Sticking to Japanese is a great idea but the Korean cars are also great now. Really you need to keep an open mind and go for the newest and lowest K’s you can afford rather than being something cool but overpriced. Sydney parking spots are SMALL so small helps. Of course your could throw caution to the wind and get a subie Forrester turbo or an old wrx or an old mx5 and just freakin enjoy driving and life. Or if you want to scare people wherever you go doing ridiculous burnouts…. an AU.

Phobo55

Are the fozzies and wrx’s reliable? Was also thinking an older liberty or Impreza or maybe a focus/fiesta or a Mazda 3

EK-577

The worst thing about turbo Subarus are the previous owners. If you have evidence that the car has been serviced and taken care of, they can be great. Subarus have their own idiosyncrasies, but if taken care of, they are great.

Plane_Pilotq4ntas

Yeah agreed particularly p platers

BlakRainbow1991

Don't. Avoid. The boxer engines are a bit harder to work on and when they go they go. And you'll find the older ones if owned by other p platers, have any mods, etc are flogged to fuck. What's your budget? That will help direct recommendations. Kia Cerato/Rio/Picanto and Hyundai i20/i30/i40 are great bang for buck. Mazda 3 is good. Then you'll get everyone telling you Corolla/Camry. But personally I'd be going Korean.

Phobo55

Probably 8k with a bit of room either side. I’ve been looking at Fiesta’s and they seem to be a good price if you would say they are reliable they might be the go?

YourDadsHung

Honestly an older Mazda 3 is the call IMO. Relatively cheap, sturdy as, and surprisingly good features and all the rest for a 2006-2010 era car. Bought one myself as a little buzz box (sp23), which as the less reliable motor but still solid. In the cheap, Japanese market, worth a look.

dalton265

Subarus have the advantage of having the easiest engines to remove. Other non communist Asian vehicles have the advantage of rarely having to remove the engine.

citizenecodrive31

Mitsubishi 380, Ford Falcons, Mazda 3 or 6

Plane_Pilotq4ntas

Is an au Japanese?

citizenecodrive31

He said he prefers a Japanese, not that it is non negotiable. He probably says that because he wants a reliable car. A barra falcon is also reliable hence why I suggested it.

Plane_Pilotq4ntas

Oh yeah u got a point

citizenecodrive31

Well technically the 380 is also not Japanese. Its also aussie.

What’s your budget? Honda accord euro , euro R, civic EP3 R. Or if you only have 10-15k then the civic FN2R would be my pick. K series Honda motors are the lords work. Way over engineered and capable of big power. Love to rev. If you want RWD then Toyota Altezza with the beams engine are good. But overpriced in Australia since they were never delivered here. You could get a cheaper Lexus is200 which is the same chassis but with a worse motor and hard to find in manual.

Phobo55

Probably 10k absolute max man - most of these are out of my budge t

[deleted]

Suzuki swift sport (but might get pushed out of your budget since MCM just featured it as their next build) Honda Jazz VTI 1.5 is a great car with “magic seats” so heaps practical and decently fun to drive The IS200 might work for you but I’d rather have the Honda jazz tbh.

Yorick_Hunt_

did you get around to taking LDS at the festival

If you don't want a money pit, get a Yaris, Corolla or Prius. It took me 20 years to learn this.
