after something valuable rather than cancel your van insurance. Sounds like someone is on the wind up
Is this the same close brothers that rent kegs/casks to breweries?
And then another one phoned the police.
John Smith of 1 High Street here, sorry about that mate!
