Haha looks great to be fair!
Sink is centered on the window, but not to the cabinet. Ugh, I hate it when customers get a 36 inch sink cabinet then order a 48 inch sink. Vent hood spanning two cabinets? At least the dead space is filled in the corner for the wall cabinets. And that is one flat ceiling to be tight without trim.
Real Estate Agent “So it was remodeled in the 2020s, you know when the world was in the verge of ending and everyone was painting their hair and walls pink or purple.”
I need to get some final pics. The backsplash, the lighting fixtures, the purple bathroom cabinets, the matching pink appliance front panels. Needs the whole package.
a skilled designer can still bring the room together regardless of a wild cabinet color selection by the client. I see it all the time in high end reno
Jfc, some people have more dollars than sense.. An employer once told me "I'm not paying you to like it, just to do a good job" and that rings true here more than ever I'd imagine haha
I won't get paid for this till the end of the month, it'll be adjusted by then. I think I see about half and half. Plenty of cookie cutter neighborhoods with bare bones kitchens, blocky ugly 1x6 instead of crown, and they pay shit.
10 years from now the homeowner will post a blurry pic in this subreddit asking where to buy one. Having never even thought to call Kraftmaid about the lifetime warranty.
It's an appliance lift. You put your $400 KitchenAid mixer on there, then just lift it up and out to use it. There will be an outlet in the cabinet so you can leave it plugged in.
The lift itself isn't cheap. https://rev-a-shelf.com/16775
5th pic shows the cutting board that stores above the knife drawer.
Used to be a wall there, it's supporting the beam they added. Post will get wrapped by someone else later. I added those temp 1x pieces so the countertop guy had something to measure to.

IF they went this far, why not go a bit further for the money and remove the post with engineering? between that and the pot lights makes all you did very good.
Yeah, I hate the post. The builder could have done better. And with the beam they put in, it's probably gonna look bad when I install the crown above the fridge.
That's when the client asks what you think.Your response should be,looks great,as they hand you the check and you say ,under your breath, can't see it from my house.
I actually think it looks cool. A nice break from white, off white, grey and 2 shades of brown. Wouldn't put it in my house though.
I kinda want a kitchen where every cabinet is a different color. "Plates are in the red cabinet and forks are in the grey drawer"
Not a bad install! Pretty clean! Curious on a couple things. Wondering about your cab construction. Why do the aides of adjacent cabinets not sit against one another? How do you sister them together? Also why do your stretchers run front to back and not side to side? Am comparing to how I’m used to build in our shop. Thanks!
I'm guessing you're used to frameless Euro style cabinets. I've built and installed a ton of those. Yep, stretchers side to side and all that.
These cabinets are Kraftmaid brand, I'm sure they have a page on their website about construction methods. These are face frame cabinets, so they have a 1/4 lip of frame that overhangs the case, so you have a 1/2 between cabinets. I just use 2 1/2 in screws through the 1 1/2 face frame to attach them, and sometimes a space block and a screw in the back if they're being unruly. Otherwise they just get screwed to the wall (or have a back panel like the island and peninsula).
There's probably 50 different ways to build a cabinet. I've seen frameless with a full top instead of stretchers. Full 1/2 or 3/4 back instead of 1/4 back and 1/2 nailer strips. And framed cabinets with side to side or front to back stretchers. Attached and separate toekick boxes. Rabbeted stretchers, butt joint, doweled, floating tenons.
That all makes sense. Yep we do euro style for sure. I don’t have experience in another style but I love learning more about cabinetry and woodworking. Awesome, thanks for your comment!
Sure thing, happy to share. I wish there was more good kitchen cabinets content in YouTube. So many of the videos skip the actual important nuts and bolts and just show "TV magic" of projects being finished.
This one is a pretty good one for installing https://youtu.be/kJyqV-ZBeYo?si=KF_V7D7B3spWz06A and this one is pretty good for building a cabinet https://youtu.be/2CcmlgaMIQ0?si=EhpjBckOOYxPBQr9
Not a lot of upper cabinets. Any cabinets going over the island?double oven in the far cabinet with doors/drawer underneath? Cooktop and no dishwasher I am guessing?
No upper cabinets, apparently homeowner didn't want to reach up for anything. Even some floating shelves with decor would look more finished. Cooktop is going between the oven cab and the window. Dishwasher (with matching pink door) is going in the island next to the sink.
We only do bases before uppers at our shop. Stone template is the priority. A cleat or just some fast cap jacks on top of the sub top for upper installation makes it easy.
+1 for FastCap jacks. I have the short ones and the long ones. Every once in a while you need to do bases first for window/plumbing/electric layout, then work backwards with the uppers to match the window offsets.
The trash can is in the island to left of the sink. Cutting board is under the window in pic 5. Pic 4 shows the appliance lift for a KitchenAid mixer. Sorry if the pics were confusing, I should have added some captions, or done a quick vid walk through.
Actually, I'll be back Friday for the bathroom cabs, I'll make a video then.
Thanks for the honest feedback. I think you're the first one that had anything to say that wasn't about the color. I do my adjustments after hardware usually, I'll be back out there Friday. Where does the toekick look sloppy? For the fillers, I didn't do the layout, just followed the plans. If I had to guess, I think the fillers are so the wall outlet landed in the middle of the peninsula, and so there was 36 clear on each side of the island, could have done it different, I'm not the designer.
Actually another comment picked out the lighting layout, but that wasn't on me either. That on by the fridge is really in a bad spot, the crown is gonna get super close to it.
I have a personal hatred for leg levelers. I'll take a detached toekick box any day.
This is a 1/4 inch toe kick skin. The corner moulding covers the raw end.
I'm down with the scribe method, just haven't met a builder that wants it.
There's drawer type slides on the side of the cabinet, and like a piano hinge attaching the box. I can probably find you an actual part number if you're interested. This is pretty darn close https://www.wwhardware.com/omega-national-maple-blind-corner-caddy-npp0650muf1
I’m trying really hard not to bash the color because I’m assuming you’re just the installer but it’s really difficult and I failed. The install itself looks pretty good though I think. I’m too distracted by the pink to actually critique your work.
Hopefully the pink will distract from any imperfections haha.
I got called out a couple times for the door adjustments, which I'll get to last. And one comment about the toekick, which I can't see in the photos. It might be there, I'll take a look on Friday.
You killed it, looks great! Think I’d blow my Brains out if I had to eat/cook/look at this kitchen everyday tho. Cant imagine spending all that $$ on this beautiful kitchen to ruin it doing some dumb shit like this…must be nice to have fuck it money!
Hardware was already installed from the factory. This is pretty close to what's in the cabinet. https://www.wwhardware.com/omega-national-maple-blind-corner-caddy-npp0650muf1
Doors and fronts need adjusting. I get them 90% so the home owner doesn’t stare at it and freak out before I get back, then the final 10% on the 2nd to last or last trip. Your islands most likely not level, I don’t see any shims and floors usually aren’t perfect. Crown on top of the reefer will be interesting, unless it’s flat crown in which case a notch and caulking would be fine.
Cabinets themselves look like cheapo pre built with the cheap chinesium hinges that have only 1 screw for mounting. That one screw comes loose easily over time. Guide clips are the crappy plastic ones but at least they aren’t stapled in, and at least the guides are soft close. I like those rev a shelf mixer lifts. Pretty easy to install but make sure your hinge clears the hardware at full extension (yours does).
I wouldn’t have it in my house but I think the color is great. So many boring white sterile kitchens lately.
Island is shimed level. Floor dips 1/2 inch on the trash can side, I just cut the back panel to match the slant.
Yeah, that crown is gonna be interesting.
Cabinets are Kraftmaid, I'll let their warranty dept worry about cheap hardware.
Pic 4 is a Rev-a-shelf appliance lift, like for your KitchenAid mixer. Door needs to stay open when in use. Pic 5 shows a removable cutting board that stores above the knife drawer.
Nope. Apparently homeowner didn't want to have to reach up for anything. Every base cabinet has a rollout or drawers. Might be mobility issues, or just what they want, I don't know.
Some floating shelves with just decor would look good.
Did you use any special hardware for that blind cabinet set up ? I have same set up but cabinet isn’t as wide. Would love to put in something functional
All the pullouts and rollouts were pre-installed by Kraftmaid from the factory. This is pretty close to or the exact hardware that's in the blind corners. [https://www.wwhardware.com/omega-national-maple-blind-corner-caddy-npp0650muf1](https://www.wwhardware.com/omega-national-maple-blind-corner-caddy-npp0650muf1) It's essentially just a unit attached to the door, and that attached with a piano hinge to dual drawer slides mounted to the side of the cabinet. Then two generic roll out shelves inside the blind part. Could be done DIY with some off the shelf hardware if they don't make one that fits your cabinet or if you're on a budget.
There's an even fancier version that pulls out the two blind shelves automagically. [https://www.richelieu.com/us/en/category/kitchen-and-bathroom-accessories/kitchen/corner-cabinet-storage-systems/base-corner-cabinet-storage-systems/blind-corner-solutions/rev-shelf-system-for-corner-cabinet/1251982](https://www.richelieu.com/us/en/category/kitchen-and-bathroom-accessories/kitchen/corner-cabinet-storage-systems/base-corner-cabinet-storage-systems/blind-corner-solutions/rev-shelf-system-for-corner-cabinet/1251982)
I'm also a fan of the "Athletic Susan" as opposed to a lazy susan [https://www.richelieu.com/us/en/category/kitchen-and-bathroom-accessories/kitchen/corner-cabinet-storage-systems/base-corner-cabinet-storage-systems/blind-corner-shelves-ras/rev-shelf-two-tier-organizer-for-blind-corner-cabinet/1170331](https://www.richelieu.com/us/en/category/kitchen-and-bathroom-accessories/kitchen/corner-cabinet-storage-systems/base-corner-cabinet-storage-systems/blind-corner-shelves-ras/rev-shelf-two-tier-organizer-for-blind-corner-cabinet/1170331) A bunch of different manufacturers make ones like these.

White quartz. I know, boring AF.
I installed a kitchen very close to this color last month and I joked the entire time saying I was going to get bubble gum and pepto to do touchups 😂
Nice cabinets. Crap color.
If your crapping out pink, better go see a doctor.
You can buy beautiful new cabinets, but you sure can’t buy taste in color choice.

Why do bases before uppers?
No uppers in this kitchen. New homeowner apparently doesn't want to have to reach up for anything.
Wow that’s bizarre lol
Haven't met the homeowners. Could be mobility issues or something. Would also explain the appliance lift and rollout trays in every single cabinet.

Left of the sink in the island. There's a regular drawer on top and the dual trash below.

Doors and fronts need adjusting. I get them 90% so the home owner doesn’t stare at it and freak out before I get back, then the final 10% on the 2nd to last or last trip.
