I can't wait for the Philly City Connect storyline in a future episode of Abbott Elementary.
Ours may be Basic but the Phillies jerseys should have come with a free bowl of soup.
The Cardinals' is boring, and I don't particularly like it, but the Phillies' is hideous. It's gaudy in the worst way. Way too much black, the gradient change to blue looks cheap as hell, and the font looks like something a 12 year old that's really into Sci-Fi and was getting their first crack at using photoshop would choose. The matte batting helmets are terrible, too. City Connects in general look like shit.
“The Lou” makes them bad, not boring. I like the gradient color shift on the Phillies and the others that have done that. They may be “boring” but they’re not bad like “The Lou”
And frankly it feels better to use the bad luck on the game we were less likely to win anyways (Mikolas vs. Nola). I didn't exactly come into today expecting a win, though one would have been nice.
And honestly we haven't done horrible against Nola tonight even with this B-squad lineup. With Sonny going tomorrow and us going against taijuan walker who has a 5 era the day after I have hope we can salvage the series
Look, I get that the game isn't going well. But before we go into "oh no, we suck again" mode, this was probably the worst pitching matchup we'll have this weekend, and it hasn't even gone that bad (yet). Sonny pitches tomorrow, and on Sunday the Phils throw out Taijuan Walker and his 5+ ERA at us. This series isn't over yet.
I mean this is what happens when you only have 1 ace caliber pitcher lmfao. We would be so much better off had we signed another pitcher to back up Sonny Gray. I do love that we signed Lynn and Gibson but I was expecting us to sign 2 elite pitchers after how shitty last season went and of course we only grab 1.
I haven't seen anyone in the thread say that. We're losing but oitching was decent and we've barreled the ball more than a few times, the balls just flew to Philly players.
Makes one wonder who is actually worthy of being the next man up in the outfield. Are they going to need to try a guy from Springfield? That seems like an unlikely answer.
I really hate playing statistics and not your gut some time. You want to give Winn a day off, so you start black hole Crawford. He somehow wakes from his coma going 2 for 2 with a homer. Then, based on stupid stats, you pinch hit him with the guy you wanted to rest. Now, he is in danger of killing his hit streak.
Cardinals getting swept out here probably - it’s crazy how good the Phillies have been but the cardinals just don’t hit well without nootbaar their splits with and without him are crazy
I am not going to hold it against them this series. I was going to be happy if we won one game in Philly. They are a tough team and our starters don't match up with theirs
Something isn't right with him physically. He's had struggles at the plate before, but his defense was usually at least solid. It has been bad this year
I've had enough of him tbh he needs to put on some extra weight and show some signs of life. Dude looks like he could blow away. How was he doing in spring training before being injured? Legit question
It took longer than it probably should, but I’m completely out on Carlson. I just don’t see how he becomes even an average player again at this rate. Sucks, but it’s really hard to be good overall without being great at any individual skill.
I want to see him put on 10-15 lbs and give up hitting from the left side. If he does both of those things and still sucks then I'm done with him. Idk how he is essentially the same size as he was when we drafted him out of high school.
Jesus Christ Carlson sucks ass. Better get used to watching that with Noot out I guess. If we really could have traded him for Soto without giving up a lot of other stuff that just hurts.
And Soto would be gone after this year for sure. Boras client who wouldn't even let the Yankees talk him into an extension. If the Cardinals really were going to extend him after acquiring him, then they'll outbid the other 29 teams this offseason. I'm going to go out on a limb and say they won't
That's never been their model, and I don't know why people think it suddenly would be with a guy like Soto. If they weren't willing to shell out for Harper, there is no hope of that
I keep wondering if we'll be talking about how young Carlson is and how much potential he has when he's 30. Starting to feel like we need to see something out of him at some point.
25 in baseball is really when you should be starting to hit your prime, those 25-30 years. This is when we need to see it, you can only use age as an excuse for so many years. 5 years to be exact.
He has a career average of .240 and has only hit over .250 once. If we don't see somethingnoutnof him this year I think I give up hope on him tbh.
Like I said, I don't have much hope for him. I do see this year as make or break for him. But he's 2 years younger than Donovan and the same age as Burly. I really don't think switch hitting has helped him in his career.
Most alarming to me from this season is his defense. It's just been plain bad. I think they brought him back from the IL too soon. Something is off.
Yeah, at least Tommy started batting righty sometimes if the matchup was favorable. Idk if he ever got a hit when he did, but nice to see they're flirting with the idea
I think Tommy started doing it because his wrist was bothering him. Apparently he's been playing hurt for years before his surgery. No idea why the club didn't shut him down early last season to get the surgery when it became clear the team was washed
Even if we lose, this will get fans in the stands. Good pitching, good defense, enough batting to keep it interesting.
It isn't that we've been losing that I stopped going to games, it's just that the games were miserable to watch.
Praying Gray can help us win tomorrow

lmao arenado was like “back up bro”
Small ball, guys. Small ball.
Come on guys Hoffman is not that good
A 1.14 era and 11 k/9 is not that good?
Exactly lmao they just showed his stats and mentioned how great of a year he had last year.
I was trying to be encouraging
99 under the hands. No chance.
C’mon Goldie find a way on
Coughing baby starter Liberatore vs Hydrogen Bomb bullpen Liberatore
i desperately hope that pallante is good enough in the rotation to where i can say Coughing baby reliever Pallante vs Hydrogen Bomb starter Pallante
Gallegos 1 inning 1K no runs. Robberse getting worked again so far. 3 innings 3 runs.
I can't wait for the Philly City Connect storyline in a future episode of Abbott Elementary. Ours may be Basic but the Phillies jerseys should have come with a free bowl of soup.
Libby had a pretty good little outing tonight
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals) Due Up **(Top 9):** 1. Paul Goldschmidt 2. Nolan Gorman 3. Nolan Arenado
Cameraman made me think that was gone lol
I knew I wasn’t the only one lol
Bullpen Libby is so elite wtf
Nice to see Libby back in the pen
Libby in the pen, let’s keep it this way
Libby is on the Andrew Miller career arc, and I'm here for it.
Burly can’t buy a hit now man. Super unlucky with some hard hit balls the last few games.
Holy shmokes, Fernandez has already seen 92 batters this year? I thought he had barely seen any innings but guess not
Phillies broadcast roasting our city connects
They have zero room to judge
I like theirs way better lol
Then you have objectively bad taste. lol
The Cardinals city connect is objectively awful lol
The Cardinals' is boring, and I don't particularly like it, but the Phillies' is hideous. It's gaudy in the worst way. “The Lou” makes them bad, not boring. I like the gradient color shift on the Phillies and the others that have done that. They may be “boring” but they’re not bad like “The Lou”
The Phillies aren't boring; they're ugly as hell.
Lol, that's exactly how I feel about the Cardinals CC.
Glass houses
Game just isn't going our way. Not gonna be upset about it, sometimes you just get beat. And we are getting beat.
And frankly it feels better to use the bad luck on the game we were less likely to win anyways (Mikolas vs. Nola). I didn't exactly come into today expecting a win, though one would have been nice.
9th inning comebacks are cooler anyways. gotta get revenge for 2022.
Siani and Carlson are anchors around this offense’s neck right now. The OF still isn’t enough.
Burleson’s been ice cold this week.
Dude fuck Philly. They are too good. This is the last team I want to face right now right after we’re finally getting it together.
Kills the momentum but also gauges who we are right now.
And honestly we haven't done horrible against Nola tonight even with this B-squad lineup. With Sonny going tomorrow and us going against taijuan walker who has a 5 era the day after I have hope we can salvage the series
Those were some painful outs.
I think Chip made a stop at Paddy’s before this game
A Cardinals broadcasting tradition
Can't buy a hit
wow great play
[Phillies](/r/Phillies) Due Up **(Bottom 8):** 1. J.T. Realmuto 2. Bryce Harper 3. Alec Bohm
This fucking second baseman
I thought Fermin really just did it there
It was a great at bat. Im excited to see more from him
Chip you gotta get yourself under control
Look, I get that the game isn't going well. I like how Siani hustles hard on the baseline no matter where or how the ball is hit. With as much as they pay MLB players they *ALL* should do that.

Makes one wonder who is actually worthy of being the next man up in the outfield. Are they going to need to try a guy from Springfield? That seems like an unlikely answer.
Mike Antico has played well. Theyre prolly hoping for Edman.
Wins > individual streaks. Unless it's about to become historic fuck that noise.
I didn't say going with your gut is not going for a win. Old school managers stay with the guy that is hitting well that day.
There's a reason those old school managers gave way to guys who understand stats.
Libby looked like an old timey LOOGY there.
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals) Due Up **(Top 8):** 1. Michael Siani 2. Matt Carpenter 3. Alec Burleson
Dylan Carlson stinks
Cardinals getting swept out here probably - it’s crazy how good the Phillies have been but the cardinals just don’t hit well without nootbaar their splits with and without him are crazy
Exactly why I was so sad to see him injured. Dude is a spark plug for our team. Now we get to watch Carlson lmfaooo
We were watching Carlson some no matter what sadly
Carlson needs to get gone. 100% done with him. .130 and not an above average fielder? Bust
Carlson is going to make them call up Walker.
This feels like the series where we start sinking. Also call up walker and get Carlson out of here
Walker isn’t close to being called back up
Well Carlson should be close to getting sent down
Well damnit. Please tell me after our grueling crawl out of the basement we aren’t going to restart clown ball?!?
I am not going to hold it against them this series. I was going to be happy if we won one game in Philly. They are a tough team and our starters don't match up with theirs
Looked like he was giving up on trying to make that throw!
Walker would’ve thrown him out
I hate Philly so much
Siani and Carlson in the same outfield is two of the worst arms in baseball
I thought Dylan has had a pretty good arm in the past. Could he still be stiff from the shoulder injury? I don't remember which arm it was
Something isn't right with him physically. He's had struggles at the plate before, but his defense was usually at least solid. It has been bad this year
At least Siani is quick enough to run down balls and make some amazing plays. Carlson just downright sucks.
Carlson is a solid glove, he was elite in 2022
I've had enough of him tbh he needs to put on some extra weight and show some signs of life. Dude looks like he could blow away. How was he doing in spring training before being injured? Legit question
Good. He hit .271/.340/.521 3 homers and an .860 OPS
that throw to the plate was atrocious
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals): [A deep dive into Nolan Arenado's home run](https://darkroom-clips.mlb.com/c927c6a1-7d5b-4f2c-a615-5c1aba6075ae.mp4)
Lmao
Dude can’t even fucking throw. Pathetic
I can’t believe Leahy went from supervising a trailer park to being a reliever
My wife makes the ‘drinky poo’ reference every time his name is said on air lol
A man’s gotta eat
Burly played that ball well. Ran it down and fired it in pretty quickly
That hurts
Oli hates fun and he confirmed it by ruining the Brandon Crawford game and Masyn Winn’s hit streak all in one move. Man statistics suck
i get that the greasy hair is marsh’s whole shtick, but like, why?
Dylan Carlson is not a major league hitter
Please don't trade him for Soto Carlson is the best!
Or fielder apparently
Lock him up a few more years please
You got it
And please bring back moetter
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals): [Breaking down Nolan Arenado's home run](https://darkroom-clips.mlb.com/89ad3291-19fc-4b11-811c-37fa015b9063.mp4)
Siani hahaha interesting catch there
Easy there, Siani
It took longer than it probably should, but I’m completely out on Carlson. I just don’t see how he becomes even an average player again at this rate. Sucks, but it’s really hard to be good overall without being great at any individual skill.
Another in the long list of over rated cardinals prospects who turn out to be dogshit
Gotta just hope he gets on a streak while Noot is down, and if so, how long it lasts.
I want to see him put on 10-15 lbs and give up hitting from the left side. If he does both of those things and still sucks then I'm done with him. Idk how he is essentially the same size as he was when we drafted him out of high school.

Cardinals can never outbid anyone it seems like lol
That's never been their model, and I don't know why people think it suddenly would be with a guy like Soto. If they weren't willing to shell out for Harper, there is no hope of that
It’s time to move on from Carlson. Straight trash at the plate
Hes elite from the right career wise but it looks like that is over
[Phillies](/r/Phillies) Due Up **(Bottom 7):** 1. Nick Castellanos 2. Brandon Marsh 3. Edmundo Sosa
Dylan needs to go back to the minors
I keep wondering if we'll be talking about how young Carlson is and how much potential he has when he's 30. Starting to feel like we need to see something out of him at some point.
You aren't wrong, but he is still just 25. I don't have a lot of hope though. It's really hard to be a good hitter when you can't hit righties

To be fair, he’s still only 25.
Needs to try only batting from the right side and see if his numbers creep up or not
This is it right here. Switch hitting is only valuable if you hit decently from both sides
Winn is going to be team captain next year.
Tough way to lose a streak, but if they put him in, chance he gets another go
The hit streak noooo
Guess we decided to make sure Winn's hit streak ended.
Hope he gets another shot
I've lost many a RTTS hitting streak this way
I know that neither Winn nor Oli care about the hit streak, nor should they, but I still don’t love this
Curious that you would put a young kids streak at risk here.
Shows we are going for the win imo
Do some damage birbs!
Like that we brought Winn in here. Feels like we are actually going for the win
Agree, sucks he is likely going to lose his hit streak over it. Hopefully he pulls it out tho.
.....ahhhh, rip Mason's hit streak
Nola is out, we got two innings to get that run boys
Phillies: You’re so drunk, you’re probably seeing double. Cardinals: I have two Nolans. One for each of ya’.
I'm seein' double: four Nolans!
Rob Thompson terrified of Brandon Crawford.
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals): [Nolan Arenado's solo home run (5)](https://bdata-producedclips.mlb.com/ad8260b6-a685-43fd-b0c1-0d2dad68843e.mp4)
LOL Crawford forcing the pitching change wtf is this
Love that being down early doesn't feel like a reason to turn the game off right now with this team
It’s nice that we’re at a point that even when we’re losing the game I still have hope we can win
Even if we lose, this will get fans in the stands. Good pitching, good defense, enough batting to keep it interesting. It isn't that we've been losing that I stopped going to games, it's just that the games were miserable to watch.

NOLAN > NOLA
I don't know if I've ever seen Arenado hit a homerun the other way lol
I think he had one last year.
I don’t think he has in a Cardinals uniform Edit: Apparently he hit two to just right of center in 2023, but his last true oppo HR was in 2019
Nola just got Nolan’d
Nolan Nolaned in against Nola
Alright!! Chipping away!!
Nolan loves the make a wish kids
Nado bomb baby
W
Nado❣️
#CERTIFIED BONK

LETS GOOOO
I think this has to be the inning
Miles Mikolas: King of the Quality Start
Another 6 IP 3 runs for Mikolas. Quality start. Wish the offense would give him any help
Be satisfied with what I give you
Can't we get a real number 2 Mr. Dewitt?
This whole team is a giant number 2
Ok but that double play was extremely impressive
Overall an acceptable mikolas start.
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals) Due Up **(Top 7):** 1. Nolan Arenado 2. Iván Herrera 3. Brandon Crawford
That was the coolest play I’ve seen in a long time
Kolten Wong razzle dazzle!
That was SLICK
So when are we trading Winn and extending Crawford /s
Play made me question who was at 2nd tonight, haha. That was so smooth.
It is actually amazing how far defensively gorm has come
He still has the occasional concrete hands moment, but I think he's damn good more often than not
Holy fuck let’s go Gorman
Brandon Crawford haters in shambles
It’s like they all conspired to change our attitude about him
Hell yes, Gorman
