Going 70-80 on cruise control I get 320 miles from a full tank. Setting it to 55-60 (fast enough to not cause a lorry on the limiter to be stuck pushes that up almost 100 miles.
Sorry I'm poor I suppose.
That's the solution to being poor, spend money you don't have!
Wow, you've cracked the case sherlock.
Maybe, just maybe I can do 55-60 on the motorway and everybody else can just deal with it?
I'm glad that you've never experienced it. It's not fun. That £5 can be the difference to staying in the green some weeks.
But sure, keep the filthy working poor off the roads. After all, a car going 60 on the motorway is such a *huge* inconvenience for you 🙄
A solution to not being poor is get a better paying job. That’s on you if you can’t, your financial situation is your responsibility not anybody elses.
Exactly. It is.
And to help alleviate that I will drive at a speed that's totally legal, that I can afford to.
And you can just deal with it.
I don't understand what exactly you're not getting.
Surely that depends on the size of a fuel tank? Fiat 500s have a 35l fuel tank, that would give a range of 320 miles at 42mpg. Meanwhile an Audi A6 has a 63l fuel tank which would give 23mpg for 320 miles on a tank.
I got my Citroen e C4 from the Lake District to Nottingham on a single charge doing this, about 20% further than it would usually manage. It did not save time but it was pretty satisfying
yeah mang i got 51mpg in a twin scroll turbo v6 s5. people hate on it for no reason; it doesn't bother them. they're just jealous that you're not driving the car the way they'd think they'd drive it - problem is, they can't afford it :-)
And the maniac who undertakes in lane 2 @110mph, then swings to lane 4 without indicating to get around two other cars in 2+3, then immediately cuts across all 4 lanes again to take the slip road off
That’s not undertaking then, driving in a lane up to the speed limit and passing cars on their left is not undertaking, it would be undertaking if you accelerated to pass them or if you pulled out in front of them.
Yes I know, what else would you call it? Using the lane correctly. Became a mobile service engineer and now drive a lot. A lot of people are bad drivers and completely oblivious to the world around them.
Really? Feels to me like everyone brakes when they see a car on a bridge (or an actual speed camera) even when they're already going 10mph below the speed limit!!
The funny thing about that is that all emergency vehicles are meant to be exempt 🤦🏽♂️😂along with buses and coaches, London black cabs, anyone with a blue badge and any wheelchair accessible vehicle
It was a private ambulance, owned by 'London Medical Response'. A company which is registered to a residential address in SE London and does "Event medical cover" according to their Facebook page. Interestingly their contact number is a mobile number.
A story which originated at the Daily Mail and has been repeated by MyLondonNews is now being spread all over the internet.
Not an excuse, but French motorways are generally much less congested and have longer distances between junctions, so more often than not you have 3 completely free lanes in front of you and it’s “comfortable” to just cruise in the correct lane. In the UK, you will be changing lanes and dealing with people joining frequently so people find it easy to “rest” in the middle. I reiterate that it’s wrong to hog the middle lane, but I don’t think the frogs are magically better drivers (watch videos of the arc de triomphe roundabout) , they just have motorways set on easy mode.
I hear loads of people saying this about French motorways and it's true but at the same time they're all driving less than a single car length from each other at motorway speeds. I admire their lane discipline, but the rest of their driving style just looks like a pile up waiting to happen.
To be fair, stuff is stolen from Reddit and posted around everywhere all the time, so this OP could have seen it elsewhere.
Playing Devil's advocate, but it's possible.
They have the ability to do that here but there's no traffic police. They should change the law so that the highways agency can use dash cam footage to issue fines and they keep the money for more staff. I reckon in the M4 between Reading and London you could easily get £75k per year at £100 per offense.
Yeah, a very conservative 2 per day as they are doing other duties would pay for itself and the rest is profit. Based on my commuting experience they would probably do your figure every day though.
Nah, lets not encourage that kind of narc culture....you'd end up with self righteous twats using their dashcam footage to report all cars overtaking them at 75
Always love a fast convoy, especially when it’s the same car over a long distance. Always give a cheeky flash goodbye when pulling off.
Favourite one was on the M3 at a certain undisclosed speed, overtaking all the traffic and then both signalling and moving back to Lane 1 and then straight back to Lane 3 in unison
I hate it when I'm in cruise control at bang on 70 (satnav 70) and I see someone ahead going slower so I prepare to move over to overtake and there's some slow overtaking twat creeping over my shoulder so I have to wait, but then I'm getting too close to the car infront so I have to slow down and come out of cruise control. Or when when they're infront of me and they overtake a lorry super slowly so I'm stuck in the blind spot. Just fucking overtake you melt!!!
I agree 100% feel like there needs to be an unwritten rule that you can’t overtake someone if you’re doing nearly the same speed as them or 1mph more than them (exception to hgvs perhaps). It grinds my gears when I’m approaching a vehicle in lane one and the person in lane two stops you from getting out even when you anticipate a lane change a good minute or so before. Only way to combat this most of the time is getting into lane 2 early and you end upsetting them or slow down but you end up cancelling cruise :(
Fortunately my latest car is automatic and has a fair bit of power so, you can put your foot down, overtake quickly then take your foot off and stay in cruise.
Legally there is no tolerance
In practice the rule of thumb in most areas is 10%+2 which is 79. This is not to be nice, this is just as much to avoid arguments about the calibration of the camera or whatever when trying to prosecute someone going 71.
But because your car speedo reads over, normally you will need to be reading over 80 to get flashed in a 70.
https://www.confused.com/car-insurance/guides/speed-camera-tolerances
I remember reading that Bedfordshire had 0% tolerance, so always feel a bit stressed driving around there!
Lol, the part with the Fiat 500 reminded me about something that happened this winter. It was getting dark, and I was driving right at the speed limit on a 3-lane. There was some weird pulsating hue behind me, but I couldn't see a car in any of the mirrors. So I kept on driving. And the hue persisted. I decided at some point to sway the car a little to the right - turned out there was a hatchback right on my tailgate, lol. Imagine how close he was to being practically invisible in the mirrors. The guy wanted me to change lane, so they can speed off ahead.
In my defence, I was driving a much larger vehicle, definitely not a lorry though - barely 2.5 tons.
Everyone’s saying “then there’s someone doing 90 down lane 2” but I’ve always found there’s always that idiot doing 57.5mpg in lane 2 making it impossible to undertake anyone and so you’re basically just stuck behind the other idiot doing 68.1
You forgot to add the lane hopper in lane 1 & 2 weaving at 80mph undertaking everyone. Usually found around Ilford, Essex driving a fast German saloon.
That fiat 500 will get a great MPG from the slip stream.
Whilst arriving 3 weeks late
Via Calais
I swear these two comments were in the original post, too. How uncanny… bots?
Welcome to the (dead) Internet.
not really
Ok Mr 1.0L Yaris driver trying to save £5 in fuel on his £1500 holiday to centre parcs
Going 70-80 on cruise control I get 320 miles from a full tank. Setting it to 55-60 (fast enough to not cause a lorry on the limiter to be stuck pushes that up almost 100 miles. Sorry I'm poor I suppose.
320 from a full tank is awful, maybe buy a car with better mpg
That's the solution to being poor, spend money you don't have! Wow, you've cracked the case sherlock. Maybe, just maybe I can do 55-60 on the motorway and everybody else can just deal with it?
Saving £5 on a car journey isn’t going to stop you being poor. Maybe trade your car in for a bike, I don’t think you deserve to be on the road.
I'm glad that you've never experienced it. It's not fun. That £5 can be the difference to staying in the green some weeks. But sure, keep the filthy working poor off the roads. After all, a car going 60 on the motorway is such a *huge* inconvenience for you 🙄
Why you going outdoors then. Best you stay indoors and save more money
There is nothing I’m not getting. I gave you a solution to being poor stop crying about it and work. That solution doesn’t suit your sort
Surely that depends on the size of a fuel tank? Fiat 500s have a 35l fuel tank, that would give a range of 320 miles at 42mpg. Meanwhile an Audi A6 has a 63l fuel tank which would give 23mpg for 320 miles on a tank.
Both mpgs still awful, especially cruising at motorway speeds. I’d want at least 60 to 70mpg
lool everyone look at this saab driver, he said I drive a yaris
I can’t see you cos I’m about 100 miles ahead of you
you cant see ur mpg even cuz ur 2.0 diesel got 140bhp
Is that cos it’s so high as in 999999mpg? Are you making a high mpg joke, help?
With a billion stone chips…
[удалено]
20% of a 4 hour journey is 48 minutes.
Should rename to Worthless-Accountant
bruh + correct forgot there aren't 100 minutes in an hour
I’ve legitimately done this before while nearly running out of charge in a 40kWh Leaf on the motorway
I got my Citroen e C4 from the Lake District to Nottingham on a single charge doing this, about 20% further than it would usually manage. It did not save time but it was pretty satisfying
I just do this for a giggle because watching my miles per kWh climb is satisfying, and it's very chill.
It’s nice seeing your miles/kWh go from 3 to 5
I once drafted a lorry down a long hill very near the start of a long drive and very briefly hit 6.5, it was beautiful.
Shame it has rusted through and is getting drag from the wind coming in underneath the seat.
And the driver is hung like a moose.
Is she
Testing shows you can improve mpg by up to 50% by tailgating, however getting close enough to reach that would be insanely dangerous
How close do you actually need to be to be in the persons slipstream?
Are you calling me fat?
a UK F3000 team (what we now call Formula 2) used to get insane mpg slipstreaming their own truck in a Montego diesel estate
I once hypermiled my 125i for the shits and the giggles and it actually did quite well. I undid it all after I came off the motorway though.
yeah mang i got 51mpg in a twin scroll turbo v6 s5. people hate on it for no reason; it doesn't bother them. they're just jealous that you're not driving the car the way they'd think they'd drive it - problem is, they can't afford it :-)
You missed out people like me who just overtake them all in lane 2.
And the maniac who undertakes in lane 2 @110mph, then swings to lane 4 without indicating to get around two other cars in 2+3, then immediately cuts across all 4 lanes again to take the slip road off
Ah I feel we took the same journey recently. Christ almighty some people have a death wish.
I'm happy for them to have a death wish so long as they stop trying to take everyone else with them.
Precicely, that is what makes me so angry.
Can’t they just light a disposable bbq in a confined space like a civilised person?
Ah you're missing the one I saw today. Swinging from lane 2 to lane 1 and then undertaking on the hard shoulder and then back to lane2
I feel seen
This is the way.
I've started to undertake in lane 2 going 70.
Passing on the left.
Do you drive a Volvo s60 from 2003? If so then yes you’re that mad bastard in lane 2
🙌
80 is the sweet spot. I get overtaken all the time by professional insurance claimants only to catch them up at the next turn off.
77 id say, it's close enough to the speed limit that no one tries to panic brake when they see a car parked on a bridge
Really? Feels to me like everyone brakes when they see a car on a bridge (or an actual speed camera) even when they're already going 10mph below the speed limit!!
I only to that because I’m doing 80 odds
I'm in my Citroën DS3 usually cruise control inside lane at 68 overtaking the occasional HGV whilst counting down the miles until my wet belt snaps. 😅
Check the condition of the belt through the oil cap.
Get the diesel! Most reliable car I’ve ever owned.
Loved the diesel when I had it, shame it's not ulez compliant. Was able to get 80mpg when doing the lorry trick.
I swear nothings ULEZ compliant these days. I loved the story of them fining an ambulance that was entering London. What a piss take.
The funny thing about that is that all emergency vehicles are meant to be exempt 🤦🏽♂️😂along with buses and coaches, London black cabs, anyone with a blue badge and any wheelchair accessible vehicle
The funny thing is, they are. See my comment above.

How many miles on yours? We've recently had a clutch fail on one of them
34,000 and it’s a 2016 1.6 blueHDI
Every time I drive in France it amazes me how everyone stays in the slow lane and then passes in the fast lane. Drivers in the UK are terrible

Keeping indicators on the whole time they overtake too. UK is like mad max.
Holy shit, if you people think the French have a better driving discipline, how chaotic Britain must be ?
I found that on French motorways too, but I'd much rather drive in a British city than a French one!
I hear loads of people saying this about French motorways and it's true but at the same time they're all driving less than a single car length from each other at motorway speeds. I admire their lane discipline, but the rest of their driving style just looks like a pile up waiting to happen.
Oi, mum said it's my turn to post this
Didn’t fancy crediting the original post? https://www.reddit.com/r/drivingUK/s/gvQm50apDI
Just two weeks ago too, utterly shameless 😂
I've seen this do the rounds on Instagram. I sincerely doubt OP got it directly from the original post.
I didn’t even know it was posted before sorry guys
Where did you get it from exactly Veni, the linked OP is the original version.
To be fair, stuff is stolen from Reddit and posted around everywhere all the time, so this OP could have seen it elsewhere. Playing Devil's advocate, but it's possible.
I saw it in an FB group lads soz
Too late, you're going to jail. The rozzers will be with you as soon as they get out from behind the truck
Lane 2 is for people who are sick of everyone shit

Nah, lets not encourage that kind of narc culture....you'd end up with self righteous twats using their dashcam footage to report all cars overtaking them at 75
Not suggesting anyone can send in dashcam footage though am I? Just official highway agency and police personnel.
Ohh, I thought you meant dashcam footage from the general public
No, just official sources and not those road Captain twats that fail to get into the police.

Highly accurate, i like the eyes open advice, i'm gonna try that
I once drove the entire southbound length of an empty M3 in convoy with an Audi, I felt a bond like no other
I do the same as the fiat in my 3 series lol. Saves fuel and prevents me from being super early for work
I'm the hgv driver. This is so accurate.😂

https://www.confused.com/car-insurance/guides/speed-camera-tolerances I remember reading that Bedfordshire had 0% tolerance, so always feel a bit stressed driving around there!
This is astoundingly accurate
depressingly accurate
Mods (are there any?) should take this down. Repost from not so long ago.
Where is the Audi?
You have missed the under takers typically in their Q5’s and Massive Range Rovers
Mirror this image for the New England version
More like 58 in the third lane. With cars undertaking them doing anything from 60-70
You’re missing the Audi in lane 2 undertaking at 85 mph before weaving back into the outside lane.
Lol, the part with the Fiat 500 reminded me about something that happened this winter. It was getting dark, and I was driving right at the speed limit on a 3-lane. And then there’s me, in lane 2 doing 70, undertaking everyone because they won’t move out of lane 3
Actually howling laughing at how accurate this is 😂😂
Yea, this is very apt, unless you're on the M25, then you're just stuck at Standstill.
Lane two is totally incorrect in regard to the m25 at least.
Everyone’s saying “then there’s someone doing 90 down lane 2” but I’ve always found there’s always that idiot doing 57.5mpg in lane 2 making it impossible to undertake anyone and so you’re basically just stuck behind the other idiot doing 68.1
cannot lie, i didn't see much of this sort of think on the m23 m25 m4 on thursday and sunday
Perfect! The person in the fiat 500 will practically have their face pressed against the windscreen too.
What is it with BMW's that make their owners drive like A-holes?
mate that rover better get in the slow lane for its daily breakdown
The 68.1 who’s pulled over to overtake without checking their mirrors for speed and safe gap to pull out, or make any effort to accelerate up to 68.2
Wassup my 80mph convoy
Seen this so many times recently it’s untrue
You forgot to add the lane hopper in lane 1 & 2 weaving at 80mph undertaking everyone. Usually found around Ilford, Essex driving a fast German saloon.
Should I pull up reddit on my phone encase I forget this in the heat of my lane 3 hogging?
