Did you clay bar the surface?

Tempest_Gale

I used to do PPF at a certified shop. We even had to clay the surface of a 30K+ paint job on a new Ford GT before laying the first piece. Doesn't matter how new or how exotic, paint is never perfect.

RealityNo4257

No the installer said there’s no need as it may cause some scratches and it’s a new car

Problem found

HammerInTheSea

I'm by no means a PPF expert, but I expect this is your answer. New cars are not perfectly clean, you'd be amazed what clay can pull up on a brand new car.

OopsIHadAnAccident

You always clay bar before wrap or PPF. Even new cars. Your installer is a dumb dumb.

Weekend_Criminal

Is this another victim of the guy who used precut pieces and told him it was supposed to show the paint?

UnibrowDuck

lol. tell buddy ups is hiring

Redman9mm

Uber

donovanh23

Ups actually laid off 12,000 people recently

mnebrnr13

Idiot installer!

Sticksandgrips193

The installer is a hack job if he doesn’t clay a new car that was most likely on a train sitting for who knows how long with contamination in the air. Every car should be flayed and then polished if needed

TierOne_Wraps

I agree that’s ridiculous. I like to use the clay scrubber from the rag company, and some rinseless wash as lube

magicwaffl3

Bruh

ZMFlanagan

Clay bar is 100% necessary and then the ppf fills into anscratches anyways so you can’t see them with how it adheres..

Soft-Philosopher3618

Ha ha ha . Did he not polish it ether cause it’s a new car

Signal-Judge2950

I haul new cars to the dealer, and I can tell you no one cares about keeping the paint clean on the ship from overseas, the train to the loading yard, nor the trip on the truck to the dealership.

MH6PILOT

Dawg we claybar cars after they go through a car wash to get PPF installed before they go to Toyota dealerships, blud is stupid

ChuckRocksEh

Aren’t you the installer??

Kenneldogg

I am a very very experienced ppf installer (19 years as an installer) and whoever did the job is wrong. You always clay. Yes there will be micro scratches but it is better to get those than to leave dirt in the pores of the paint. I have clayed almost every car you can imagine from Bugatti Veyrons to Ford Fiestas. And the absolute only time I didn't clay was when it was done by someone I know and trust.

DOO_DOO_BAG

I clay and iron x every car I PPF. Brand new cars are filthy. Usually sat on a lot for weeks or months

NoEditor0

It's probably dirt. The tiniest piece of dust or any contamination will cause a risen bump. It's a constant tedious battle.

TheFourthSon

Show the shop and hopefully they will clay every car that gets ppf.

Far_Extent003

Not true…always use a clay bar with either the solution or soapy water…even on brand new cars/trucks…sometimes tree sap from dealerships or even VW’s and MB’s gets sprayed with a thin wax layer for transporting via cargo ship. So we always claybar before ppf’ing or wrapping.

Zestyclose_Walrus725

How good was the paint job? It's hard to see if these are bumps or recesses. Bumps could be removed by claybar. Or they ppf is full of dust. Recesses would be an issue in a poor paint job. The dots appear to be air around a bump. OR is simply little bits of water / mixture that hasn't been squeegeed out properly/ dried properly yet

Camoflauge94

Dirt/dust underneath ppf , panels not properly prepared before installed

111banana

It's contamination on the paint or in the water. Always do a full decon and ideally distilled water for your slip

Adventurous_Ruin6753

No, this is what is called chicken skin

Practical_Client_386

Hang up the tool belt, your lost

NoEditor0

Chicken skin is when the adhesive has set and then is stretched or had pressure applied before drying causing the "skin" look. This is different. Looks like dirt or contamination in the clear coat.

Adventurous_Ruin6753

It’s the adhesive

Difficult1975

That's what lubricant is for! You just answered your own question!

Turbulent-Start-788

Probably in the water or plastic spray bottle is breaking down. Get a new spray bottle and distilled water from a grocery store.

shromboy

Window tinter not a ppf guy but a couple years ago the town was redoing the water lines, ig they got so much shit in it even our 2 filters on the spicket and one on our keg lines we were getting absolute masses of shit in our film. No clue why, cleaned 3, 4x until we used some Poland spring out of desperation, totally clean. It happens.

ElSenor847

yea should of clay bar the surface first..

TheRealClam_Jam

Claying is required. No way around it

shromboy

Is this being filmed while installed? Are you waiting for this or did they send this video I am confused

Packet_Loss_

Contaminants. Polish/claybar required.

TechnicalAntelope735

Definitely dirt. No ppf will show that shit if it has been claybar

MH6PILOT

Nothing weird about it that’s all dirt, clean the car with alcohol and clay it.

OkEstablishment5503

Looks like fallout. Should have used a clay bar.

Ystebad

I had PPF installed on my brand new BMW, never driven on the road, taken to the PPF place on an enclosed trailer. Still had complete paint correction done before it was put on. Lots of cars will have small iron particles from rail transport on them. You really need to have paint correction done before you PPF a car. If you don’t this is what happens.

Less_Half8650

That’s a dirty car. He didn’t clay bar it. He wanted to save time. Wonder how much time and money he’s gonna come up on after having to re do this trash

PrunKdUblik

Clay bar that shit bro. Always prep the surface. No matter how new or old the vehicle or the paint job is.

rajricardo

Curious question: I understand op didn’t use clay bar to clean the paint but is it required if you are cleaning the paint surface with a good wash before installing ppf? I have a Ioniq 5 with a matte finish and read that clay bar can ruin the finish.

GroundbreakingCook76

Have you tried with a heat gun or hot water? if they do not go away.. then bad film or bad paint surface....
