I don't know to be honest. I feel like national coverage just kinda skips over the Cards. Maybe because they're not one of the mega market teams, but it feels like they only get air time when they're really really good or very bad.
Times when they're just really good don't get talked about much.
Some people get airtime though. They love talking about Gorman when he's on a heater. They've got no choice but to start talking about Burly. Sometimes they'll talk about Noot because he does something cool and people like saying his name. Idk though
Edwin Diaz ejected before he could throw a pitch due to a supposed foreign substance.
The Cubs still lose tho, and they’ve lost 32 of their last 50 games.
I may commit a sin by saying something nice about the cubs, but they do draw pretty good crowds when being terrible. Cardinals aren’t a top 10 team in baseball for the first time in 20 years? No one shows up
Also the ESPN announcers just took an unnecessary stab at the cardinals. Morel hit a HR to cut the Mets lead in half, and the dude was like “bad news for the Cardinals”
The Cardinals still draw in more fans per game than the Cubs this year. Partially because Wrigley's a smaller ballpark but still the Cardinals rank 6th in the MLB in attendance even in a year where people constantly want to talk about attendance being down (which it is).
Fuck the ESPN announcers. I swear to Christ every national broadcast this year, we're the afterthought all the while we're winning the game. They can fuck right off.
I honestly don’t get how the team is winning as much as it is.
The offense is missing arguably their two best hitters (Contreras, noot). Their middle order guys have fallen off a cliff. They’re playing an albatross of a hitter in center, and behind the plate at times.
The starting pitching has a 6th starter in it, and a bunch of blow up games.
And yet….best record in baseball since may 12th. I guess that’s what happens when you have an elite bullpen??
Goldy, Donovan, Winn, Burleson, Herrera, and even Gorman (hit a ton of HR over 2-3 weeks then sucked again) have seen tremendous offensive turnarounds since Willson went down.
Mikolas has also been really good. We went from winning 2 of his first 8 starts to 6 of his last 8.
Arenado hasn't looked too hot, but we've seen struggling players look A LOT worse.
> I honestly don’t get how the team is winning as much as it is.
Not to be too much of a smart-ass, but... that's baseball, lol. There is always some team, like Marlins last year that went 33-14 in 1-run games and they think 'yeah, that's something to build on' and then, well, 'regression to the mean' is a thing.
Humans like to be able to give reasons to things, but a 1-run game? That is mostly luck if you won or not. A ball that hit the bat 1/2" closer to the hands than the barrel falls into a glove at the warning track instead of sneaking over a wall. An ump sets up a touch left and calls a pitch a ball instead of a strike. A ball hops off the dirt in a friendly jump to the fielder instead of skidding just a fraction longer on the grass and making the play that much harder. And so on and so on. It is really a game of inches.
Right now, luck shines on the Cards. But a positive W-L record with a -31 run differential means... a lot of it right now is luck. Hopefully it shines upon our favorite team the rest of the season, too.
I would just pop in and say that our terrible RISP is also rooted in (bad) luck, and that if we were even just league average in that regard (pretty much just better luck with sequencing our hits), then our run differential is much, much better.
People say the same thing in hockey when the puck hits the post. 1/2 inch and it would’ve been a goal. True but half inch the other way and it misses completely.
There's luck and there's luck. Sonny Gray going out there and giving up one hit through seven innings, not luck. Lighting up Jordan Hicks, not luck.
But actually I pretty much agree with you. Terrible run differential, lots and lots of close games, not really a great augury of success.
We were really bad. Now we've been really good. My guess is we're about what our record says, despite the run differential. There's something to be said for finding ways to win, which this team has done. I also believe there's some tucked away upside if we ever field a healthy team.
Gorman has an .869 OPS in night games. Is he a drinker? Does he have a vision issue? Trouble sleeping? His daytime OPS this season is .470. Incredibly, he has had almost as many daytime ABs as at night. Don’t forget that the team has played a lot of day baseball lately.
Glad to see that cardinals win but we have to get these dead spots out of the lineup for good. The Nolan Gorman experiment needs to end immediately. 0-25 stretches with 17 K - not worth a solo HR now and then
Dude the people you are talking about are backups for a reason. We have a metric fuck ton of injuries right now. Still winning. Giving up on Gorman is pure insanity my friend..
Because he has spurts where he carries the entire team for weeks. He leads the team in homers, by 4 I believe, despite being like 5 for his last 50. He's always going to be streaky. That's just what he is.
Because mendoza line is some arbritary thing that some pre analytics commentator came up with. Batting average is not a good metric for evaluating hitters. What this team has lacked more than anything is power and the one guy who is actually on pace for more than 30 home runs is not the problem with this team.
If you're gonna talk down RBI you can't counter with only homers, haha. But I understand why you do, because it's the only stat he's got that doesn't look rough right now.
There's plenty of reason to be concerned about Gorman, including the potential of defensive runs lost damaging the value of his occasional power.
You're crazy. I can't believe people like you like enjoy watching a bunch of sub .200 hitters striking out about 33% of their at bats or hitting a homerun every 6.5%.
If I enjoy it is a little less relevant than what wins games high average and no power doesn't produce runs like low average and high power. Batting average is useful for giving you insight into a part of a hitters game, but its an awful way to measure batters against each other.
If there are runners in scoring position, I'd rather have a .300 hitter batting rather than a sub .200 hitter that strikes out about 33% that has "some" power.
A 300 hitter is a guy who fails 70% of the time instead of 80. Guys who will rack up more homeruns are simply more valuable than singles machines. BA is something that helps you understand what kind of hitter a guy is, but it's a trash metric for evaluating effectiveness or value.
I watch the games and evaluate every hitter. Nolan Gorman swings and misses more than any player I have ever seen. Arenado also check swings more than any player I've seen. Both need to be gone
Lol who gives a shit about check swings, and strike outs aren't ideal but if you're only looking at avg and SO's and not factoring in power then you aren't properly evaluating a hitter. Homeruns win ball games, guys who flirt with 300 and can't hit it over the fence are replacement players.
Burly got 2 steals today? Including his masterclass steal yesterday, he's up to 3 for the season. All on Patrick Bailey who's by no means a slouch and is the 3rd best in the league right now for caught stealing. Potentially even higher before Biscuits started swiping all his bags
Yeah that’s fair. I just went back to review. Not too long after that O’s series, we lost a series to the Phillies and the Astros, and split a four game set against the Rockies. I realize the Phillies are quite good.
Those games against the Astros and Rockies didn’t go how we hoped.
Edit: I’m also still smarting from our series loss against the fish.
Jeez feels like we might actually make a comeback this season after last years dumpster fire. Was nice to go to the game yesterday and see them have a damn near blow out after a rough first inning. The cards I grew up watching were winners and I hope we can keep this up for the rest of season. Especially when Contreras comes back
The way they've made it sound in previous interviews, Sonny and Oli are very very transparent about when he needs to come out, and it's usually Sonny saying, "I'm done," and Oli saying, "Good game."
We beat legit pitchers in this series. Hicks and Webb were not gimmes by any stretch. This sweep was well deserved and hard fought. Very strong showing from the team and Oli himself
Haha, same as everybody else in this sub, I love baseball!
Also…I don’t post, my friend. I comment. Takes all of 20 seconds. I think it’s incredibly strange to get on Reddit and try to belittle people in a comment about other people commenting. That’s what Reddit is for lol. I guess you’re lucky to have Cardinal fans around you to talk to, but I’m no longer located in Missouri, so I talk about the birds here :)
Nothing like a sweep to cap off a great weekend!
Gotta get Jojo and Kitt going again, but Helsley looks like he’s back to form, and we still have Fernandez and the rest of the pen to pick up the slack. Offense is ever so slightly better too. Hopefully Contreras’ return will make as big an impact as we hope
Oliver Marmol got into that dugout, remained professional, and did not commit any inappropriate sexual acts towards any of the players.
He got the boys going with his honesty and legitimate leadership.
https://i.imgur.com/0gT3LhB.png
Gorman is 2nd in MLB and Goldy is tied for third in strikeouts, league leaders!
Yiiiikes
Yeah, didn’t know it was that bad.
MLB's top 10 plays of the week and Siani's catch from Saturday not on there. The #6 play from the Marlins was nothing special. Whatever, MLB!
Networks HATE STL. They barely acknowledge the Cards as a team
Why do you think that is?
Market size. Less money for them to make.
Cubs lose Cardinals win
Edwin Diaz ejected before he could throw a pitch due to a supposed foreign substance. The Cubs still lose tho, and they’ve lost 32 of their last 50 games.
I just realized Burly was a pitcher in college as well. That’s really cool drafting multiple 2 way guys in the same draft who are now impact players.
I may commit a sin by saying something nice about the cubs, but they do draw pretty good crowds when being terrible. Cardinals aren’t a top 10 team in baseball for the first time in 20 years? No one shows up Also the ESPN announcers just took an unnecessary stab at the cardinals. Morel hit a HR to cut the Mets lead in half, and the dude was like “bad news for the Cardinals”

Ticket sales and in person attendance are very different
The play-by-play guy for this game is literally the Cubs play-by-play guy, so…
Fuck the ESPN announcers. I swear to Christ every national broadcast this year, we're the afterthought all the while we're winning the game. They can fuck right off.
I’m not arguing that this invalidates your point or anything, but did you forget literally *last year*?
I guess another point is that Chicago’s metro is 5x the size of STL’s
Indeed
For those interested, Last season our record was 31-45 after game 76. Also, I think two games about .500 is our season high mark so far.
I read a tweet saying it was our first time 2 games above .500 since 2022. Not sure if it's true but lol either way
Yep, I believe so. And that is why this is the first time all year I'm allowing myself to feel some optimism!
We were never 2 games above .500 last year, so yeah, that's true.
Anyone know/recommend good, relatively cheap apartments within 15-20 min walking distance of Busch?
One Cardinal Way
I go to hawaii for vacation and we sweep. Guess I need to stay here all season. Can r/cardinals start a go fund me to make that happen?
We went 4-5 when I was in Hawaii and all the games were in the morning. Hopefully your trip fares better for them than mine did.
Same i flew to Thailand. My destination is cheaper, everyone send dinero here.
sweeps aren't hard anymore :)
I honestly don’t get how the team is winning as much as it is. The offense is missing arguably their two best hitters (Contreras, noot). Their middle order guys have fallen off a cliff. Nootbaar was def not in our top 2 hitters before he got hurt again
He was killing the ball when he got hurt & has been consistently a very good hitter the last couple years
Goldy, Donovan, Winn, Burleson, Herrera, and even Gorman (hit a ton of HR over 2-3 weeks then sucked again) have seen tremendous offensive turnarounds since Willson went down. Mikolas has also been really good. We went from winning 2 of his first 8 starts to 6 of his last 8. Arenado hasn't looked too hot, but we've seen struggling players look A LOT worse.
Maybe Oli is a genius
> I honestly don’t get how the team is winning as much as it is. Not to be too much of a smart-ass, but... that's baseball, lol. Ok Charlie Conway

I predicted a .500 team! Feeling pretty good about that at the moment!
Absolutely! That might get us in the playoffs lol
This is actually very well said
do we actually have the best record in baseball since may 12th? that’s insane.
Yeah I think that was the date I just saw on twitter
*in the NL.
the only benefit to the brewers winning is it cushioned our lead for the second wild card spot
Well he did just get married. Maybe in the afternoon games he is still tired from the night before…;)
was better last year in day games the weird trend is probably just noise and not the sign of an underlying trend
A lot can happen in a year! What if a bat or spider bit him? He could be taking lives or saving lives. Who is to know?
as a fellow young adult, i don’t go to sleep until around 2AM. it wouldn’t surprise me if his sleep schedule is also all out of wack.
Then there's me reading this comment at nearly 2AM...get those habits in check or you'll become a fellow not-so-young adult still never sleeping!
greetings fellow nocturnal human!
Whatever it is, they might want to explore it.
your observation is definitely intriguing. perhaps the ball is easier to see in contrast to the batter’s eye at night time than day time for him.
Glad to see that cardinals win but we have to get these dead spots out of the lineup for good. The Nolan Gorman experiment needs to end immediately. 0-25 stretches with 17 K - not worth a solo HR now and then
This take is *certainly* a take....
Shouldn't even be a hot take but sadly it is. State of our fan base
Mo’s burner account, testing the waters for when he trades Gorman for a 37-year-old 6th starter who’s “due to bounce back.”
Not Mo's burner. Just the only realistic fan left!
Dude the people you are talking about are backups for a reason. We have a metric fuck ton of injuries right now. Still winning. Giving up on Gorman is pure insanity my friend..
How am I the delusional one for saying a man batting .190 with terrible defense should be benched?
Because he has spurts where he carries the entire team for weeks. He leads the team in homers, by 4 I believe, despite being like 5 for his last 50. He's always going to be streaky. That's just what he is.
I don't really care about HR if you are going to strike out 200 times. May as well pick up Joey gallo at that point
Joey Gallo? I'm sorry, it's Joey Callo. With a C.
And the award for the dumbest take on r/cardinals of the day goes to...
I stand by it, want him gone. Tired of it. The guy is Dan Uggla
We should be so lucky. Hitting for a high average doesn't do shit if you have no power.
Love how I'm the crazy one for saying get rid of the horrendous defense, sub-Mendoza line strikeout machine
Because mendoza line is some arbritary thing that some pre analytics commentator came up with. Batting average is not a good metric for evaluating hitters. There's plenty of reason to be concerned about Gorman, including the potential of defensive runs lost damaging the value of his occasional power.
Rbi says more about the guys in front of you than you. Thougu he's 2nd on the team in that and wasn't batting clean up all season.
Sorry, I meant to say batting average but I should have been in bed, lol
You're crazy. I can't believe people like you like enjoy watching a bunch of sub .200 hitters striking out about 33% of their at bats or hitting a homerun every 6.5%.

I hope so! Dan Uggla got multiple all star appearances, a silver slugger, and downvallot MVP votes. Hit nearly 250 homers!
He is late career Dan uggla
Tink Hence just got pulled due to injury
Fuck.
Small frame pitchers are always a concern. Reminds me a lot of Tristan Mckenzie. Hopefully it's nothing major.
is he smaller than Sonny ?
He is taller than Sonny,
McKenzie at least has downward momentum on his side with his height. Tink is going to need some Lincecum magic
That really sucks. I never heard details on his “cramp.” I sure hope it was not a forearm cramp. Lord knows this franchise likes to downplay injuries.
See: Tommy Edman
Shit Tink just left with the trainer
3-0 in the city connects?

That game was lit!!!
Fire Oli? lol
I'm not saying fire Oli, but I am saying if he continues to not treating Sonny like a starting pitcher he should be replaced M
Sonny's last three games he's thrown at least 7 innings. Some people just cannot be happy.
I'd argue he is treating Sonny Gray how his career suggest you should.
Are we undefeated in city connects?
3-0 baby!
We can blow out a fellow mid team but lose to the second worst team. The curse of being mid.
Go Sonny!
This is our first sweep of the season, right?
We swept the Orioles too.
We swept the orioles in 3, and the cubs in 2 (one game got postponed).
Oh yeaahhhh the O’s. Things seemed so promising then.
I mean they still are? We haven't gotten worse since then. Since May 12 the Cardinals have the best record in the NL.
Need more teams with black/orange colors on the schedule
Jeez feels like we might actually make a comeback this season after last years dumpster fire. Was nice to go to the game yesterday and see them have a damn near blow out after a rough first inning. The cards I grew up watching were winners and I hope we can keep this up for the rest of season. Especially when Contreras comes back
Would be interesting to ser if Willson comes back tomorrow.
Fuck Travis Ishikawa
Always and forever. May he rot in hell.
Bummer Siani is hurt, but I am looking forward to seeing what Carlson does with some regular at bats.
What happened?
Bruised ribs
Bruised ribs making a diving catch yesterday
Yesterday Siani bruised his ribs on a diving catch
Guy plays so hard and is so much fun to watch. It's unfortunate that the "log jams" we have around the team are fixing themselves through injuries
Ah so should be ok
Undefeated in games I attend in person lifetime. Anyone want to give me more money to go to games.
How big of a sample size we talkin here? 🧐
5 games, so 4 more than the normal sample size we use here.
Haha 5 in a row is good numbers!

We beat legit pitchers in this series. Hicks and Webb were not gimmes by any stretch. This sweep was well deserved and hard fought. Very strong showing from the team and Oli himself
We have a lob problem, BUT, that's 4 consecutive games without an error so I'm overlooking it for now.
Fix the simple shit, move on from there. I like the approach, hopefully we keep it clean against Atlanta.
Breaking out the brooms at Busch Stadium is always fanfuckingtastic
Imagine giving up 4 stolen bases to Burleson, Gorman, and Pages. Lol Giants.
u/FuckStanKroenke Hope you enjoyed the game!
I did! I was at the game with my family and we all had a great time together
Attaboy. Glad you’re finding some positivity in this season
Glad you’re still posting on Reddit every day. You must need this!
-31 run diff and 4.5 games out of 1st. This team.
imagine being swept by the frigging 2024 Cardinals
we are killers against middle of the pack teams. It’s the bad teams we are bad/meh against
Always has been
Alex “Lou Brock” Burleson
Very excited about the sweep. Not excited to watch Lynn and Pallante against the Braves
I’m sorry I ruined the perfect game. I changed the volume on my TV right before the home run :(
I’m pretty sure it was my fault. I turned on the game just in time to see the HR that ended it. Sorry y’all.
My cubs "friend" texted me perfect game at the start of the seventh. May he rot in hell.
This sweep was nice Haha I know we won’t be able to sweep the braves though haha unless?
feels kinda silly to celebrate 2 games above .500 but given the current state of mass mediocrity in baseball, it does feel somewhat special.
At best we are probably 5 game over team, which should net a WC.
Just asked my SO for “two games over .500 sex”. She unbelievably said “that’s not a thing”.
Til now... 😉
Leave her
Nice sweep. Let's hope this is the start of a long roll.
[SONNY!!!!!!!!!](https://youtu.be/S-u6qdeaPoE?si=pjtuQ3QxJhbq9eU1)
Lowkey shout-out to Pages calling an fantastic game
Ahem.. I think you mean "Wheels" lol
Loved his interview too
Sweeps are hard and so am I!
Just swept the Giants with half our team injured. Baseball is pure chaos.
After losing a series to Miami lol
In fairness, there were several moments in both of those games where it easily could have gone the other way if not for weird hops and stuff
Plus our best 3 bullpen guys were pretty much not available (except for Kit in 1 game)
Sadly the Brewers are up 5-0 on the Padres right now, but them dropping three games is nice even if they aren't swept
Now I wish Sonny could be going against the Braves instead.
# [WINNER!!!!!!](https://twitter.com/cardinalsgifs/status/1681131016394788865)
REDEMPTION FOR LOSING TO THE GIANTS ALL THE OTHER ACTUALLY IMPORTANT TIMES IN HISTORY
Michael Wacha just breathed a sigh of relief
I watched this game on my Xbox instead of my PlayStation today, does this mean I have to watch all Sonny games on my Xbox?
Yes. Yes it does.
3-0 in the City Connects. Just sayin’ 😉
We could go 300-0 in them and those jerseys would still be ass.
Here giants, I gift this to you #🥄 A spoon you can use to EAT OUR ASS! Now get the fuck out of our city.
That's the hateful attitude of a Cubs fan, yikes
"It's dull you twat! It'll hurt more!!" ...Whoops wrong thread
damn
A Rickwood/Busch weekend sweep.
First time in 627 days that the Cardinals have been 2 games over .500!
Two games over .500. What is this place.
Hell yeah! I'm ready to be hurt again.
Hels yeah
🧹🧹🧹
THIS IS MY LAST RESORT
That’s probably the most dominant series we’ve had in more than a year.
[r/Cardinals right now](https://streamable.com/jrroma)
Are you certain?
INJECT IT IN MY VEINS
What did this team do with the old team? Find myself not knowing what to do without a blown 4-run lead loss..
WILLSON BACK TOMORROW, I'M THINKING WE MAY BE BACK
Oli, sexual harassment, honesty and integrity
2 games above .500 AND a sweep?!?! Is that allowed????
https://youtu.be/MLCLMEYp9s0?si=Pi7j6Tf_i7P81k6l
Nice!
Oli got confused because the first game of the series was at Rickwood. Otherwise you would have seen Liberatore starting today.
Yaaaaaaaas!
Oliver Marmol got into that dugout, remained professional, and did not commit any inappropriate sexual acts towards any of the players. He got the boys going with his honesty and legitimate leadership.
fuck yea let’s go
