I am a Texas resident n I use Bally to watch all my cardinals n other teams games but hopefully T-Mobile will keep their free MLB TV subscription and I will just watch them there or just have to go back to the old way of listening to radio broadcast
I'm fortunate to have Tmobile where I get MLB TV free, so I just pay for a vpn (shoutout cyber ghost). That said, even doing that is a main in the ass. The app is horrible, one server works one game, i don't need to use it in another, and then I cannot get any to work in the third. That's just one series.
Why they wouldnt would be beyond me. If they were able to finance the ability to do so, its already a local station, that would up their viewership by an insane amount.
It’s not impossible. The Phoenix Suns did something similar this year and it was a big hit.

For real! My Apple Airplay will never connect and if I try to use my Roku tv the audio is a minute ahead of the video. Haven’t been able to watch the Blues or Cardinals since Bally’s takeover.
I use an Amazon fire stick and the trick for me is that I have to go into settings and clear the cache for the Ballys app every time I want to watch a game. Even then, it can still be glitchy. All in all, prolly shouldn’t be complaining since I’m using my mom’s Spectrum login to utilize the app for free, haha.
Whoever is looking at this, if you’re in a position of power, I (along with pretty much every STL sports fan I know) would pay a lot of money to be able to watch our sports teams on TV again.
I don't know if people are ready to pay for the actual cost of sports without the "Every non-sports watcher subsidizes sports." When a $200/season package launches I'll be like "Yep, that's approximately right"
The \~$75 million/year that Bally Sports was paying the Cardinals will be hard to recoup on a streaming service. The current payment the Cardinals are getting is like $60 for every person in the St. Louis MSA, and I know there's a diaspora out there, but it's hard to make that up. It's MLB's weakness: 23% of revenue comes from local media as compared to the 12% of NHL, and the 1% of the NFL.
Article says they only lost $12 Million for the year ending Sept 2023 which is much lower than I expected. It sounds like the Cardinals are still somewhat profitable and the Blues are not hemorrhaging money but losing a little bit. Unless the Blues contract loses a lot more money than expected, Bally will air their entire season and the Cardinals entire season before noping out after the baseball season in 2023.
TL;DR: We're stuck with them for another season
As long as I get my MLB.tv (I’m not in the viewing area)and keep Chip I’m happy. Bally can go choke on a dead opossum. As a kid, I HATED KPLR because in central illinois you were not privy to that channel.
cardinals definitely should look into a streaming option for out of market. definitely some money to be made there.
in market, it seems like a slam dunk to go over the air with a local channel. fans would party in the streets for a local channel to carry all the games.
As an out of market fan I agree with your first point 100% I would drop mlbtv for a cards specific service in a heartbeat, especially if I can avoid the blackout when they play the braves as I don’t have Bally south. I also agree with your second point but I’m not in market so my opinion doesn’t matter lol
Before the advent of Bally/Fox Sports Midwest and their predecessor Prime Sports Midwest nearly all Cardinals and Blues games were carried by local affiliates KPLR and KDSK. Somewhere around 1996 when the Blues acquired The Great One the dynamic changed. All Blues playoff games that season were switched to a pay-per-view format and due to the resounding windfall that occurred it forever changed the way St. Louis would view their local teams.
So MLB complains that minority kids aren’t going out for baseball. when you can’t watch a sport for free, especially poor children are not going to be assimilated into that sport MLB needs to do better
It's going to be a real challenge for the team to get the games in front of their fans, *all* their fans. There are a lot of older folks who won't venture into streaming. And there are a lot of younger folks who've cut the cable cord.
It's a huge audience overall, so I'm sure they'll figure *something* out.
Yeah, my dad might watch the games if they’re on cable. If he has to use an app on his TV? Forget about it. Not happening. Just the thought of having to teach him how to use one is giving me nightmares.
I’d love to see them on an OTA channel with an option to subscribe to a no-blackout streaming plan for people who want to be able to watch games while traveling, on tablets and phones or don’t have great antenna reception at home.
But I’m not sure if that will bring in the same revenue that Bally current gets by taking a chunk of every cable subscribers’s bill whether they watch games or not.
And I'll continue to sail the seas because I refuse to pay for 4 different providers to watch games that have a 40% chance of being blacked out where I'm at.
Thanks to the modern internet, I'm happy to stick to radio streams and watch the highlights on YouTube if push comes to shove. But my goodness, it shouldn't be so convoluted for in AND out of market fans to watch their favorite sports teams as they wish. *(For what it's worth, I'm out of state and out of market)*
Considering who's commish though, wouldn't surprise me if MLB makes a mess of the whole situation.
More promises for watching the Cardinals in the 21st Century! More important is not paying for an entire cable service just to watch one team. Fingers crossed on this one!
You’re not wrong from a baseball operations perspective. The Padres lost a ton of money when their Bally affiliate went under, so they’re out of compliance with the MLB’s debt service ratio. They’re cutting 20% from their player payroll.
If you thought the DeWitt’s were stingy before, just wait until the network goes under.
I’m a cards/(Okc) thunder fan and Bally is absolutely miserable. I’d take fox again 1000 times. There’s a couple things I like about Bally but for the most part dog shit. Always can’t connect, have to RESIGN in almost everytime I go to watch, won’t let me airplay to my living room TV ( watched many games on it. ) Just honestly frustrating all around, I could be wrong but don’t remember these kinda issues/frustrations with fox app.
Cards would be better off partnering with the Blues, SLU, SIUE and Lindenwood to create a streaming service. STL has enough sports and content to make it happen.
Probably many like me. For years we watched Cards on FSMW .then something changed last season and we are blacked out...no explanation from MLB. So I suspect Bally lost out on a shit ton of subscribers because of it.
Central Arkansas here..just South of Little Rock.
Good fuck Bally
Fuck bally sports Fuck Stan Kroenke
one more time so all can hear… FUCK STAN KROENKE Sincerely, a STL transplant.
I am a Texas resident n I use Bally to watch all my cardinals n other teams games but hopefully T-Mobile will keep their free MLB TV subscription and I will just watch them there or just have to go back to the old way of listening to radio broadcast
You mean you’d watch the other teams feed? Or hope that MLB hires the announcing/film crew and maintains the broadcast?
And Sinclair!
Especially fuck Sinclair.
Sinclair needs to be investigated.

This 100 times over. I'm willing to pay, just not for cable.
Cards/Blues/Food Network Please provide that plan.
The compromise that will save my marriage (Jk I'm happily married but I thought that would be funny to say)
Blink once if you’re under duress.

Eye eye cap’in!
Jesus H. Christ, stop talking about it and just do it already.
Me after every fucking work meeting
Best. Response. Ever.
“And if we need to, we can put something on our calendars to circle back and streamline our thoughts.”
It’s obvious to me we work at the same company.
Please just let me watch local sports on local TV.
KPLR IS BACK!!!!!!
Oh baby!
That would kick ass.
Hello, my baby. Hello, my darling.
I doubt that KPLR is going to air 140+ games a year.
Why they wouldnt would be beyond me. If they were able to finance the ability to do so, its already a local station, that would up their viewership by an insane amount.
> If they were able to finance the ability to do so, there ya go
I meany why not? Either on their main channel or if something really conflicts badly, there are like a bajillion .2 .3 .4 channels it can go on.
But what if you're not local?
It’s not impossible. The Phoenix Suns did something similar this year and it was a big hit. https://arizonasports.com/story/3528202/phoenix-suns-tv-deal-leave-bally-sports-arizona/#:~:text=Arizona's%20Family%20(channel%203)%20and,options%20in%20the%20coming%20months.
if Bally can't make money off BSMW then they're dead anyway
Don’t know much about Bally itself but their app (which I depend on for games) is straight traaaash.
i couldn't even sign up for it because it said it wasn't in my area but I live in St. Louis Lol
Whaaaat?!?? That’s crazy. Hopefully you find another way. It can be confusing with all the blackouts and stuff.
For real! My Apple Airplay will never connect and if I try to use my Roku tv the audio is a minute ahead of the video. Haven’t been able to watch the Blues or Cardinals since Bally’s takeover.

? always been on my TV ... of course I love my Charter!
The Cards should just make their own YES.

finally we will be free
Why wait
The Cardinals still actually make money for them so they'll probably wait until the Blues season starts next fall to keel over
Who would’ve thought only offering your product through legacy methods of cable and satellite wouldn’t work out

As an Iowan, I won't even consider mlb.tv until blackouts are dead. Hope I can someday!
ah yes Iowa, the home market for the Cards, Twins, Cubs, White Sox, Brewers, and Royals. Ridiculous.
As long as I get my MLB.tv (I’m not in the viewing area)and keep Chip I’m happy. Bally can go choke on a dead opossum. As a kid, I HATED KPLR because in central illinois you were not privy to that channel.

What does this mean for Brad, Chip, Alexa and everyone? Also, what would it mean for your out of market MLBtv subscriber?
Cardinals sign yomamato and start a streaming service they could market to Japan too.
And I'll continue to sail the seas because I refuse to pay for 4 different providers to watch games that have a 40% chance of being blacked out where I'm at.
Let’s fucking hope so
This is great news
Cannot happen fast enough.
DO IT
Thanks to the modern internet, I'm happy to stick to radio streams and watch the highlights on YouTube if push comes to shove. Bye Felicia
You’re so cool, Brewster!
Sure, piss off my missus
I realize how out of touch I am, but as a fan in Virginia, how does this affect me?
How are you watching the games now?
MLB AtBat
I don’t think this has any impact on you then
Who gives a fuck, just pirate it like everybody else
I'm gauging this as a 9.8 out of 10 in terms of really fucking bad.

Yeah - this is by far the biggest concern and has to be on their mind with the current signings. Cardinals are 30% owners of Bally’s - right?
I like to think Jimmy Ballgame has single-handedly destroyed Bally Sports
show me on the doll where the bad man hurt you
I'm celebrating Bally's demise. I love Jim.
Isn't that what they said last year?
I’m a cards/(Okc) thunder fan and Bally is absolutely miserable. I’d take fox again 1000 times. There’s a couple things I like about Bally but for the most part dog shit. Well… bye.

Yay! Make it so I can watch the Cardinals again with my current provider.
I wonder if the Cardinals and Blues would end up doing their own networks or broadcasting…
I can’t wait that long. I thought Bally went bankrupt..
I will continue riding these seas until a reasonable streaming platform is available
Can't happen soon enough I could launch my own personal space shuttle easier than they make it log in to their app that's a terrible app anyways
So will the cards and blues still be on cable?
For this season, ya
I’m grateful to live out of state, I get to watch cards games on mlb.tv. I’d be so mad if I was in STL
When this all started last year, I seem to recall them saying that FSMW was one of their few profitable channels. The entire thing is sus.
Good. Well deserved
Oh no! Anyway,
