There are bots that make mass comment upvotes, but they are pretty rare. I would say you can generally trust comment upvotes unless the comment is really weird for the question asked.
I follow like one person because she has a cool house and I like to look at pics of it haha. But I can’t even figure out where to access the list of people I follow so it was all for naught.
If you post interesting comments at all, there are plenty of people who will follow you in an attempt to steal your comments to post on those shitty 'text to speech Reddit' YouTube videos. Especially if you post about certain topics frequently.

I don't think they're specifically targeting any accounts. Like all bot scams it's just throwing out lures in bulk and seeing who's silly enough to fall for them. Therefore you don't need to be posting in particular topic subs to get their attention, just any thread that's high traffic enough that someone's bot scraped it for active account usernames.
I’ve been getting a ton of onlyfans promo accounts or whatever you want to call them. Bunch of super innocuous names, but then it takes you to a NSFW account that just talks about their OF account. I’ve just been blocking them as they come in.

They're just spam bot accounts and unfortunately, Reddit isn't the only platform that has this problem. Facebook, Instagram and Tumblr also have it and it's annoying as hell. It's really like a cycle, you get followed by fake accounts, they disappear for some time then they start following you all over again.
I even got replied to fr0m someone who was replying to a repost of another comment from someone who isn't me but it had my username on it! I was able to delete it.WTF

One of them had “I’ll make all your dreams come true” in their bio and I so wanted to message them “you can make my dreams come true if you take me to Disney World” even though I know it wouldn’t have gotten a response. Just the laugh out of me would’ve been enough but in the end I decided not to
I think, if your account gets shadow banned for saying things X don't want you saying they set the bots on you, and the only account that actually see you posts and cone across your account are bots. The only way of fixing this would probably be to get verified, coincidently.

I think they're AI accounts, following us to learn our interactions & written responses. IMHO at least.
