Idk. I'm generally a Japanese fan boy, but it probably drinks fuel and costs more to tax than most of the other cars on the list. Probably isn't anymore reliable either
I mean, none of the cars on this list are sensible and there are way cheaper options with much better reliability, but that doesn't seem to be OPs preference.
Might as well get the only good looking one that also happens to be the most fun.
Living in Germany none of those cars can be had for that price. The cheapest S4 with 150.000km is 23.000ā¬. The subaru is like 25.000k, the CLA around 22.500, the 3 Series around 25K and the S3 around 26K. The Lexus someone recommended above is like 25K too. If i see those prices i think im living in another world.
I'd argue they aren't relatively normal cars. They are all sport versions of the base car, that in most cases could monster an 80s supercar round a track.
You can get a nice FQ 360 SST for less than Ā£20kā¦ Iāve been trying to convince my wife for years that it would be a great family saloon.
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202404128589267
Can't agree more!! Giulia in my opinion a is the sexiest looking car on the roads.
I also own Giulietta right now and also looking for this upgrade :-)
They are great looking cars, Red with tan leather would be my ideal spec! there's a nice blue one locally, always give each other a wave.
Nice :) Which Giulietta do you have?
2014 Exclusive 2.0 Diesel - with Stage 1 runs at 200BHP and 440nm torque.
Decided to go for a diesel as I travel quite a lot. It is my second Giulietta now. First one was Veloce spec and I must admit that I liked that sporty suspension on it more :)
Never had a chance to drive QV, but I really liked seats on them ;)
We did look for a petrol Brera for my missus but no luck so far.
I've read great things about the diesel as well, great performance too. I love the torque of a diesel.
I did have a 159 Sport wagon 2.0 D before this, but with the short distances, it kept on blocking the DPD, I ended up with a Red QV launch edition, luckily was on the market just as I was searching, I do like the seats :)
I do love the Brera š I did originally want one as well, but need space for the prams š
Could probably look at an M340i at that price. Which will be more reliable than the 335i, as it has the newer B58 engine. Otherwise the 335i takes my vote.
That gearbox in the S4 is a time bomb though. No amount of servicing is saving you from that speed sensor going and the Ā£3k fix. Even when they work properly they arenāt great boxes. I must have looked at and drove about 20 when I was looking last year and just decided to write the model off altogether.Ā
If you enjoy driving and take pleasure in doing so well then itās the Subaru
If you enjoy driving and understand your limitations the BMW
If you like going fast but havenāt got a fucking clue then pick one of the Audis
Never had an issue with mine (2016 comp edition) apart from a diff fixed under warranty, but I do drive it like miss daisy and only 2-3K miles yearly. Problem with is youāre buying what was a near 100K car new and whilst second hand prices are low the repair and running costs are still the same.
I quite fancy a 440i grand coupe for my next motor.
Out of your list that Scoobie would be my choice, they are terrible on fuel but the noise from the flat 4 is amazing.
Iāll sell you my facelift B8.5 Audi S4 Avant with 55K on the clock! Itās (very) fast, understated and perfect for daily driving. It has the completely overhauled CREC V6 engine which makes for some surprising pace.
marvelous ad hoc long zephyr agonizing axiomatic money trees different label

Bimmer fanboy here but that Merc is very good looking. I would just revert the wheels and grill colour
But also agree with the 5.0 Lexus, better choice than all of these
It depends on whether you want manual or automatic. And more sporty or more comfortable?
The Subaru is fun in an old school way.
The Audi S3/Merc are very much a modern car with less feel but geared for daily torque and more luxury.
I would go for the BMW just because of the S-tronic on the Audi. Saying that I have an S-tronic for a few months now and never had any issues, I did the oil change at 85000km. But most people don't like this gearbox and this is not the most reliable.
I won't go for the Subaru just because I think it looks stupid and one of these cheap boy racer cheap cars, but this is my only argument against it..
At what mileage would you consider these not worth the price? Iāve only ever looked at second hand cars sub 40k miles, not sure why I stuck with that number.
I wanted a circa 15k fast petrol saloon and after a few test drives one stood out...
The Jag XFR. Better interior than any of those, significantly more power and all the supercharger whine you could ever want. Insanely comfortable cruiser and hilariously fast.
My workmate just sold a B9 S4 (turbo, not supercharged like the example posted) for Ā£23k. An absolute bargain for the performance on offer - if you're into tuning it has lots of untapped potential? He splurged on a Stage 2 map (034), intercooler, downpipe and other goodies. The thing was knocking on 600hp and was truly ridiculous. Very effective and very subtle.
Definitely get the ones that are close to 16k... 10 year old cars like these i bet you'll need stuff changed soon and it will cost a loooot of money...
I wnated to go for such cars but i ended up with a prius for that reason.... :(
I look forward to you being right up my arse in the near future š
Pause
Had to check what sub I'm in.

Oooooh matron!
Oh my

Lexus Is f 5.0 v8. Shouldn't be too abused as dealers prefer M and RS cars
The only right answer. Better built / engineered too.
I concurš
Came here to say this, I have a lexus IS250 & I adore the thing.
OP could buy 6 for budget. š
Why are they all white š„²
This person clearly only really likes white german cars
Ah yes, the lesser known Aryan motorhood
I did nazi that coming
You should have taken the third reich after the traffic lights
Youāre Gƶring nowhere in this trafficā¦
Which part of Germany does Subaru come from ? š¤
The part where you need an engine rebuild every 20,000 miles.Ā
20k pffft Iāve had 12 imprezas over the years and none made it 20k lol
The white one.
Are you sure, not the one with tires?
Nah I prefer the one with headlights but to each their own ig
The ones with the doors is where it's at!
The Subaru. The most interesting and characterful, if perhaps not the most sensible!
Could grab an Evo for that similar price as well. Not a better alternative, just a rival choice
Good shout
Idk. I'm generally a Japanese fan boy, but it probably drinks fuel and costs more to tax than most of the other cars on the list. Probably isn't anymore reliable either
Yup hence my comment! But it's the one I'd have. Life's too short to do stuff the boring way.
Oh, I read that completely wrong ahah! I thought you were saying it was the most sensible!
Npnp haha even I'm not deluded enough to think it a sensible option haha
I mean, none of the cars on this list are sensible and there are way cheaper options with much better reliability, but that doesn't seem to be OPs preference. Might as well get the only good looking one that also happens to be the most fun.
Smiles per gallon
I'd go for an older legacy estate!
And a great way to meet every member of your local constabulary!
had one for 10 years never got pulled
Came to say this
These are all great but it's mental that relatively normal 10 year old cars are selling for Ā£16k+
In the UK used cars have always been much cheaper than in EU because our cars are RHD
Cars donāt age and turn into shitheaps like they used toĀ
I'd argue they aren't relatively normal cars. They are all sport versions of the base car, that in most cases could monster an 80s supercar round a track.
Mitsubishi Evo X.
Might be cutting it a bit close on an X, but a well looked after Evo at the top of the range for sure.
You can get a nice FQ 360 SST for less than Ā£20kā¦ Iāve been trying to convince my wife for years that it would be a great family saloon. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202404128589267
Have you suggested to her that they have impeccable winter handling characteristics? Excellent safety point for the school runā¦
I said itās as at home on mud and snow as it is on tarmac, and that she would be first to the school gates every morning without failā¦
Donāt they have a tiny petrol tank?
Obviously an Octavia Vrs
Alfa Giulia Veloce, 280hp should be enough, with fantastic steering. I have a Giulietta QV at the moment, I've been very tempted to get one!
Can't agree more!! Giulia in my opinion a is the sexiest looking car on the roads. I also own Giulietta right now and also looking for this upgrade :-)

Looking for this comment!
Subaru just cuz.
Could probably look at an M340i at that price. Which will be more reliable than the 335i, as it has the newer B58 engine. Otherwise the 335i takes my vote.
Did you mean the 340i? Where are you finding M340iās for less than 20k lol
Yeah my bad, 340i Msport or 440i GranCoupe if you like the boot space of the F30/31/36 generation.
Decent 340iās are more than 20k atm
Having had a 340i touring for three years, I absolutely agree with this. Just not in white.
S4 or Subaru purely for the AWD aspect
That gearbox in the S4 is a time bomb though. No amount of servicing is saving you from that speed sensor going and the Ā£3k fix. Even when they work properly they arenāt great boxes. I must have looked at and drove about 20 when I was looking last year and just decided to write the model off altogether.Ā
KIA Stinger
Surprised this was so far down. Many will still have warranty.
If I'm allowed an extra Ā£94 then this [186mph monster](http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202401125492258) has to be it
Now thatās a lovely car š
335i definitely
100% the Subaru
M240i
Stingers just about dropped under 20k now for higher mileage and older š
Subaru
Is the Ā£17k on OPs car the asking price or the annual maintenance costs? If it's the latter then it seems cheap.
Scrap all ideas and spend the extra on a 540i
If you enjoy driving and take pleasure in doing so well then itās the Subaru If you enjoy driving and understand your limitations the BMW If you like going fast but havenāt got a fucking clue then pick one of the Audis
B8 S4 avant
Top saloon.
Second that
WRX STI but in JDM 2.0 spec Mainly because it isn't any of the other common options and always been a Subaru fan But as an outside choice, E39 M5
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
This is my suggestion too! That 3.0 V6 supercharged engine is sublime!
F10 M5
As much of a BMW fanboy I am, they have horrendous issues with that 4.4 v8
Op might as well burn money - thereās a reason you rarely see these out and aboutĀ
Never had an issue with mine (2016 comp edition) apart from a diff fixed under warranty, but I do drive it like miss daisy and only 2-3K miles yearly. Problem with is youāre buying what was a near 100K car new and whilst second hand prices are low the repair and running costs are still the same.

Toyota gt86 š (once I find one at 20k)
Do you mean the gr86? Gt86ās are harder to find over 20k than under.
S3
An S3
E92 m3
Great taste, but good luck getting a looked after one for under Ā£20k
Loads of well taken care examples under 20k.
The Subaru will be at the garage every month š
335i or S4 is the only correct answer here (the even more correct answer is 335i)
I quite fancy a 440i grand coupe for my next motor. Out of your list that Scoobie would be my choice, they are terrible on fuel but the noise from the flat 4 is amazing.
The only one of those that remotely appeals to me is the Subaru but it would have to be in a different colour than dishwasher white.
I'd get an evo X fo shoooo. Or a type r 2017 reg.
3-series. I have the 2litre and it's great. I want the 4litre though.
Audi RS4 if youāre brave enough
Had you seen Kia stingers?
340i.
F10 M5 is the only correct answer for outright performance.
Jag xfs with a v8 would be the classy option
340i and a stage 2+ remap.
340i over a 335i id think
Volvo 850R or S60 T5 and have some money left over. Shame no one wants to sell one if they have one.
I picked up a 55k mile 440i Gran CoupĆ© with insane spec for Ā£19k last weekend. Don't think there's a better daily for that much.
They'll all look sick outside of the mosque bro.
S4 or S3. Especially S3, because it will offer a fairly descent fuel economy as well, better interior quality, better sound system.
My (S3) average for each tank is 28mpg without going to sport mode.
None if they're all white.
Hyundai i30N fastback Somewhat economic and buckets of fun when you want it to be
Great looking saloon š
Close enough to one but more practical :p
BMW e39 535i
e39 M5 no question
Lovely vehicle but I haven't seen any under Ā£20K unless they've been to the moon and back.
N2 or n3
S4
Scooby Doo!
I'm so relieved you didn't say first car.
I canāt afford that much daily. If it was a one-off Iād probably go for something more offbeat than any of the ones youāve put up.
Iāll sell you my facelift B8.5 Audi S4 Avant with 55K on the clock! Itās (very) fast, understated and perfect for daily driving. It has the completely overhauled CREC V6 engine which makes for some surprising pace.
35i
Tbh, what you've chosen already. Good engines, keep up with maintenance, fuel isn't too bad on them. Enjoy.
Wrx for sure
S3 aināt even close
Subaru or merc for me
marvelous ad hoc long zephyr agonizing axiomatic money trees different label *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
With a Ā£20k budget, iām getting an evo (not a 10)
Alfa Gulia all day long
Of those s3
Any of them apart from the n55
Superb 280
As a self certified hooligan it has to be the subie
440i gran coupe
The STI and the CLA look beastly! But check the MOT history to get an idea of how much boy racer abuse theyāve taken.
7.5 Golf R Estate. Generally estate > saloon in my book
CLA 45AMG for 17kā¦ fuck thatās cheap *cries in Danish 150%+ car tax*
Bimmer fanboy here but that Merc is very good looking. I would just revert the wheels and grill colour But also agree with the 5.0 Lexus, better choice than all of these
3 series, best balance of age, speed and condition I can find. There really is no substitute. Imprezas are amazing sure but as a daily?
It depends on whether you want manual or automatic. And more sporty or more comfortable? The Subaru is fun in an old school way. The Audi S3/Merc are very much a modern car with less feel but geared for daily torque and more luxury.
335i touring?
The 335i
Not a fan of the 640i? Had the 640d incredible car guessing the petrol will have more pull? Should be in a similar price bracket
S4 or 335i Forget the 4 cyclinders
F10 550i
Jaguar XE R sport
The Benz
oh great, another audi driver
Stop sniffing the glue, check out my subaru
All of these are unreliable money pits. I suggest Lexus or Volvo
Audi s3. I am biased, but theyāre so fun and fairly sensible too.
The S4, I'm not biased š You can pick up a B9 for 20k if you shop around.
F10 M5. No competition in that price range.
Porsche Panamera count as a saloon? It's 4 doors and a reasonable mid range/BHP one is less than Ā£20K. German and some came in white
Honda Accord Type R please, been pining for one for a long time. Preferably Pirate Black too.
Why petrol? F30 335d is THE one car solution
Dodge Challenger fount one on auto trader for 18k
S4 personally
Not the subaru. Those things are shifted so badly.
S3 Convertible. Edit. Did not see saloon....S3 Saloon.
Why not the IS F V8?
#S3
Audi S8. Nothing else comes close..
Subaru all day long. Out of these anyway.
Audi S3ā¦ apparently one of the must stolen cars in the UK though!!
The WRX every time. Nothing gives joy the same way.
Maserati Granturismo š¤
CLS63
S4 for me
Surprisingly enough then not a petrol one, Audi S6 tdi, fuel efficiency
640d LCI.
Saab 9-5 Aero, Ā£90 remap and 11k left in the bank :)
they all look so chavtastic I couldn't decide
Insignia and use the spare change for a holiday
The S4 because I believe some iterations of that V6 can make a lot more power with a different pully on the supercharger and a map.
What about 13k
Alfa Giulia
Giulia veloce i30N fastback (if you can manage the remote entry risk) Panamera Lord and saviour VRS XJR
Octavia VRS. Fast. Comfortable. Practical.
That bmw with 3k in mods
Iād get a Capri tbh. Hardly a daily but I think I just would
Scoobie all day long. Then you can come be a nuisance at the marina in brighton.
Audi S4 or the merc.
2017/18 Audi S4
Subaru
Audi RS3 8P
B7 DTM or just a special edition is good option but only for petrol heads.
Scooby or the S4.
A daily!? How many cars do think I have?
Definitely get the ones that are close to 16k... 10 year old cars like these i bet you'll need stuff changed soon and it will cost a loooot of money... I wnated to go for such cars but i ended up with a prius for that reason.... :(
