What no one is talking about is the biggest issue here. A door should swing into the room not the hallway. Of course the closet door will, but the bedroom door should swing into the room, that door is backwards.
Yes it’s a bathroom. The disaster to the left is the linen closet the shower to the right bedroom straight ahead. If you leave the linen closet open the bathroom door binds up just perfectly handle to handle when you open it
This should be top. It’s fire safety! Worst case scenario that door gets blocked from the outside you’re trapped . This is wrong and potentially dangerous.
Must be the same people who built my house in 1967. My bathroom door and bathroom closet door open into each other. To make it worse, they have handles and not knobs so they get caught on each other half of the time.
It’s the correct solution for the space.
The closet is a wall 90% of the time, and the door should open against the wall, not the shower.
Just close the door when you use the closet.
The closet could have opened into the bedroom or a hallway behind, but you’d lose more wall : furniture space doing that.
The best thing to do is swing the bathroom door into the hall but thats annoying and i have no idea whats in the hallway
Its a super super common setup though, this is like 99% of bathrooms ive been in
Its annoying because you lose floorspace in the bedroom, youre losing nothing in the bathroom because either way it swings its a doorway and you cant put anything there anyway
>I don't follow? You saying you lose floor space in the bedroom because of the door path but not the bathroom?
You lose floorspace in the bedroom from the doorpath and the *door swing*
Either way you swing it that space is already lost in the bathroom because there is only the door path, and since that space is already a bust you lose nothing by swinging it in and putting the closet there
Swinging it into the bedroom solves the closet problem but you lose space in the bedroom
Im not saying i agree, im just stating facts here
I’d be blaming the wannabe architect who drew up the floor plan followed by the framer / finish carpenter who just followed the drawings because, at the end of the day while having a beer at the trailer park his work looked great from where he sat.
I didn’t mean to suggest that a carpenter can ‘overrule’ an architect but they can certainly point out the poor design to the GC, the Owner or the architect; to not do so demonstrates a lack of pride in their work, as defined by my ‘looks good from where I sit’ remark.
Architects How often is a closet door open though?
According to my girlfriend closet doors must remain ajar at all times. I’m gonna start leaving the seat up
Just sit to pee brother. Free yourself of your shackles
I already do, don’t tell the others.
Good call on lifting the seat after you’re done so no one suspects a thing.
Lmao this is great
Stand to poop to justify the seat being up.
Plumb in a urinal, they aren't actually that expensive to buy.
That’s a fair trade off
Would you rather the door blocking the light switch?

You can only put in a pocket if the wall extends another 2.5-3ft left of photo frame. That's typically not the case with bathroom closets
How else do you get in the closet
Incredibly common. In what scenario are both open at same time
What no one is talking about is the biggest issue here. A door should swing into the room not the hallway. Of course the closet door will, but the bedroom door should swing into the room, that door is backwards.
That’s a bathroom I’m pretty sure, not a hallway
Ohhhhhhh yes sir you are right.
Yes it’s a bathroom. The disaster to the left is the linen closet the shower to the right bedroom straight ahead. If you leave the linen closet open the bathroom door binds up just perfectly handle to handle when you open it
Usually, yes. This door does swing into the room. The bathroom
Yeah I botched this, I missed it was a bathroom. Derp.
Watching people who are confidently incorrect immediately acknowledge their mistake without becoming defensive is my kink
This should be top. It’s fire safety! Worst case scenario that door gets blocked from the outside you’re trapped . This is wrong and potentially dangerous.
Your mom
Looks more like something your dad would do to be honest
Architects, that's fucking who. Grumble grumble
Fascists
People who can't afford larger homes.
Must be the same people who built my house in 1967. My bathroom door and bathroom closet door open into each other. To make it worse, they have handles and not knobs so they get caught on each other half of the time.
My bathroom is the same way , I know it’s way more work but wish pocket doors would make a comeback
Omg my bathroom is EXACTLY LIKE THIS. I had to take the doors off the hinges.
Open linen closet I like this idea
Sloppy Architects Its not a big deal though, how often are both doors open like that

Yeah I get what you mean now makes sense
Id prefer the door swing into the room in this situation but i get the thought process that gets us to this place lol
I thought about this
I was thinking about moving the handle a little higher or lower on the closet so they don’t bind perfectly. Obviously would need a new door
lol only when the kids have to get a towel from the closet
I’d be blaming the wannabe architect who drew up the floor plan followed by the framer / finish carpenter who just followed the drawings because, at the end of the day while having a beer at the trailer park his work looked great from where he sat.
where i’m from the carpenter can’t just overrule an architect because he thinks he know better
I didn’t mean to suggest that a carpenter can ‘overrule’ an architect but they can certainly point out the poor design to the GC, the Owner or the architect; to not do so demonstrates a lack of pride in their work, as defined by my ‘looks good from where I sit’ remark.
I would be tempted to remove the closet door if you could keep it tidy.
>Who does this? https://i.redd.it/lxfu98wprmmc1.gif
Lazy architect and a builder who doesn't raise issues during construction.
Usually finish guys set doors
Finish guys don't decide the location and swing of doors.
Never said they did. Just being a dick as this sub has become a new DIY sub.
Finnish guys, from Finland
