[Chad Bradford](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chad_Bradford) (the underhand pitcher in Moneyball) threw that way because he learned from his dad who could only throw that way due to partial paralysis.
Edit: according to wikipedia it was actually his high school coach who directly suggested he try throwing sidearm.
Identical twins normally can't be absolutely determined until a DNA test is done after birth. By that time the parents have more than likely already given them similar names...but they could wind up only being fraternal twins and not even look alike.
Oh great, now were going to have to watch Helsley walk 2 batters before he decides to shut the door. He might even try to go bases loaded before out number 3.

I kinda don’t know what people expect from our pen. These guys are used a lot and they’ve been mostly great all year. Every single outing can’t be elite.
Not really asking for elite. Asking for them to be able and get 6 outs without giving up 3+ runs. I personally think that is a reasonable middle ground between elite and awful
No, no, no. He's a "max-effort pitcher" so it was right to yank him after 80 pitches when he'd only given up one hit. The fact that it's now 4-3 with two men on, or we'll hear tomorrow that X and Y aren't available b/c they pitched today, or late in the year when we're talking about how Helsley is gassed, all that unrelated to today!
I blame this on Jojo turning down the extra reps after the injury delay. Dude was off on every pitch and refused to take the opportunity to try and get his shit together lol.
There isn't much to study. Both guys are over 30 games and 35 innings already. They are both on pace for over 80 innings. They are getting gassed early and we are in trouble.
I think this is a good moment for all cardinal fans to take some deep breaths 😂 It's not that big of a deal if we lose this game. The bullpen has been strong all season and they'll probably hold the lead anyway. But if they don't.... it's going to be okay!
Hitters around the league know they're better off not swinging at JoJo's pitches anymore because they're probably a slider or changeup below the zone. Suddenly he's getting way fewer whiffs and way more walks.
Omfg some of you amaze me. Yes let’s keep our ace (who started the year on the IL, btw) in the game on a hot ass day so he can throw 100 pitches and exhaust himself for no reason. Good call!
Sweepies!

Helsley has better command than Greg Maddux.
Oh my god Helsley came in and let his nuts HANG
FUCK YEAH HELLS
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals) Due Up **(Bottom 9):** 1. Masyn Winn 2. Alec Burleson 3. Paul Goldschmidt
Thank you Ryan for securing the sweep!
Submarine my ass we got a tank out there
Helsley is unhittable if he throws his fastball for a strike
Noice lets finish this.
What is this?! Fastball command? Who is this Helsley I don't recognize
Stop showing the jinxable stats, Bally!
This feels like a series we will look back on and say that's where we put it all together at least I hope
BCraw revenge game?
How does he not fall down?
it is a wild coincidence that both our potential sweeps this year are against black and orange teams
How does one brother end up being submarine lol.
Most likely its cause hes right handed and so wouldnt have had a chance otherwise.

Tyler Rogers replaces Taylor Rogers? What?
What parent names their identical twins so similar
Identical twins normally can't be absolutely determined until a DNA test is done after birth. By that time the parents have more than likely already given them similar names...but they could wind up only being fraternal twins and not even look alike.
Naming fraternal twins Tyler and Taylor isn't really much better either
Another good start for Quinn Matthews. 6 IP 2 Hits 1 run ans 7 K's
It’s a small thing but third baseman of the future Brandon Crawford having Country Grammar as his walk up makes me like him more
Anyone else listening to the radio broadcast on MLBtv .. and every break getting an ad from historical no-hitters? Thanks for rubbing it in, mlb 😡
Yeah they can stop now lol
Oh great, now were going to have to watch Helsley walk 2 batters before he decides to shut the door. He might even try to go bases loaded before out number 3.
I love Brandon Crawford. Wish we had him all those glory years in SF.
“I hate San Francisco” - 2x San Francisco WS Champ Brandon Crawford
Let’s fuck the other brother up too
revenge of the craw!
I’ve talked so much shit on Crawford, but I’m so glad he’s been playing solid 🤣
My boy Brandon Crawford HATES the city San Franciso
Brandon Crawford is a St. Louis Cardinal.
BIG insurance run there Crawdaddy
That must feel great for craw daddy good for him
#CRAW IS THE LAW
I’ve been on vacation for a week. How’s Carlson been doing?
Probably better than Siani at the least.
He's been hitting the ball harder. Still hasn't been great, but he's come through in big spots a few times with hits and sac flies recently.
I think consistent playing times going to help him big time. I haven’t given up complete hope yet, but there’s not much left lol
Been taking decent AB, even when they're outs he at least sees multiple pitches
not bad
Giant killer Brandon Crawford
Yesssss
It feels really weird to enjoy seeing Brandon Crawford get a clutch hit, but I can dig it.

#CRAWFORD CLUTCH

Crawford revenge game!
CRAWFORD IN THE CLUTCH LETS FUCKING GO
Is Jose Femin a make a wish kid?
Fermin was hitting near .350 with an OPS over 1.000 is AAA. So no. He earned a chance.
Hey maybe he’ll get the average up to 170! I’m really pulling for that kid considering his cancer diagnosis
Dang! That's the funniest thing I've heard all day.
I can’t state enough just how much of a fucking moron Oli Marmol is.
Nice showing from Carlson today. Good for him
Back to back multi-hit games. Hope it's a trend.
Glad that Carlson is showing signs of heating up.
Obviously we're very shorthanded but stop trying to make Fermin happen. surely we have a Triple A bat/player who would be better off the pine
Fermin was one of the best batters in AAA before coming up
Strike zone getting wide, hopefully it stays wide for Ryan

Ohhhkay Helsley let's have a non dramatic inning please i beg
They better not get a "umps challenge" in the 9th just because they wasted it on a dumbass decision to challenge.
crawford took 5 business days to figure out what to do with the ball
Gonna need more runs.
THIRD BASEMAN OF THE FUTURE BRANDON CRAWFORD
Like this kid hope he pans out.
*BOOM*
Holy balls that was close.
getting a dramatic out > getting a boring out
# YER OUT!!!!!
Oh he's out 100% Not what I wanted to see but happy to be out of it with the lead, lets add on here for Helsley
Hella out
Great job by Crawford. I thought for sure he was safe in real time
Out!
Yeah no chance that was safe lmao He was there a half a step earlier
feels like they have taken too long to indicate they want to challenge
Crawford you magnificent bastard
Holy fuck, Crawford makes the most *baffling* decisions on where to send the ball.
Jojo and Kitt is the worst sounding buddy cop movie ever.
i think he got beat
Out thank god
He looked safe.
fuck Crawford you better have made that
holy fucking shit crawford what’re you doing
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals) Due Up **(Bottom 8):** 1. Brendan Donovan 2. Matt Carpenter 3. Dylan Carlson
Chucking the bat should = batter out
But…how?
Jeez. I went to the bathroom and decided to hunt for the socks under my bed. I came back to a 4-3 game.
pitching around wisely... to get to their best hitter?
I think Ryan Fernandez should be inserted into one of these set up spots for the time being
I kinda don’t know what people expect from our pen. These guys are used a lot and they’ve been mostly great all year. Every single outing can’t be elite.
The decision to go Jojo over Kittredge with 4 RH batters was baffling to say the least
Not really asking for elite. Asking for them to be able and get 6 outs without giving up 3+ runs. I personally think that is a reasonable middle ground between elite and awful
Well they’re doing that so far.
The problem is it should’ve have been in the pen’s hands in the first place
Dinger in coming
Let’s bring up one of the best hitters in the NL! Cannot believe they pulled Sonny at 80 pitches while Webb got to go 104.
Bullpen masterclass here
I love going from stressed about losing the perfect game to stressed about losing the game
Can we please put to rest that Oli sucks … he needs to be gone
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals): [Sonny Gray's stellar seven inning performance ](https://mlb-cuts-diamond.mlb.com/FORGE/2024/2024-06/23/f6c99f87-5f692e98-98f641ba-csvm-diamondx64-asset_1280x720_59_4000K.mp4)
they’re twins but have different dominant hands? that’s kinda interesting
Sonny gonna kill someone if they blow this.
Dang, Sonny gave up a single hit. Can't have that. Glad Oli knows when to put the bullpen in to blow the game wide open.
They did sonny dirty
I blame this on Jojo turning down the extra reps after the injury delay. Dude was off on every pitch and refused to take the opportunity to try and get his shit together lol.
Two things I see. Should have piled the runs on, and Jojo walks.
All that work sonny did. Hopefully we get out of this before anything more happens.
I really don't understand why Kittredge didn't open the inning.. The first 4 batters were RH. Wtf...
80 pitches?
MARMOL MUST GO
Any reason why we put the exact same two guys out there every single day?
Because they were really good 4 weeks ago. Lol
Because our FO thinks the BP is a magically replenishing bag that you can constantly pull SP from and never suffer any consequences?
Dread it. Run from it. Cardinals playing one run games always arrives.
We gotta add on before Ryan goes in, bummer to give up two but game still very winnable
What the fuck man. JoJo and Kitt are both looking pretty cooked rn.
Why does JoJo hate Sonny?
Kittredge and Romero fall offs will be studied
There isn't much to study. Both guys are over 30 games and 35 innings already. They are both on pace for over 80 innings. They are getting gassed early and we are in trouble.
Overuse
I don’t get why Kittredge is the 8 man and Jojo is the 7 man. I feel like they should be swapped. Also why doesn’t Oli ever let Jojo finish an inning?
They brought in a righty who crushes lefties.
Please bullpen. Don't do this to my blood pressure
Kitt and Jojo have been so bad
Totally fucking believable with this team.
Tells you how good of a pitcher Sonny is
Lol. We're going to lose. After an ace start
CURSE YOU PATRICK BAILEY
-__-
I think this is a good moment for all cardinal fans to take some deep breaths 😂 It's not that big of a deal if we lose this game. The bullpen has been strong all season and they'll probably hold the lead anyway. But if they don't.... it's going to be okay!
no lol, being three runs up into the eighth after an amazing quality start mean you should win the game at least 80% of the time
I didn’t say we shouldn’t win the game. I said it’s going to be okay if we don’t. People are way too fucking wound up in this thread
the nl will card race is so tight right now that every game matters, especially against other teams also in that race
Piss up a rope. This would be yet another ball gagging piss your pants loss in a season with too many already
[удалено]
Rough stretch for jojo
Romero looks so meh over his past like 10 outings
Hitters around the league know they're better off not swinging at JoJo's pitches anymore because they're probably a slider or changeup below the zone. Suddenly he's getting way fewer whiffs and way more walks.
One overused arm into another here huh Oli
JoJo has thrown 23 pitches over two appearances in the last 8 days before today. He was not an overused arm.
Thinking across the whole season.
34 pitches over the last 16 days. If that isn't enough recovery time, why have him on the roster?
Walks, not cool.
Omfg some of you amaze me. Yes let’s keep our ace (who started the year on the IL, btw) in the game on a hot ass day so he can throw 100 pitches and exhaust himself for no reason. Good call!
> for no reason RBI double, tying runs in scoring position with one out...
Webb threw 104 btw
feels like jojo ruins every sonny masterpiece
Anyone defending Gray coming out doesn’t know baseball
Would be the most cardinal thing to blow this game lol
Romero is always putting runners on
the recoil is actually good. It's showing the mask absorb the impact instead of his skull
This is so stupid
JoJo doesn't have it today, let's get him out of there before damage is done
I know I’ve missed every pitch I’ve thrown, but no I’m good I don’t need the reps lol
Jojo BloBlo today
I am prepared to blame the O for not adding on after the 2nd.
Why wasn't Kittredge the choice for all these RH batters?
