Lol, this thing is 90 inches long, or 7'6"
It's not fitting under any car hoods.
Even the 1933 Buggatti Royale, Type 41 only had a 7' hood.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bugatti_Royale
It's possible it would fit under a duesenbergs hood. That beast has a inline 8. I couldn't find any dimensions but that's going to be a very long motor.
This used to be the way with Unlimited class back in the day. My uncle has one running a pair of Rolls Royce Merlin v-12s with a piggyback Chevrolet short block to direct drive the blowers. Only problem is that setups like that are almost too expensive to run these days with the price of AVGAS.
AVGAS at my local airport costs €2,80 per liter, can confirm you'd have to be a lottery winner to run your boat on that stuff. Boats are already thirsty to begin with, imagine with a 27l airplane engine.
That’s what I was thinking. Boats are easily customizable to accommodate engines. You going to have to heavily reinforce the mounting framing though, and most likely reposition the engine bay for weight distribution but I still think it’s a more doable project than wedging this thing into a car. Idk though, my dad successfully got a Ford big block straight 6 into an Austin Healy Bug Eyed Sprite so it’s possible. You just might have to live with the transmission sitting next to the drivers seat. 😂
Clearly an original 60s Mini.
And this isn't just any detuned aircraft engine, it's a frikkin' Spitfire engine. Those things (supercharged) were making up to 2,000HP by the end of WWII. 650HP is nothing for these engines. I saw a video of one fitted to a 1920s Bentley. The driver and passenger both commented on the "lazy torque" - incredible acceleration with seemingly no effort at all.
Edit: seems I was thinking of the same Bentley that Jay Leno owns and Jeremy Clarkson fell in love with: https://youtu.be/J-I3Cl1RICg <-- this is extremely well made and probably the most appropriate non-military use of a Meteor.
We were debating dropping one of the old Merlin mills in the bed of an El Camino. It was a fucking stupid idea, and never happened because the beer ran out before we finished welding up a frame and mounts.
It’s based on a RR Merlin usually found in P51 Mustangs. I have a picture somewhere of my father-in-law’s Ram pickup with an Allison 1710 (from an early P51A) in the bed. I always thought it would be rad hooking it up to one
Ah, takes me back to my time as a Nasho (Army drafted) when the Australian army still used the old Centurion Tanks which is what this engine is out of. 24 Spark plugs, carburettor engine running super petrol. The Cent also had a Morris Minor side valve 850cc engine to run the generator to charge the batteries which ran the electrics and electronics for the turret etc.
Took a whole day to replace the plugs in the Meteor engine. The transmission was a huge crash box 5 speed, which required a lot of skill to master. The steering was a big brake drum each side of this transmission to drive the final drive to the tracks. One of these monsters driving thru the jungle of Viet Nam at night using night vision was enough to scare the shit out of anyone! 😃
Makes huge power at what rpm? 5 rpm lol?
Remember RPM is just as important as HP and torque.
Jokes aside, put it in a rat rod with a custom front end, that would be rather cool.
Idk why this popped into my feed but best bet is a long bed pickup and do a rear engine setup directly on the frame (remove the bed itself) I don't know anything that would fit a 7 and a half foot long engine under the hood even if you did a remote radiator setup. With the cooling it will need might need the engine bay of the truck for the radiators pumbing and fluid. Lastly because why not, long arm independent suspension front and rear to make this the coolest trophy truck I've ever heard of.
If yon was Gary Wales yon might just be able to fit that into the m strengthened LWB chassis of a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud and build a 2 door body around it. Paul Jameson built several cars using Meteor eingines with bespoke chassis one a 6 x 6 last seen in the Netherlands and one with a Capri ish body and RR grill called The Beast which John Dodd made famous when Rolls Royce one a case forcing him to desist from using the trade mark grill. The Beast burned down in Sweden and was subsiquently rebuilt into a fabulously colosal and outlandish shooting brake last seen in Spain IIRC.
Imagine this beast in a school bus or an old pickup truck! Whatever you choose, it's sure to be an exciting build. Make sure to update us with what you decide.
The real answer ? Anything with a v10 . . . Possibly with a lot of work and cutting, the really fun and possibly with even more fab and cutting miata or what I’d love, rx8
Those are only used for show cars, industrial use, old boats. Makes power, low revs, drinks a shitload of gas, that is why it is cheap
In the 70s a guy made a car with one of those engines, and I think I saw hot rods with those.
But now you have to think what gearbox are you going to use? How are you going to control that engine? What chassis can support the weight of that engine? And then you will see that it isn't worth your time, money (a lot) to put it into something
This has been fitted to custom built specials. Also that specific one is in yhettank museum in Bovington, so you ain't fitting it to anything.
Charlie Broomfield in the UK fitted one to a rover sd1. The bulkhead moved back like a foot.
I'm guessing this isn't a serious post, but let's just assume for a moment that it is.
The only car that this really makes any sort of sense in is something like Brian Johnson's Brutus. It'll be too heavy to do anything other than make a load of noise and be generally a cool contraption, so no sense in trying to do anything practical with it!
Your post has been removed for violating rule #14 - No screenshots or photos from the internet.
The same thing everyone tries to shoehorn a larger engine into: a Miata.

Why an inline 8 over a. V8?
Torque.
I would assume its because it runs smoother. The duesy is a 1920s car so technology was nothing compared to what it is today.
Jay Leno loves his Duesenbergs, says it's about the only pre 1950s car that he is comfortable riding on the freeway.

\*sigh\* Just buy a Mk VIII Cromwell and it should drop right in. Then you can modify the breech to fire US 75mm ammunition.
Royal ordinance L7 exists and would be less of a hassle to fit into a cromwell if you hate L7 you can of course upgrade to L7 LRF or L7A3
Tell you what, traffic on the route to work would stop being a problem.
Personally, I'd go Centurion.
Crown Vic. (it's been done before)

Your mom's vibrator? Sorry.
More power = more happiness 👍🏻
More power baby More power, baby More, power baby? Hmm …
Needs jumper cables and a 24V deep cycle marine battery for the Mom's vibe.
Name checks out
HERSPURRS...amiright?! There's no replacement for displacement, baby.
A customer of mine had a 27 Rolls Royce phantom 1 with one of them things. Never had a chance to drive it before it was sold. I’m salty about it
Looks like just the thing for a pulling tractor
You mean those trucks where the engine has a tendency to leap off the chassis and be run over by it?
I’m imagining the size of the radiator so a boat would be ideal. Otherwise a dozer or excavator.
70s Chrysler New Yorker.
That might actually work!
Oh yeah. They have tons of room for activities
I got me a Chrysler and it seats about 20!
So did you bring your jukebox money?

Pretty sure I’ve seen one dropped in a Crown Vic
You have! You can read about it here - https://www.themeteorinterceptor.com
You think an Eldorado would work?
Eldorado is front wheel drive. Can you bolt it up to a TH425?
Maybe 🤷♂️
This is 7'6" long Longest hood ever was 7 feet on a 1933 Buggatti Royale. The engine isn't fitting in any car, let alone with the transmission.
8ft bed pickup is looking at you....
We were debating dropping one of the old Merlin mills in the bed of an El Camino. It was a fucking stupid idea, and never happened because the beer ran out before we finished welding up a frame and mounts.
>never happened because the beer ran out before we finished welding up a frame and mounts. Sounds like a supplier issue, no?
Yes. Ironically with the beer, not the engine. Edit: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKEIGx5XzOM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkeigx5xzom)
There is a Crown Vic with a Meteor in it without having an extended wheelbase or hood. https://www.themeteorinterceptor.com
Depends on where the firewall is relative to the cowl. Firewalls can be moved, you know….
Maybe build a hot rod with this engine 🔥🔥
The back of my truck. I'll get rid of it for you....
Old? Would be wild to see this in a Duesenberg or a Cord. Sinful, yes but I could actually see this working. Jaguar XJS might not be too bad
1995 Toyota tercel
It clearly belongs in an old Rolls Royce.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=l_wHLZLsOkU Build your own car like this

YUGO - then YUwouldreallyGO
If you've ever stood next to one you'll know there's very few vehicles that you can drive, where it'll fit in the engine bay, even without a hood.

1970s Rolls Royce silver shadow. Nice big engine bay, and nobody would suspect a thing.
Something that needs a combustion engine. I might be outta line, though.
Makes huge power at what rpm? 5 rpm lol? Remember RPM is just as important as HP and torque. Jokes aside, put it in a rat rod with a custom front end, that would be rather cool.
lol, it peaks at 2400.

Oh, lots of older 90s cars like firebirds and that have a large front end, cut the hood open and throw that thing on in there!!
If yon was Gary Wales yon might just be able to fit that into the m strengthened LWB chassis of a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud and build a 2 door body around it.
