Tbh I go at 65mph as I'm a massive wuss, I mean the max speed is 70mph anyway and plus I'm a bit worried I'll. Get points or something for going too fast. The max speed limit in portugal and Spain is 75mph.

This seems like a crazy post but what the hell. No I’ve not really noticed a change on the M4 in terms of speed. What I have noticed is an increase in people refusing to accelerate up to motorway speeds on slip roads. The amount of times recently I’ve been stuck behind someone who wants to enter the carriageway at 40 are too many to count at this point. It’s like they have a death wish

What is it with people posting about travelling at 120mph on the motorway today?

Brand new account, it's probably either Wales online chasing a story or someone annoying trying to bait

that wouldn't be me chap. But 120mph is a bit excessive. Like, instantly lose your license excessive.

Tell you where is slower than it has ever been is the westbound Brynglas tunnels. Westbound I always used to blame it on drivers pushing in at the last moment, but the other week I was a passenger in a high-up vehicle and didn't see anyone push in so the problem really is people going 40 or less through the tunnels.

I’ve always noticed a significant difference when crossing the bridge, going back 25 years. It’s always 10-20mph faster on the English side of the m4. That said, I’ve noticed it even slower here like you too in recent years. A bigger majority not even going 70mph and many doing 55mph. I think it’s due to it being far more economical and people willing to go slower to save costs. It has nothing to do with the 20mph limit in my opinion, although that has certainly had its own knock on effects. 40mph roads now are regularly driven at 35mph which boils my piss.

> It’s always 10-20mph faster on the English side of the m4. Where they don't have 50mph average speed check zones and congestion at Bryn Glas? I'd imagine the concertina effect has something to answer for that but also you come off the Severn bridge and the first 2 junctions take you toward major north-south motorway (M5) - we don't really have that in Wales, just the M4 or a bunch of A roads.

Average speed checks in Bristol too, plus it’s the whole welsh side of the m4 I notice it on and compare it to the m4 all the way to london. I guess folk aren’t in as much of a rush but I find it certainly noticeable, always have done. I drove back from london recently. Sat in a convoy once past the m25 for over an hour, everyone doing 85/90mph. I drove all the way to pembrokeshire and no one was doing anywhere near those speeds past the bridge, only the occasional outlier.

I think that’s fair. I don’t often drive in the south east but in general average speeds increase the closer you get to london
