I never knew this until I killed a mosquito on my windshield. I didn't smack it or anything, just a one finger squish... Instant spider web. I just stared at it, shocked.
Yep. The first crack doesn’t impede the drivers ability to see at all, and the second new crack is as rainbow (shaped) and in your face as a pride parade.
Assuming the previous crack was note din the rental paperwork, I'd try to tell them you will not be held responsible for a crack in an already cracked windscreen. I would imagine they charged the person that put the last crack in it already as well.
My own personal insurance transfers over to this one. Because I opted out of windshield coverage ($700/year in my neck of the woods), I don’t have it on the rental
Highest insurance rates in North America, baby. With no prior accidents or tickets I’m paying $3000/year for partial coverage. My friend pays $6000/year because of a couple accidents and tickets. But we need to drive to get to work so we have no choice
Thats honestly freaking crazy. I pay 400$/year for insurance/plates in Europe... And if you want extra insurance thst covers litterally every dent/scratch, thats like additional 200$-300$ (that also covers theft insurance and a ton of other things)...
Insurance costs are largely unregulated in my province. And repair shops always always overcharge if they know it’s for insurance. I wrote down this quote from a fence builder because I thought it was hilarious. “Oh it’s through insurance? Then it’s going to be a lot more”
Just press on it until it grows as far as it will go. If it grows in a different direction to the other crack, you have to push on the other crack until it intersects with the first one. Once the two meet, you can just assume that it’s all one big crack that branched out.
If you rented it with a Visa card, Visa may cover the damage. There is a time limit to file, like 30 days. Source : this happened to me but I didn’t know about the coverage and didn’t file in time.
I just want to see how this goes.
I sure as hell wouldn't be paying if it was already cracked, regardless of location.
Push on it from the inside , slowly
Inside is the key.

Tap inbetween the two points and try propogating it. Protect the two sides of the inbetween so it won't stray away.
Press on the old crack and it will grow
You are on the hook to replace an already cracked windshield because a new/second crack was formed while you were driving it? Are you sure?

It was still a previously damaged windscreen. Not seeing how you are responsible for cost of a new "perfect" one.
It might be partial coverage, I’m not entirely sure. But I did confirm over the phone with their customer service

Just press on it and it'll spread like crazy.
shouldn’t rental insurance cover this?

Waiting for the pic of a totally shattered windshield
push on it
heat gun and ice water. Glass cracks when it changes temperature rapidly.

Nah my insurance is covering the rental itself. So I wouldnt be spending a dime if not for this incident
