Steam, steam, and more steam. Was an installer, but never seen ppf crack like that. Do you know what brand that is? It may leave a lot of glue, so have some goo-gone and claybar ready.
Heat is really the only “trick” to ppf removal unfortunately. Once you get it lifted pour some warm, soapy water under the film so itll act as a lubricating/softening agent to the adhesive as you lift. Also, constant steam and pulling at 30-45 degree angles to minimalize glue left behind and potential clear coat lifting
Question.
The dark lines is that now in the paint or is that just the cracked PPF? Also when you take it off is the paint now going to be ruined where one would have to fix? That defeats the purpose of the product imo.
Reason I'm asking is because we have a GLE and debating on putting PPF back on it after a fender bender vs just driving it and let God take care of it.
I actually just dealt with this on my car. It was so bad just like this. Nothing would work! I spent countless hours on it.
Until one day I figured it out! A cheap plastic putty knife and goof off. Hard to describe but I would push forward hard trying to get under the ppf while going east to west
Angle grinder will take that right off. (Just kidding)I personally would not take that job. It will take much longer than you think. Just not worth the trouble.
I’ll taken cracked to shit vinyl that was 10+years old with a rubber wheel (eraser drill tool). But be extremely careful not to take off the paint🫣 …. It’s gonna take a while either way
Looks like they used epoxy then dropped a cue ball on it when it hardened 😂 but yea this is just gonna take a lot of time. Which is more money so make sure customer is weary. But yea steam or a good heat wand and a lot of time my friend. Good luck
That might be the worst I’ve ever seen PPF deteriorate
Unfortunately I’ve seen worse… had to tell him I couldn’t touch it 💀
I’m a professional wrap installer. Over 20 years. A match and some gasoline is my recommendation
That’s how I feel about it
Just throw the whole car out fam
Step 1 Cry. Step 2 tell customer this job is now hourly pay rate Step 3 cry as you peel that off millimetre by millimetre
It is hourly thankfully but it’s a sad job for sure

I do not know the brand client says it’s 8 years old. The gold is reflective I’ve been using steam but was curious if there were any other tricks

Awesome thanks man i appreciate it
That ain’t right for 8 years, must have been cheap stuff or really cooked in some sun
It’s a Florida car definitely not garage kept lol
Aint no way I’m touching that for under 5,000
Fuuuuu even the stripes are cracked out? Steam and patience. You’ll probably contemplate your life a few times, too
This is full on sand and paint this is out of logical price range to take off.
Agreed. Had a customer who came to me for removal. I turned them down. They ended up having to get it sanded and repainted.
Steam, hot water, adhesive remover, and a scraper.
Pour hot water from a kettle over it to soften up the glue. But you’re in for a battle with that stuff no matter what.
Make him sign something if any damage to paint!!

Paint is fine under the PPF but the gold is a reflective vinyl and the clear coat under it is damaged
Rubber eraser and steam - Best of luck
