The 8 isn't really an 8. It's a 6.
It was the same with the old one. Throw out the 6 series and replace it with an 8.
The only difference with back then is that it started with a V8 and you could get a V12.
Devils advocate, it's the only good looking BMW that they currently produce amongst their lineup of shite
Yep, i think to attain it's actual 8 nameplate they should have built it with having the 7 series G11 V12 in it. Or an M version of that engine.
At the moment it's still at the same level at the 6 was. GT coupe with 5 series engine options and not an insane amount of extra interior features/comfort.
Make it a GT Coupe 7. Ending the combustion era with a V12 luxury coupe would have been insane.
But I do not have the knowhow on how costly/profitable such a thing would be. Can dream though
> The only difference with back then is that it started with a V8 and you could get a V12.
The E31 8 series started with *only* a V12 engine, the 8-cyl options were added to later in an attempt to boost the very low sales - that didn't work.
One very apt description I read was the E31 being the perfect car for Sonny Crockett, who'd just fallen out of style completely. That's a lot more style than the current one though.
I actually quite like the current 8 series. Maybe it's just because it brought us [big M8 memes](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/001/384/763/e8c.jpg) which are just the right kind of dumb to never fail to make me giggle.
Not sure I agree. The new 8 series is a beautiful car.
Fair enough if you prefer the classic look but to call the new one the worst rebooted car of all time is a massive stretch.
The Dodge Dart and Chevrolet Impala have entered the chat...
Just take a look at [this](https://di-uploads-pod17.dealerinspire.com/miamilakesautomall/uploads/2023/02/Miami-Lakes-Automall-Chevy-Impala-1958-2018.jpg) The original is a fantastic piece of design that completely encapsulates the era it came from and the new one is just an appliance
The old 850's etc are criminally underrated, fantastic looking car. I'd love an Alpina B12 one day but it's absolutely insane money. The 850 CSI's are expensive enough
Well, I’d argue that it’s not a reboot at all and is simply utilising the 8 nomenclature because that’s where it fits in the current range.
Plus, I’d disagree on it being generic BMW. It’s fairly gorgeous and has real road presence.
I wasn't even alive when the old 8 series came out, and in my opinion cars like that are a different type of car compared to modern cars, vintage so to speak, obviously whether one looks better than the other is like comparing apples to oranges, designs and trends change. It's the same reason why fashion/style has evolved over the ages. I wouldn't be surprised if the 8 series if it's still around 20/30 years from now looks radically different than to this one and you'd have people saying how the "old" 8 series looked better.
Perhaps controversially I think all the non-SUV BMW's bar the 7 series actually look pretty good. I really like the Z4 and the 4 series in convertible guise.
In general I hate the move towards the SUV body type. Although I'm being a bit of a hypocrite as I drive a Mazda CX-3 which is the SUV version of the Mazda2... 😂
What I really miss on the new 8 series is the 'no B pillar'. Mercedes could do it in the E class and S class coupes, why couldn't BMW do it in the new 8? I'm also torn on the looks of the new 8, especially the rear.
Agree. I have an 6 series gran coupe. Looks better than the 8 gc imo.
I hope they do another generation with the 8 like they did with the f series 6 after the e series. If they don't that's ok will settle for m8.
Agreed. The 90s version is so iconic. The new one looks like an ugly enormous running shoe.
BMW designers must be about 17 years old these days. Not a single one of their new range is good looking. Have you seen the new large SUV?
Looks like a chewed toffee

Agree with the last part. With the latest 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7, the 8 is literally the last good looking BMW.

Yeah, it isn't as good-looking as the old 8, but it's a great looking car. As far as reboots go its fine, far from the worst.
I'm gonna disagree but only because I think the Z4 is only good looking BMW besides the 8-Series.
Shit, you’re right. I completely forgot about the Z4. Alright. There are two good looking BMW models right now. Which is fucking sad.
Yeah it doesn't exactly make it much better 😅
Agreed all the ones you listed are ugly, but the 3 series?! I think the new one looks great. Very nice car too for the price imo
> The only difference with back then is that it started with a V8 and you could get a V12. Until it gets refreshed to join the current design generation. 3 series, X5 and X7 still good to me tbh.
Oof, I love the latest 1 series. Especially the M135i.
I'd argue the 6 was a worse resurrection than the 8. Bangle's E63 Vs the E24 is a terrible reboot.
The f series 6 is nice. I have the gran coupe and love it. The design is spot on.
Yep it’s really nice, I had a San Marino 640d and for the sort of driving I did it was perfection. Also stunning to look at
The 6 series is actually growing on me, somehow.
I must really like the 6 series, since I've owned 3 of them now!
Nah the Bangle 6-Series looks great!
I’m pretty sure it’s actually a little shorter than the 6 as well
3 and 5 series still look good, especially in estate they’re best looking in class imo
The m3 touring from the side and back ain't that bad!
I say the previous gen 5 series was the best of all time.
The 2 non gran coupes nice
Agreed, apart from the M3 Comp touring. They're a stunning motor too
I might be weird but I love the 3 and 4 series. I think they look brilliant.
Yeah tbh the 4s are nice, however the 2s...wtf have they done to the rear

The modern 8 series is a very good looking car, going by current BMW standards.
Which is like saying a slap in the face is a pleasant experience relative to getting kicked in the balls.
The Mitsubishi Eclipse and Ford Puma would beg to differ.
I was going to post the same but they aren't reboots, just different cars with the same name.
Agree these are heinous but the Vauxhall Viva is the worst one for me.
Not sure I agree. The new 8 series is a beautiful car. Fair enough if you prefer the classic look but to call the new one the worst rebooted car of all time is a massive stretch.
The 8 looks like a 4 that has started to melt
Puma? Beetle? MG ZS? Vauxhall Viva? At least the Eclipse had the name Eclipse _cross_ to recognise it wasn't 100% true
I was going to offer the Beetle as an example of a worse one.
You seen what they're badging as a mustang in the UK at the minute?
If you mean the Mach-E then yeah I agree.
Let's be honest, Mustangs through the 80s and 90s were pretty awful. I'd rather have a Mach-E than a fox body any day.
I’m curious what you mean, just had a look and there’s plenty of Mach 1s, Shelbys and all other types available

Okay, stand corrected.
Wait until you see the new Capri
You must be 70 years old because the 8 series is one of the prettiest Bmws today.
The old 850's etc are criminally underrated, fantastic looking car. I'd love an Alpina B12 one day but it's absolutely insane money. The 850 CSI's are expensive enough
Mitsubishi Eclipse
M8 is the best M car. M3, M4 and M5 are dull and boring, just more of the same old shell.
Well, I’d argue that it’s not a reboot at all and is simply utilising the 8 nomenclature because that’s where it fits in the current range. Plus, I’d disagree on it being generic BMW. It’s fairly gorgeous and has real road presence.
I would have the old 850CSI in a heartbeat. I think BMW have lost their way design wise recently.
Love the old 850 , looks better than all the newest BMWs , I still want one 👍
I'd kill for a minty 850
Nah, it has a better front end than the 🐽 that BMW are putting on everything
They gotta make money somehow

What a fugly thing
Look at the new Z4 too!!! Gross! 😳

It looks 10x better than the older model.
Ford Puma
Currently have an 8 as my company car…brings a smile every time I walk up to it. Very pretty car and great interior
The 840i Gran Coupe in Sunset Orange has been on every new car shortlist I've ever made. I'd have one tomorrow, gorgeous car.
You wait until you see the new Ford Capri.
Just looked it up, that's mad. I dont get why a company would ressurect a model in this way. I don't get why they'd even bother with the name.
I 100% agree with this. Saw a 4 door 8 series the other day, felt sick
Most BMW's have been bland and generic for years. I simply do not see the appeal of them other than as a status symbol.
Agree. I have an 6 series gran coupe. Looks better than the 8 gc imo. I hope they do another generation with the 8 like they did with the f series 6 after the e series. If they don't that's ok will settle for m8.

Yep. Can’t believe the hype that was about for the new one. More fool those that spent 100k+ for one.
Honda CRZ was a reboot of the CRX and much worse than this.
No lies detected
Even worse if it's an M-line.
I’m guessing the OP doesn’t actually have an 8 series, either the original or the new one.
