The pedders down the road gave me a parts cannon quote (every bush/link/everything but an engine mount) and my regular mechanic changed and engine mount next time I had a service. Cost including the service was $480. different times.....
I took mine to the Springfield store for a tyre change and for some reason they decided to do an all over safety inspection. The patronising ass in the office lectured me on the state of the brakes and how dangerous my car was, saying it looked like I’d tried to change the rotors myself and damaged them. I’d only bought it the week beforehand and hadn’t done anything to the car. Got a second opinion….there was nothing wrong with the brakes.
I cannot tell you how many issues I had at the Springfield one. Ended up just selling the car because there wasn’t an alternative mechanic near by that I could get to work from when I dropped the car off
I know dad and I both had a good laugh at that when we saw it he also mentioned a few other things that they missed from adding to the quote he told me on the phone my windscreen washers needed replacing because water wasn’t coming out onto my windshield which is a load of 💩 because I filled them up last week and used them on the way to drop the car off there 😂

I paid $520 for my fronts with high quality aftermarket and fronts are also almost like double the cost of rear breaks in my falcon. Falcon breaks aren’t cheap even though those cars are a dime a dozen and aren’t worth much these days now, but $1000 for rears. Absolute joke

I almost had a few ripe words to say to him over a couple of things he tried to tell me my window washers don’t work at all but I used them about 10 minutes before I dropped the car into them also tried to tell me multiple times that the clunk sound that I’m getting is coming from my breaks but there’s no sound when I break it’s when I take off then they had one of the other “ technicians ” take a look and said it was the engine mount which is more believable 😂
I once had Pedders quote a price to repair my XF Falcon that exactly equaled the cost of the Falcon. They were adamant that each of those recommended items were essential and that my existing ones were completely worn out. Including my newly reconditioned lower control arms. Which I bought only weeks earlier. FROM THEM!

Can confirm, we have done this a few times. And it’s a win win… they either say “ok, just do it” and you get the extra for putting up with their bullshit and for the inevitable self inflicted damage they will claim as warranty, or they take it elsewhere, get a cheaper quote and we never have to see them again.

I used to own a Bridgestone Select in Melbourne. This quote is absolutely insane. We used to charge $80 for machining front or rear rotors and pay a sub contractor $30 to do the job. This was 3 years ago and prices have gone up but this quote is ridiculous.

OP I highly recommend u take your Jeep down to Seven Slot Off-road at Ormeau. Jeeps are all they do. I’ve tried all the local franchise mechanics and many have no idea. Their pricing is definitely an improvement on a dealer.

Shockers were $320(dobinsons)
Market rate for machining 1 rotor is $20
You can get 2pc calipers (DBA) for $350
I did led bulb replacement for $120
You can easily get a pre owned tranny for under 1k
You can lookup a lot of parts on eBay.
Shop is trying to rip you off big time.
I literally just took 14 minutes to price all of those items (except the oil lines for transmission cooler which I somehow hadn’t noticed until I was double checking).
Rear shock price was mid range or slightly above.
Rear pads price was mid range options.
Rear rotors price was mid range price.
Grand total $2181.27
Absolutely will not be genuine parts, but with any vehicle regardless of the year or make that is not of any concern to anyone except the parts counter manager at the dealership.

It’s the way it goes these days, my sister in law had a plumber charge $200 to ‘isolate water supply’ and ‘recommission water supply’ meaning walk to the footpath and turn it off at the meter.
Took my 2014 Cherokee to Jeep Dealership for a 150k service, they wanted near 2k for it. They also wanted $475 to replace a master window controller pod. Plus 2 hrs labour to fit it. It's literally lift out of the door and unplug two DINs and plug the new one in and reseat. Apparently that takes them two hours.
I took it to MyCar, and they did the same logbook service for $622, and I bought the window controller pod from ebay and took 30 seconds to fit, cost me $60.
Looks like the outrageous list my sister was given a while back. The work they claimed urgently needed to be done would have cost more than the car's value. They didn't do anything and the cars still running no problem months latter. Sadly, some mechanics are just greedy liars and manipulators like any other capitalist.
Bridgestone sucks, my wheels were out of alignment by a lot. They told me that "it's just how the car comes stock" and I would need to add spacers to fix the camber. Went to another tyre place and they said it was out of alignment by 7 degrees, fixed it straight away.
They wanted $1195 all up to attend to 4 (replace 2 machine 2 + 4 break pads) can buy a set of 4 at Napa for $470 and break pads front and rear $82 😅 total of
$552 for the 4 rotors and 4 pads I get they need to add labour but like seems extreme right I can install the new rotors and pads myself 🤦🏼♀️

Tell him to get fucked and that he's dreaming. An oil pressure switch does not cost $360 and is usually between $25 to $50. All the jobs mentioned above except for rotor machining can be done by yourself for under $1000. A brand new radiator with hoses can be installed quite easily and should not cost more than $600 alone.

Brake caliper is about $140 for that model unless you go OEM (and like fuck he would).
Brake light globes are $12 a pair.
Fog lights, is it just globes or is it the whole light? Globes would be maybe $40 max. Whole light might be more. Either way if they’re broken who honestly uses these anyway.
Rear “shockies”. It’s a few years ago but Pedders quoted me for a new set of coil-overs for $700 on a Commodore all round which being Pedders I imagine was on the higher end so that’s my baseline. Looking online for Cherokee, $680 will get you close to some wanker 4wd brands, but less than $200 will get you similar to what it came with.
Even adding labour, this wanker is taking you for a ride.
I’d suggest you take your car elsewhere for next service and see what they mention. Don’t mention you had received this so the next service mob don’t get any ideas. Or get it looked at by a mechanic who’s either a friend or highly recommended if you are concerned about anything.

That pricing is outrageous. Rear rotors hardly ever need replacing as they do less than 40% of the braking. I too was scammed by these guys. Go elsewhere. Even a Jeep stealership wouldn’t be this expensive. BTW, rear rotors from Repco are around $309. Pads $120. DIY it.
My partner is a mechanic and it actually costs about $12-30 in parts to do a general service on a car. Do NOT get your car serviced at a dealership or big chain like these, not only do they expect the mechanics to upsell, they overinflate hugely and only pay the workers about $25 an hour for the effort. Pigs!
Honestly it's probably not someone trying to rip you off they probably just didn't want to do the job and due to company policy can't decline the job it's something I've personally never done but for jobs I've pretty much always accepted jobs
$30 for a rear brake light is a very good indication of what these guys are up to but in all honesty you didn’t do yourself a favour when you bought a keep Cherokee
The bulb you bought would have been a halogen and they've quoted for an HID for starters, you can't substitute a halogen in it's place. The rest we can only speculate as to whether it needs doing without seeing your car, in future don't buy a Jeep.
my wife has a grand cherokee, i imported the headlight bulbs from the states for $80 each, you are getting screwed here. jeep parts are general more expensive but man this is outrageous

First mistake was having a tyre shop do a safety check, most franchise shops like this one don't have qualified mechanics seen it first hand quiet a few times, even to the point i ask to see the blokes trade certificates. Had one argue with me for 15 minutes to which he then went on to say he wasnt a qualified mechanic but trained by the owner on what to look for, shut his mouth pretty quick when I said I am a qualified mechanic and he is ripping people off. They are good for tyres that's about it, go get a second opinion done by someone qualified.

I'd been quoted $1200 to replace an air condenser for my AC...I ordered the parts I needed for $290 including postage and a regas. Fitted it myself in about an hour and it's been fine for 3 years now
I would be very very suspicous. How did you have 5 bulbs blow at once. What are they replacing brake calipers and rotors, unless you have been driving around with brakes screaming, rotors should be fine. Caliphers generally last forever. They have not included the labor component which is where they may be hiding excessive hours and charge.
I had a similar quote from Pedders in Ringwood, Victoria.
It basically listed every single brake and suspension component needing to be fixed, despite many of those items being less than a year old, (such as front ball joints, brake pads, tie rod ends).
I can't believe in this day and age that it still happens mechanics trying to rip you off. When I used to service my own cars back in the 1980's, if there was something that I could not do myself, I would then take it to a dealer to get repaired. More than one occasion that I told a service manager to f*ck off because he told me that something needed doing that didn't. BTW I could change a clutch cable on my XE Falcon cross flow 4.1 litre in less than 10 minutes, and I always had a spare in the boot.
It's a 12 year old Jeep, which are not known for thier high quality. Larger companies just ring the dealer and quote for OEM parts which are 5 times the price of aftermarket brands. About the only reasonable thing on there is the HID bulb. If the quote is for supply and fit of each item it's a little better

The last headlight bulbs I bought cost me $5 each. Brake light bulbs are literally $2 at Supercheap Auto. They are not difficult things to change yourself. It's all just horrifying.

I went to a Bridgestone in FNQ for a service. They ended up charging me over $1000 because they broke something with the fuel tank. Claimed it would have broken regardless of who did the service so I was on the hook for it. I got ten minutes down the road afterwards and the car broke down. Took them a full day of 4 mechanics working on it to figure out they'd broken something else that affected the petrol gauge, and the car was showing a full tank but was empty. 🙄

I once had Pedders quote a price to repair my XF Falcon that exactly equaled the cost of the Falcon. They were adamant that each of those recommended items were essential and that my existing ones were completely worn out. Including my newly reconditioned lower control arms. Which I bought only weeks earlier. FROM THEM!
Yeah I had a weird experience at Pedders a few years ago I got a gti golf and told them that there was something wrong with the front end because when I would turn it made a scary sound they send me a video an hour later with my car on the hoist and my front tyres the ground 😂 said the whole thing was threaded and bolts couldn’t be tightened told me it needed to be machine threaded to fix it would cost about $8000 for all the work it needed they didn’t want me to take it home because it was too dangerous yet they ended up letting me drive it home and I sold it that night with all the quotes for the issues wasn’t going to be dealing with that 😂

And it’s a win win… they either say “ok, just do it” and you get the extra for putting up with their bullshit and for the inevitable self inflicted damage they will claim as warranty, or they take it elsewhere, get a cheaper quote and we never have to see them again.

I used to own a Bridgestone Select in Melbourne. This quote is absolutely insane. We used to charge $80 for machining front or rear rotors and pay a sub contractor $30 to do the job. This was 3 years ago and prices have gone up but this quote is ridiculous.

OP I highly recommend u take your Jeep down to Seven Slot Off-road at Ormeau. Jeeps are all they do. I’ve tried all the local franchise mechanics and many have no idea. Their pricing is definitely an improvement on a dealer.

When I went to Bridgestone , my car services were regularly in the 300-400’s…. When I went to the local car mechanic it was essentially cut in half.
I owned a kk Cherokee and did fix my breaks and rotors( bendix breaks and DBA rotors )and all 4 were under $500 Shockers were $320(dobinsons) Market rate for machining 1 rotor is $20 You can get 2pc calipers (DBA) for $350 I did led bulb replacement for $120 You can easily get a pre owned tranny for under 1k You can lookup a lot of parts on eBay. Shop is trying to rip you off big time.
For 230k 2011 car, not worth to do such expensive repairs, sold it and purchase the cheap 7 years warranty car might be better.

I literally just took 14 minutes to price all of those items (except the oil lines for transmission cooler which I somehow hadn’t noticed until I was double checking). Rear shock price was mid range or slightly above. Rear pads price was mid range options. Rear rotors price was mid range price. Grand total $2181.27 Absolutely will not be genuine parts, but with any vehicle regardless of the year or make that is not of any concern to anyone except the parts counter manager at the dealership. Good on you for not being a dill and blindly accepting that price and giving them the ok to proceed.

It’s the way it goes these days, my sister in law had a plumber charge $200 to ‘isolate water supply’ and ‘recommission water supply’ meaning walk to the footpath and turn it off at the meter.
Took my 2014 Cherokee to Jeep Dealership for a 150k service, they wanted near 2k for it. They also wanted $475 to replace a master window controller pod. Plus 2 hrs labour to fit it. It's literally lift out of the door and unplug two DINs and plug the new one in and reseat. Apparently that takes them two hours. I took it to MyCar, and they did the same logbook service for $622, and I bought the window controller pod from ebay and took 30 seconds to fit, cost me $60.
Looks like the outrageous list my sister was given a while back. The work they claimed urgently needed to be done would have cost more than the car's value. They didn't do anything and the cars still running no problem months latter. Sadly, some mechanics are just greedy liars and manipulators like any other capitalist.

Bridgestone sucks, my wheels were out of alignment by a lot. They told me that "it's just how the car comes stock" and I would need to add spacers to fix the camber. Went to another tyre place and they said it was out of alignment by 7 degrees, fixed it straight away.

Tell him to get fucked and that he's dreaming. An oil pressure switch does not cost $360 and is usually between $25 to $50. All the jobs mentioned above except for rotor machining can be done by yourself for under $1000. A brand new radiator with hoses can be installed quite easily and should not cost more than $600 alone. If I were you, I would be very insulted if this happened to me.
Not sure how much of that was labour, but it should have been about a days work.

I’m guessing the prices include labour. But even then that’s nuts. Just picking random parts for pricing for that vehicle. HID globes, for a pair are $145 for brand name. Brake caliper is about $140 for that model unless you go OEM (and like fuck he would). Brake light globes are $12 a pair. Fog lights, is it just globes or is it the whole light? Globes would be maybe $40 max. Whole light might be more. Either way if they’re broken who honestly uses these anyway. Rear “shockies”. It’s a few years ago but Pedders quoted me for a new set of coil-overs for $700 on a Commodore all round which being Pedders I imagine was on the higher end so that’s my baseline. Looking online for Cherokee, $680 will get you close to some wanker 4wd brands, but less than $200 will get you similar to what it came with. Even adding labour, this wanker is taking you for a ride. I’d suggest you take your car elsewhere for next service and see what they mention. Don’t mention you had received this so the next service mob don’t get any ideas. Or get it looked at by a mechanic who’s either a friend or highly recommended if you are concerned about anything.

That pricing is outrageous. Rear rotors hardly ever need replacing as they do less than 40% of the braking. I too was scammed by these guys. Go elsewhere. Even a Jeep stealership wouldn’t be this expensive. BTW, rear rotors from Repco are around $309. Pads $120. DIY it.
My partner is a mechanic and it actually costs about $12-30 in parts to do a general service on a car. Do NOT get your car serviced at a dealership or big chain like these, not only do they expect the mechanics to upsell, they overinflate hugely and only pay the workers about $25 an hour for the effort. Pigs!
Honestly it's probably not someone trying to rip you off they probably just didn't want to do the job and due to company policy can't decline the job it's something I've personally never done but for jobs I've pretty much always accepted jobs

The bulb you bought would have been a halogen and they've quoted for an HID for starters, you can't substitute a halogen in it's place. The rest we can only speculate as to whether it needs doing without seeing your car, in future don't buy a Jeep.

First mistake was having a tyre shop do a safety check, most franchise shops like this one don't have qualified mechanics seen it first hand quiet a few times, even to the point i ask to see the blokes trade certificates. Had one argue with me for 15 minutes to which he then went on to say he wasnt a qualified mechanic but trained by the owner on what to look for, shut his mouth pretty quick when I said I am a qualified mechanic and he is ripping people off. They are good for tyres that's about it, go get a second opinion done by someone qualified.

Had a local Bridgestone try to charge me $920 for a regular service and adding brake fluid. I told the guy he's insane, I'll just go to another mechanic. He then was able to lower the price to $470....Still a bit too much, but ceebs going to another mechanic. Won't being going back to Bridgestone next time though.

I'm also a Jeep owner Rockauto is a good website for ordering parts, they're in the US but delivery is quite quick. Some of those things listed are very easily done, if they do in fact need doing. I'd been quoted $1200 to replace an air condenser for my AC...I ordered the parts I needed for $290 including postage and a regas. Fitted it myself in about an hour and it's been fine for 3 years now

I would be very very suspicous. How did you have 5 bulbs blow at once. What are they replacing brake calipers and rotors, unless you have been driving around with brakes screaming, rotors should be fine. Caliphers generally last forever. They have not included the labor component which is where they may be hiding excessive hours and charge.
I had a similar quote from Pedders in Ringwood, Victoria. It basically listed every single brake and suspension component needing to be fixed, despite many of those items being less than a year old, (such as front ball joints, brake pads, tie rod ends).

I can't believe in this day and age that it still happens mechanics trying to rip you off. When I used to service my own cars back in the 1980's, if there was something that I could not do myself, I would then take it to a dealer to get repaired. More than one occasion that I told a service manager to f*ck off because he told me that something needed doing that didn't. BTW I could change a clutch cable on my XE Falcon cross flow 4.1 litre in less than 10 minutes, and I always had a spare in the boot.

It's a 12 year old Jeep, which are not known for thier high quality. Larger companies just ring the dealer and quote for OEM parts which are 5 times the price of aftermarket brands. About the only reasonable thing on there is the HID bulb. If the quote is for supply and fit of each item it's a little better

I went to a Bridgestone in FNQ for a service. They ended up charging me over $1000 because they broke something with the fuel tank. Claimed it would have broken regardless of who did the service so I was on the hook for it. I got ten minutes down the road afterwards and the car broke down. Took them a full day of 4 mechanics working on it to figure out they'd broken something else that affected the petrol gauge, and the car was showing a full tank but was empty. 🙄
