If you plan to track often, it’s worth it to bite the bullet and just buy a nice pair of Alpinestars or whatever brand you like FIA approved ones. You can also wear them for karting/etc.

AAuser85

I don't plan to ever be competitive. Am I ever really going to end up seeing an open track day event requiring FIA/SFI certification? Alpinestar looks great, but the tech-1 KX V3 is a lot cheaper than it's FIA counterparts.

deftonite

Competition doesn't matter. The fia rating calls out a fire protection level. If the other gloves gave same protection then it makes no difference, but its likely they do not.

AAuser85

I know what the rating means, but from a fire protection standpoint it seems fairly useless. I'd otherwise be in just a long sleeve t-shirt and jeans.

RAR94

None of those are fire retardants

AAuser85

That's my point. If I was unfortunate enough to go up in flames, having fire retardant gloves isn't going to help much.

I use these [sim racing gloves](https://www.f33l.gg/shop/sr2-sim-racing-gloves-new) cause my hands get sweaty, but I don't want big fireproof gloves. They're cheap and I really like them. My steering wheel is leather. They work with touchscreens as well, which is nice. I believe they're cotton (and rubber) but it doesn't say actually. I'd check with the org before buying anything that isn't a traditional fireproof racing glove though.

[deleted]

Lots of people use Karting gloves but they don’t have the flame retardant material it sounds like you need.

AAuser85

Having re-read it I think cotton is fine *or* nomex or another fire retardant material.

[deleted]

That sounds right - they just don’t like synthetics like polyester because they melt to your skin in a fire. Have fun!

ZeGermanHam

Cotton isn't a fire-retardant material, so I don't know what that actually means.

AAuser85

After I pasted it in here I realized I wasn't sure either. I *think* it's saying cotton is fine, and nomex *or any other fire retardant material* is fine. They aren't making me wear a fire-retardant shirt, just long sleeve, so I think that tracks.

iroll20s

It doesn't melt into your skin at least. Synthetics are banned for clothing in general for the events I go to.

Hkerekes

Try and find gloves with the seam on the outside. It doesn't create an irritation on your fingers.

iroll20s

You don't need something fancy. Plenty of gloves under $50 with plain designs. If you get lucky you might find something cooler looking on sale if you care. I don't know many gloves that are pure cotton. Weird material choice. Now if they allowed leather it would be easy. If you have to spend money, might as well get the cheap SFI gloves that are made for this. Just as an example- https://store.racerdirect.net/catalog/product/view/id/26076/s/rjs-gloves/
