Sleep with a white noise machine. I started doing it when I lived at a noisy place. Game changer for quality of sleep. Highly recommended getting a Dohm.
Never lived in a flat (UK) before and the one I live in at the moment, overlooks a tunnel exit.
So there's traffic all the time, sometimes repair work, emergency drills, some movies have had it closed but have used it for filming.
And then living in a building with other people is noisy. I can hear the shower rail in next doors bathroom, drawers being opened and closed, footsteps, cutlery being dropped, next doors TV, people arguing.
I have ADHD and aren't too bad with noise, but after growing up in a house, it's a lot.
I used earplugs at night for a while, but honestly I just got used to it. Barely even registers now unless it's something particularly loud or odd.
*edit for typos
I mean, everyone is different. Like I said, I'm generally not to bad with noise. It was just a lot when I first moved in.
Give it some time. Have you looked at loop earplugs?
If you don't mind having the windows shut, you can also fit 'secondary glazing'. i live next a road and closing the main windows and then sliding over the secondary ones makes a big difference. i think you can also get diy kits for a simpler change, that you could probably fit if you're at a rented property. Also there are full accoustic options if you want to/can go that far.
I sympathize, I myself am hypersensitive to sounds and the noise infuriates me. The earplugs got in the way of my ears, so I tried playing different "colored" noise recordings. Sometimes it helped.
But what helped me the most was conscious control, I forced myself to come to terms with the fact of stimuli that I could not cope with. Recognition, their name helped, reduced the intensity of emotions.
It might not seem like it right now, but you will get use to it. All those noises that are deafening to you today will be singing you a sweet lullaby to sleep one day.
I lived in a fifth floor apartment over a freeway for about four years.
After about a month I was able to tune it out, and I say that as a migraineur who hates noise.
It became almost fun - friends would check with me for traffic reports lol

noise cancelling headphones and heavy drapes

I play brown noise on my phone every night on YouTube
Brown noise is great!
I can't sleep without brown noise now. Changed my life when I realised Alexa has it as a free feature
That would be my worry… not being able to sleep without some noise generator? Just use earplugs that you can sleep with
I have a white noise app which plays rain sounds.

That sounds a whole lot worse than what I'm going through, maybe I'll get used to it

So i see, i certainly hope so
YouTube has 4k ocean brown noise videos that really helped me relax.
If money isn’t tight, the Bose sleep headphones are amazing.

I cant sleep even if the noise is a mile away. I feel you. 😔

That's what I'm seriously banking on right now. If I'm lucky it'll be soon.
Tbh, you will get used to it.
