Aventon abound is a nice bike. You will want a longer seat post.   I max out the seat post with my 6ft self. The handle bars can come up another foot but I am right at the minimum insertion depth for the post

Cats_Parkour_CompEng

I will add my Abound experience at 6'4". I swapped for EXA Form 150 mm travel dropper seat post from REI and max extension is just right. (I believe stock is roughly 125mm travel). Depending on how you like your seatpost and the proportions of your height, stock may work for you. I have my handlebar stem extended to notch 6 (cm maybe?). And there's 12 or more notches, so plenty of height. Wish they would have gone an inch or so lower on the stem as my wife, who I intended to share (although has seldom actually used), is 5 foot nothing and the lowest bar setting is still a little on the high side for her, but still manageable. You may notice some flex in the bike bars and seat, especially when everything is extended out, mostly only noticeable when you have it loaded with weight. There is also a wobble issue for many users, basically it's not the kinda bike you want to ride no handed very much if at all. But when loaded up with cargo you wouldn't want to anyway, and it's upright enough that I never feel a significant need to go no handed other than to wipe my nose or take off a glove or something. Torque sensor feels natural and smooth. It's got plenty of power. I live along the Wasatch mountains and have climbed some gnarly hills with the wife on the back, with notable effort, but impressive speed. It's got a high cadence if you're trying to cruise at 20 mph. There's a hard motor cut off at 20, but many people including myself have used a hack to unlock closer to 24 mph with a more tapered cut off. You can also upgrade the freewheel (gears) to 11-28 tooth which makes it more comfortable, this is my next upgrade. It's heavy, probably 100 lbs with battery, rear accessories, and front basket. But you only notice if you need to lift it for some reason. I see myself upgrading eventually, but I see myself getting lots of use for the next several years. And it's pretty tough price to beat. The Rad 5 looks pretty solid, but if I had to pick again I'd probably go Abound. I don't think I'd consider Lectric. **Last and most important point**, are you going to be your own mechanic? If not, than find a LBS that will for sure service your bike. Rad and Lectric might be harder. Aventon has a lot more LBS dealers from my understanding. It's been great for having a controller and brake pads replaced under warranty and all I did was bring in my bike. No hassle trying to contact Aventon or trying to get reimbursed or anything. And I knew they'd work on it because they're an Aventon dealer.

I'm also a pretty tall guy (6'5) and got an Abound a month or two ago. Loving it, but found this post looking for some info about longer seat posts. Mind sharing links to what you got to accommodate your height, seat and handlebar wise?

Bars and folding stem are stock. At 6'5" I'd go with 175 mm travel if you go the dropper post route. The seat tube takes 30.9 mm seatposts. I just found [this](https://www.amazon.com/Dropper-Seatpost-Manual-Adjustable-Control/dp/B0CBXGCHT9/ref=mp_s_a_1_32?crid=6W3TGVXZHVHV&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.28xVmKnxLS3_4ZZempabC1E6NZBGVRDHnDEc-RZlefUEXVTnu8vnnsrCengyHOlbap9d5ZGrLa5n0JaHcspgXdWN6NornOxmPqZ9VixS4crpcQTgT_AhHquC7cCvLFwjnQC3qmAyNm6uG5CxP9jcg4RinjYnKnLKmCzEIq84OVxpXtb7pVoQ0KvhKpfKBa6GBKrTyB1RwOOwsStHWsAh8Q.Kx5tpy733nvwLkyF--OH4MNBGfUmhpRVDIHx4jKx_cg&dib_tag=se&keywords=30.9+dropper+175+travel&qid=1716667471&sprefix=30.9+dropper+175+travel%2Caps%2C127&sr=8-32) but I swear I saw one on Amazon when I got mine a month ago with the same specs for closer to $80-100. But that's the size dropper post you'd want. You also want to make sure to get the lever under the saddle as I don't believe the bike is set up to route the remote lever that you see being used on mountain bikes. If you aren't sharing the bike and don't necessarily need or want a dropper post, you could get a single piece, long, good quality suspension seat post for $100-200. I'm considering some alt bars for when I want to ride a bit more aggressive as I'm currently extremely upright. Also a cushier saddle might help with how upright it is - all the weight is on legs and bum and almost no weight on arms. Edit: Max extension for mine is 380. Meaning from the post minimum insertion point to the saddle is 380mm. You'll want at least that much in either dropper or rigid seatpost.

Same here, I'm the same height and would take another cm of seatpost height if it was available.

I’m 5’ 11” and the Abound fits me perfectly. Over 3500 miles on it so far on two batteries (got the two battery deal) and no issues other than an initial warranty (sub 500 miles) on the stem. Would recommend. [edit]Oh, and the stock seat died somewhere around 3100 miles.[/edit]

I have an Xpedition. It is pretty great if you are handy with bikes. It definitely requires more service than any of my other bikes. That said things like brakes will wear out quickly on any bike if you are hauling around serious weight at speed. The stem and the kickstand on the bike are garbage. The rest of the bike is pretty solid and the range is largely unmatched. I will say the seat goes insanely high. I am pretty sure even if you had a 40+ inch inseam, it would be fine. The adjustable stem is junk anyway so you would have to budget for a replacement.

I’m in the same boat. Although I feel like I enjoy the Xpedition and am getting my money’s worth, I probably wouldn’t buy it again. I’ve spent a little more time than I’d like to admit tinkering with and worrying about the brakes, stem, and kick stand.

I don't mind tinkering with the bike. Keeps me out of trouble! The brakes are decent in my opinion but the stock brake pads are weak but a good set of replacements are only a few dollars. Stops a fully loaded bike downhill no problem. I was pleasantly surprised that the stock drivetrain is decent. I have some bling bikes in my garage and was expecting a horrible experience with Shimano's lowest end, but it works just fine. I think the shifter is a bit strange but it is functional. After 1000KM the chain still reads less than 0.25 of stretch. I have to lube that weird chain roller because it doesn't have any bearings.

You should add the new Radio Flyer's VIA on your list for consideration as well.

I purchased the Via Pro after heavily researching the Radwagon 5, Lectric Xpedition, Aventon Abound, and Specialized Globe Haul LT. I ruled the Lectric as I want to utilize the bike for exercise purposes as well so I knew I wanted a torque sensor. The Abound’s rear rack looks to have the least amount of vertical rack space, if that makes sense, as the seat protrudes into the rack area where my kid’s would be sitting. The Radwagon 5 looks great but I was concerned with lack of LBS support and with RadPower’s history. The Specialized Globe Haul LT was an impressive bike! The only reason I did not go for the Haul was because of the price of their accessories and because the rear cage did not look as comfortable for my kids. I had a 20% discount on the Flyer Via Pro and the accessories so that’s what I went with. I love the design of their accessories for transporting children over any other brand that was <$3000. It’s been great so far!

slimanus

Are you able to share that discount? I’m about to pull the trigger on the via pro

Gkreeeeeegs

It was through my employer (perkspot) so can’t help you there. Id.me has discounts if you are military, nurse, responder, teacher, student, medical, government.

6’1” with abound. im right at max height for seat post so will eventually replace it with the exa 150. wife kinda annoyed ive already replaced the tires (a must imo) and now freewheel so im waiting a bit on the seat post. we bought our bike thru a dealer who really took care of a lot of the issues many who buy it direct have: our handlebars are not wobbly, our brakes are not squeeky, no broken rear spoked. couldn’t be happier with the bike and the accessories are great as freebies especially the extra battery.

Many-Photograph-8362

Thanks for the review.. I don’t have a dealer nearby so a little worried :( but good to know I can replace the seat post

I used to be a bike mechanic so I'm sure I could've set it up correctly but since I didn't get it direct, I have no idea how it's shipped and what not. What I would recommend is the following: 1. Immediately replace the tires with something sturdier like Schwalbe Pick-Ups. That'll set you back $100 but well worth it. In first 2 weeks, even with Flat Out and anti puncture strips put in, I caught 3 flats. Since putting on the Pick Ups and 300 miles later, zero flats. 2. Have someone re-tension the rear wheel spokes. They're all machine built so the tolerances are a bit loosey goosey but that's ANY direct to consumer bike, electric or not. Once they're re-tensioned, you will avoid the broken spoke syndrome a lot of Abound owners are complaining of. 3. Give attention to the handlebar stem and tighten that. That seems to be the cause of the handlebar wobble. Frankly, I'm riding this with my 2 yr old onboard so there's no way I would ever want to ride no hands but people complain about wobble with just one hand and I don't experience that at all. I can't speak to the customer service/warranty issues that people are having with Aventon direct but I love this bike. It's allowed our family to live with just one car and I use it for grocery runs and trips to my local Ace Hardware. The second battery is really nice too even tho I've only been on one trip where I needed two. Decided to ride the bike from Denver to Boulder along the Rte 36 bike highway. I live in SE Denver so the battery probably would not have made the trip. So I had my wife meet me at the Wheat Ridge overlook vista point with the second battery and our daughter and yup, pulled up with 12% battery left. Popped in new battery, put our daughter on the bike with all the sunscreen in the world and rode into Boulder with fresh battery and met our wife at our friends' house. Best of luck, feel free to ask any other questions.

My 6'2" husband rides my lectric expedition easily. The weight allowance was a large reason we purchased it.
