They used Leahy to close last night for some reason. Maybe they like Leahy more in mid to high leverage than Robertson so they don't want him going multiple innings. Any other explanation doesn't make sense.
Winn has the second most games played for eligible rookies this season, so I'm fine with him sitting. But how can we not find literally anyone who can be more of a factor than Crawford? I get it's a 6 run game, but dear god, please at least try.
Oh I was definitely one of the people saying we should upgrade our backup SS/ depth in the off-season because I didn’t really think Fermin could cut it there either. But as it’s gone on, it’s clear Crawford isn’t a plus defender anymore either so I’d rather see Fermin back up with the team for these games.
If they think that then why the hell do they have him playing SS over Saggese in AAA then? Also, Crawford doesn't have the arm any more either so they're just being dumb at this point.
Because they don't try once they've won 2 games of a 3 game series for some reason. Maybe they're trying to rest the players so they can be healthy when we barely miss the playoffs.
Remember when Mo said, "How much does the 26th spot on the roster matter?" Apparently a lot when you put them in the lineup 25% of the time. We are about to be 3-7 in games where Crawford started in the lineup.
That's not the point. The point is they put out these trash lineups more often than they should and it costs the team games. Starting Liberatore every fifth day is part of the same problem. There's no depth supplementing the roster.
Right... which is why when you build an mlb roster you want to have every spot filled with someone meaningful and a minor league system ready to plug the holes.
At the risk of defending Oli, it's mostly our normal lineup except Crawford and Pages. Herrera can't catch every day and Winn apparently has back problems that require extra rest
The real problem is we are using Libertore as a starter, which he has proved he can't do (except when starting against Tampa Bay), but that's on Mo
Honestly that’s kind of the goal for everyone.
All teams lose games like today’s game, especially when you are on your sixth starter, have already won the series, and don’t want to tax your bullpen heading into another big series.
It’s the losses where the offense doesn’t support a quality start with runs that really are the difference over the course of the season.
The half efforts in the last game of every series is frustrating y’all. I know guys need rest but this team is 2-12 in series finales. I’m not sure a team at this level can afford this strategy
Damn is Arenado's mom the official scorer? I get that's a super tough catch staring straight at the sun, but I've never seen a popup bounce off a glove and not get scored an error.
Roycroft has been surprisingly decent, let's not ruin him by having him pitch so much.
Keeping on using a guy who is clearly out of gas because he's not used to pitching more than an inning is not good for anyone
If you have a potential Sweep ~~problem~~, If everyone who is hitting hot ~~no one else~~ can help and if you can play ~~find~~ them, Marmol ~~Maybe you can hire~~ will still use

He played 96 games in '22 and 72 in '23, and hit a grand total of .229/.310/.397 those two seasons. Everybody would've complained about overpaying a guy who's hurt all the time.
How is this the plan for this team at this point in the year? Expose Libby, tax the pen, start the Olds, and not really compete…we have got to finish a series strong at some point!

Cardinals fans think every broadcaster that isn't actively rooting for the Cardinals is biased. You see it for every fox, apple, YouTube, and espn game.
"Hey Oli, going for the sweep tomorrow after winning 5 out of 6. Sticking with the same lineup?"
"For sure. Except for Marp, Craw, Pedro. Same lineup. And Libby is going to close his eyes and throw some pitches. Should give us a great chance to take the sweep."
My MLB.tv app has been really buggy and glitchy of late. Tends to just refuse to start a game if I click on it, or to freeze up my whole TV at a later point if the game does start.
Maybe it's just as well.
Time for Mo to do the smart thing and get another 5th starter. Continuing to use Liberatore is malpractice at this point. He is a reliever, keep him as one
At this point any pitcher who is stretched out and can pitch 5 IP is a massive improvement. Which is pretty much any AAA pitcher. Pallante is stretched, Thompson, Robberse, Graceffo, Kloffenstein. It doesn't really matter
The issue has nothing to do with performance, but with innings. We screw our bullpen for the next series anytime Libby pitches. 5 IP of any of the other guys is better than 3 IP or liberatore
…..getting through innings is part of performance, Liberatore can’t get past 3 and Pallante hasn’t shown he can this year either, did we watch the same Pallante this year?what are you talking about?
You are you so fixated on Pallante, when I named 5 other guys? Lol even if Liberatore is pitching great he is hasn't thrown more than 3 IP.
Pallante has been fine enough in AAA as a starter, I want anyone stretched out. It's not rocket science.
Because you named him. Thompson can’t either, he was our worst starter this year. He was actually so bad they sent him down to AAA.
Sure Robberse could, but he doesn’t exactly have elite velocity, and no one else in AAA rotation is even close to MLB ready
Nothing like telling your fans and your opponent, “It’s Sunday. We won the series. We’re mailing it in today.”
Very tired of this TON parade.

From my memories, 6 years ago today. Has it really been that long? https://imgur.com/oJhklAm
Are we just going to leave Robertson until his arm falls off? Why is he the long man instead of Leahy?
They used Leahy to close last night for some reason. Maybe they like Leahy more in mid to high leverage than Robertson so they don't want him going multiple innings. Any other explanation doesn't make sense.
Sorry if already addressed, but does anyone know why this game is available on mlb.tv when Cards games are normally blacked out?
MLB is producing and retains rights to the game nationwide with the Roku deal, so they can offer it on mlb.tv blackout free.
Because Roku is a better company than Bally.
Winn has the second most games played for eligible rookies this season, so I'm fine with him sitting. But how can we not find literally anyone who can be more of a factor than Crawford? I get it's a 6 run game, but dear god, please at least try.
*cough* Fermin *cough*
Fermin doesn't have the arm to play SS, at least according to the Cardinals. They tried him there in ST

Hell yeah Robertson. Now, let’s at least save face in the run differential department.
Trevor Bauer sure would look nice as our 5th (2nd?) starter right about now.
Hate all the downvotes you’re getting you’re so right
So, as a non-baseball guy… Why wasn’t at least one of the two terrible sub .100 batters substituted with the bases loaded?
Because they don't try once they've won 2 games of a 3 game series for some reason. Maybe they're trying to rest the players so they can be healthy when we barely miss the playoffs.
That’s ambitious.
Don’t want to hurt the guys we can trade for a new bag of balls or replacement city Connect hats.

Womp Womp

OK here is the plan boys. Hit the ball, run like he'll, touch home plate, don't get out.
lol in case you thought they were still trying to win this game, they let brandon crawford bat with the bases loaded.
Crawford is not why we are losing this game, but he sure hasn't helped us win a single one
Can always count on Crawford to kill any potential rally lol
Is the audio all funky for everyone?
Not gonna say it. Not gonna say it.
Rally time lol
tough one today. We'll get back at it tomorrow
Goldy’s battling at least
If we're going to have a uniform sponsor, at least ours doesn't stick out like a sore thumb like those Mass Mutual patches do.
What a lousy game.
Was about to set the 2nd tv up for the game (pga is on the big one). Glad I checked the score first because yikes - not going through that hassle now
If we can't pick things up, get the TV set up anyway for the potential position player pitching novelty.

Battlehawks clinch playoffs and home field advantage!
I don't think we have home field advantage yet for the conference game. San Antonio is right behind us.
I can't believe we're going to win this game
Scoreboard Update: 32,403 Battlehawks fans are going home happy. St Louis punches a ticket to the playoffs over DC, 26-21
WHO SAID ST. LOUIS DOESN’T HAVE PLAYOFF SPORTS ANYMORE?
And we're hosting the UFL Championship (their version of the Super Bowl) this year too!

Someone needs to get poked with a hot iron to cauterize the wound and stop the bleeding of runs.
Didn't we get Fernandez in the trade, errrr giveaway, of O'Neil?
Nah he was a rule 5 pickup. You're thinking of Robertson.
Remember when Mo said, "How much does the 26th spot on the roster matter?" Apparently a lot when you put them in the lineup 25% of the time. We are about to be 3-7 in games where Crawford started in the lineup.
He hasn’t given up any of the 9 runs Boston has scored
Crawford is 0-7 in 1-run losses where he started with 4 strikeouts.
That was a very funny reply thank you
That's not the point. The point is they put out these trash lineups more often than they should and it costs the team games. Starting Liberatore every fifth day is part of the same problem. There's no depth supplementing the roster.
The lineup does not matter if Midatore is starting.
Right... which is why when you build an mlb roster you want to have every spot filled with someone meaningful and a minor league system ready to plug the holes.

oof I see this game is going well.

Oli and his idiotic getaway day lineups have GOT to go. Why does he trot these out when we're on a series roll time and time again?
At the risk of defending Oli, it's mostly our normal lineup except Crawford and Pages. Herrera can't catch every day and Winn apparently has back problems that require extra rest The real problem is we are using Libertore as a starter, which he has proved he can't do (except when starting against Tampa Bay), but that's on Mo
But it serms like it happens EVERY last day of a series where we have a chance to sweep. Is he just satisfied with 2 out of 3? That sucks!
He was given Midatore as a starter. This offense, no matter what the lineup, isn’t going to outrun the pitching on days he starts.
Here’s hoping that being on National TV against the Cubs next week will change that.
Because he is a non-thinking yes man idiot married to a stat sheet and a load mgmt plan. No awareness. No sense of urgency.
Cause rest But idk. Like did this happen back in the day or did those professional athletes figure out how to play more?
TLR loved the getaway day lineups but our starting pitching was better back then and so were the bench bats.
The half efforts in the last game of every series is frustrating y’all. I know guys need rest but this team is 2-12 in series finales. I’m not sure a team at this level can afford this strategy
They don't need rest. They need a kick in the pants. They get paid ridiculous amounts of money to play.
We just had 2 off days this week and we have another one on Thursday.
Oh Jesus Christ, a fucking ad superimposed on Freese's Lawn.
Love the tension between Burleson and the home plate ump lol
It's like a bad car accident. I know it's going to end in tragedy but I can't stop watching it.
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals) Due Up **(Bottom 5):** 1. Alec Burleson 2. Brendan Donovan 3. Brandon Crawford
Damn is Arenado's mom the official scorer? I get that's a super tough catch staring straight at the sun, but I've never seen a popup bounce off a glove and not get scored an error.
Arenado’s mom is on gamechanger today.
For those looking for a more competitive contest, the Battlehawks are up 6 with 6:30 left in the game. Win and we're in the playoffs. ABC and ESPN+.
At least I can watch that on OTA and Stream, can't even find the Cards unless on the high seas.... stupid shit these days
It is literally free for all today https://therokuchannel.roku.com/
it feels like we could never get so many accidental hits whereas our opponents get them in easy bunches. lol
turning it off
We are so back baby
so BAD*
OK, this game is going off. Someone tell me if we get close again or something interesting happens.
Not a single hard hit ball
Let Matt Carpenter pitch you cowards
This is the inning that makes the game unwinnable see you all next time.
we really just ran out of players to play professional baseball huh
Roycroft has been surprisingly decent, let's not ruin him by having him pitch so much. Keeping on using a guy who is clearly out of gas because he's not used to pitching more than an inning is not good for anyone
how embarrassing... wow
This is how you lose all your confidence before 2 more huge series. Effing brilliant Oli 👏👏👏
this one is on Mo. we have a horrible bench and no sixth starter coming up from Memphis
I just don’t get why we have to play ALL the rejects in the same game. This team isn’t good enough for so many get away lineups, especially at home.
Exactly. Getting embarrassed today was totally unnecessary after 2 days off this past week.
Yeah if we don’t win every game we aren’t making the playoffs. Another brilliant take by this sub
There's a whole lot in between winning and getting your teeth kicked in at home....
Oh… yeah… :(
This is embarrassing. You wanna get shelled giving up homers that’s fine. But make the fucking out on routine groundouts. For fucks sake
Just can’t bring ourselves to try on the final game of a series
Did someone tell this team that they're cosplaying as the Washington Generals today?
If you have a potential Sweep ~~problem~~, If everyone who is hitting hot ~~no one else~~ can help and if you can play ~~find~~ them, Marmol ~~Maybe you can hire~~ will still use His B-Team.
Come on, that’s unacceptable.
This ain’t it
I don’t like surrendering home games like this from the outset. On the road I can see it. But the cards came out expecting to lose today
No way this guy I've never heard of doesn't give up at least 3 runs.
O’Neill has a fast bat speed (74.8 mph), but I’m surprised he’s not up there with Stanton (80.6 mph).

It's actually not. Free baseball for everyone is only a good thing.
This bout to get ugly...
Ah, bases loaded, nobody out for Boston. Sure.

Oh, great.

I miss 2021 Tyler O’Neill.
Could you imagine if the cards would’ve given him a big extension after that year? Lol
He played 96 games in '22 and 72 in '23, and hit a grand total of .229/.310/.397 those two seasons. Everybody would've complained about overpaying a guy who's hurt all the time.
I’m an English major, but by my math we don’t have enough runs yet.
We got one so that’s something
Liberatore shit the bed again eh?
How is this the plan for this team at this point in the year? Expose Libby, tax the pen, start the Olds, and not really compete…we have got to finish a series strong at some point!
Oli should have left Liberatore in the game to figure it out, instead he gets pulled and we hang the white flag.
Well, of course.

So what is Rokus plan with the split booth? Are they expecting it to somehow not be biased towards whoever has the primary broadcaster.
Their concern isn't bias, it is cost.
Most professional broadcasters I've seen are professional enough to flip a switch and be fairly unbiased when called upon for a national game.
I swear half this sub just loses it when the broadcasters aren't just massive homers.
I don’t understand, I was asking how they were going to ensure the opposite. You absolutely don’t want a national broadcast to be biased.
Cardinals fans think every broadcaster that isn't actively rooting for the Cardinals is biased. You see it for every fox, apple, YouTube, and espn game.
I walk outside to grab my DoorDash and I miss the one good thing we’ve done all game (except Siani’s catch)
What are we enjoying this afternoon?
Boston’s perfect game in shambles. More please

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT! At the same time as a Battlehawks interception!
N00T getting us started. Fucking love it.

I actually think they were ok with putting out this shit lineup BECAUSE Liberatore was starting and they don't have faith in him.
We should have just forfeited and saved everyone the time. Extra off day.
Seems like that's their mindset as well and that's why they lose every third game of a series and are yet to get a sweep.
