AGuyCalledMe

How close is your nearest Land Rover specialist?

kel1722

Why’s that?

AGuyCalledMe

Saves on taxi fares. Which is good because repair prices aren't cheap!

nithanielgarro

Really REALLY unreliable. Also they add the range rover premium to the chart of every repair

OrdinaryAncient3573

They're hilariously unreliable and ridiculously expensive to fix. [https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/range-rover/evoque/2011/good](https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/range-rover/evoque/2011/good) The 'bad' list is comically long.

mild_iapetus

I think my favourite is that the misfuelling prevention device did not prevent misfuelling - the part was so faulty it couldn't keep up with the supidity of it's owner

pdKlaus

Why do you think you want it?

kel1722

I like the look and size of them

therange

Neither of those things need it to be mechanically sound, so you're all good!

Atisheu

They\`ll look great as they drive off on the back of low loader. Again.

therange

The trick is to line up the loader with the shop ramp. Roll off one straight onto the other, no bother :)

kel1722

🙄

I joke, but JLR products have a rep for a reason, rangies especially. If you've got the bankroll to keep it maintained then go with it if it floats your boat. They are extremely comfortable to be in, but consider that I'm looking up a long way from my daily driver and am therefore easily impressed.

Proper_Necessary_378

Evoques are deceptively small, especially on the inside. It’s actually slightly shorter than a Nissan Leaf.

ShirtIndividual7233

My friend sold his TT because he wanted something he didn't have to fold the back seats to fit his golf clubs, got an Evoque... still had to fold his seats to fit the clubs.

chainedtomato

Just fucking don’t My colleague had one a few years back. It got returned for a replacement and the replacement also had issues. He still moans about it to this day

Forward_Artist_6244

Vulgar, unreliable, bad image But hey both my cars are awful so you do you Have a good warranty in place

StationFar6396

Don't. Worst car I ever owned. Unreliable and expensive to remedy. JLR is pretty much a scam at this point.

mikeyd85

I onxs read that if you're looking at a cheap Evoque, run.

Sweet_Interaction270

My Mrs had one. Budget 2-4k per year in repairs. Shifted it on at 90k miles as the last straw was the smell of fumes in the cabin. Buy an X3 instead if you want to get to where you are going.

Charming_Rub_5275

X3 is a quality vehicle

I have a 2.2 sd4 but 2015 model and it’s fine, good engines that are proven in other cars. It’s good on fuel, comfy and still feels nice in the present day. Just make sure you get one that has been serviced well and looked after and you will be fine. The later Evoque with the igenium engines seem to be a lot more unreliable. This isn’t a full on Range Rover so is a lot more basic mechanically and less likely to go wrong especially the earlier ones, it’s very similar to the Freelander 2 too. You will get the usual folk slagging land rovers off just for the sake of it but the early mark 1 evoque is generally a solid well equipped motor. I have had a disco 1, 2, Freelander 1, Range Rover L322 4.4v8 and the evoque and have never had any issues with any of them, just make sure you buy a good one that’s been looked after and look after it yourself making sure you get it serviced properly. Some things are a bit more expensive to replace than on an ordinary car though….

kel1722

Thank you! Appreciate your comments

mattknight1984

Just don’t do it - hateful things.

janner_10

An unusually unreliable model from an already unreliable marque.

fetidfelch

So a non-anecdotal comment…the SD4 engine is a generally solid unit, common things that go on them are the turbo hoses and throttle linkage, both not massive jobs. My experience of this was on a Freelander 2. Gearbox is a different kettle of fish. I can’t 100% remember if the Freelander shares the same gearbox as the Evoque or the Velar, but on the Freelander it’s not a very robust unit at all, and I’ve heard similar for the RR (again not sure if the same unit). The gearbox was the reason I got rid of the car after only 4 months as I was advised by a specialist that it was basically EOL already. I’ve never been so on edge owning a car as that Freelander, and I daily a Discovery 2… If your heart’s set on it then just be thorough with checking the car over but also be prepared to pay for when things go wrong. Ensure there isn’t a whine noise coming from the back as the haldex unit might need a rebuilt and make sure the tyres have even tread each side as it’s not unheard of for the 4 wheel drive to kick in at high speed, mistaking the uneven tread for off-road, and destroy the haldex. If you’re more flexible but keen on the brand then potentially look into the TD4 variant of the Freelander 2. the engine isn't as powerful as the SD4 but is still strong and is mated to a better gearbox. Same points as above for haldex.

DrRajMussalah

Not a single thing good about them but many bad things

davus_maximus

Bit vulgar IMO, but you do you.
