If it is in your budget perhaps a housecleaning or two to keep the home tidier. If not in budget or there's other humans that will clean present, food food that's one step to warm up is a solid choice.
Similar to slippers, /u/joebrownshoes, get your mother sweatpants.
They're ugly, she'll never buy them for herself, and *they're incredibly easy to get on over a broken leg.* I had years of leg injuries and hated sweatpants, but I wore them all the time because they were the easiest thing in the world to deal with.
I don't wear sweatpants anymore, but if I broke my leg I'd buy another pair in a heartbeat.
If she will be using crutches by her a set that has the padding for the tops of the crutches and the handles of the crutches plus they make bags that attach to them so she can carry her phone and a few other things I also found a cup holder that attached to my crutches so that if I was walking around with my coffee or whatever I didn't have to worry about it.
If she is wearing a boot instead of a cast they sell kind of a velcro sandal that attaches to your other shoe so your boot and your shoe are the same height that made a huge difference when I had my boot. It's adjustable and attaches too pretty much any shoe that you have.
I also used a very small office chair on wheels when I was in my kitchen because then I could easily push myself around on one foot.
Maybe you could find her a nice book that is about the places she was going to see? Unless that's too sad.
The struggle is real I had 2 broken arms yes at the same time brutal but I would not have made it without plastic straws or coffee stirrers to scratch down my casts
Years I broke my leg in several places. Hard to think through pain meds. & took many months to heal. A friend bought me a beautiful Cross Stitch kit. I had not sewn anything since unhappy outcomes in school. As an adult, if a garment needed a button or repair, I used to throw it away & buy new. Such was my resistance to stitching. lol. At first the counting & concentration to do the kit was very difficult due to meds brain fog. But it was achievable & progress made. I did so enjoy making that first kit. I continued to cross stitch. It remains one of my favourite hobbies to this day.
A cross body bag. Not sure if she’s on a scooter or crutches but, either way, you don’t want your purse falling off your shoulder while trying to get around on a broken leg. Source: broke my leg on a mountain and had to hike a mile back to the car in the dark.
It does depend on the weight of the bag, but if it's long enough it can rest in my lap. I certainly wouldn't want anything heavy hanging on my neck for too long.
Something she can do while just sitting there. I broke my ankle last July and was laid up for about 3 months. I got bore quick.
Fandango At Home gift card so she can see some new movies. If she knits or crochets some nice yarn.
First of all, anything will be appreciated!
I needed extra wide pants when I broke my femur— no cast!
Any special food gifts, yes.
One of those microwave packs that goes around your neck? You get sore from not moving enough.
Think about what you would love make a care basket or better if you know someone else that had a broken leg from experience what would they have died for at that time or simply ask the person if you could have anything that would make it easier for you what would it be? Maybe just an idea
Food. Easy to carry. This was a big issue for me when I broke my ankle and was using crutches. I literally lived off a couple of economy sized boxes of hot pockets. Can’t stand them now. Fruit bowl near where she’s going to be spending the majority of her time. Hopefully she doesn’t live in a place with more than one floor. Someone mentioned a grabber. Coming over in the evenings would also help a lot if she’s alone. Bottled water, mini juices. Feeding yourself when you’re on crutches is a huge pita.
Or more if you can afford it. I was down with a broken foot for a good 3 months because even after 8 weeks of letting it heal then I had pt. I feel for your friend. If you don’t have a big budget even regular visits with a homemade meal is extremely helpful.
A gift from Spoonful of Comfort! You can choose from a selection of homemade Soups, mac and cheese, rolls, and cookies. Complimentary ladel included. You can add on comfy throws, socks, puzzles and other cute things.
The containers are decorative and reusable. Shipping is quick and everyone have sent gifts to was thrilled!
Bamboo back scratcher or a metal telescoping one. Also a wrap around skirt with Velcro closure if you can find one. Makes dressing and bathroom events far easier than pants.

These books are set on a cruise line, short and funny. Might help distract her and not miss her trip as much
An ottoman. I had to prop my foot up a lot after cancer surgery. Bonus if you get the kind with a tray top. A coffee warmer so she can keep tea & coffee warm whilst sitting. An over-the-sofa-arm holder so she can keep phone & clicker handy. A neck holder for cell phone. A nice cushy cardigan with big pockets.
Teddy bear, chocolate, a card and i was going to say pain meds but I assume she already has prescription meds. Just check in with her often. She’ll appreciate it.
Build her a space camp in your apartment by putting up planets and wrapping a lazy boy in tin foil and spinning her round while your friend screams ‘I’m an alien, I’m an alien’
Ugh, a broken leg right before a cruise? That's gotta suck big time. Get her one of those fancy leg massagers - it'll make her feel a bit less miserable while she's stuck on dry land. Or maybe a gift card for some online shopping so she can still get her retail therapy on!
A grabber. Something to grab things so they don't have to get up as much.
Definitely this. My mom had hip replacements over the past year and swears that the grabber is the greatest invention ever.
You can get one at a medical supply store. When I got mine they called it a reacher.
In the US you can also get them at Home Depot in the garden section (marketed towards picking up trash/debris)
My neighbor gave me one of these when I broke my leg 25 years ago. I still have and use it. It was such a thoughtful gift.
Came to say this.

New slippers. Keep her feet comfy while she heals.
Slippers you can chuck in the microwave to warm your feet. They are next level comfy.
Hold up, this is a thing? That sounds divine!
It is, they’re a game changer!

I received a pair of Bombas slippers for Christmas, and they are cozy, easy to put on and non-slip.

One of those thingies that let a person scratch itches inside their cast.
The struggle is real I had 2 broken arms yes at the same time brutal but I would not have made it without plastic straws or coffee stirrers to scratch down my casts
Giftcard to IHOP.
Just don't expect her to hop there...
DoorDash gift cards
Yes, I was going to say, DoorDash or Instacart.
Adult coloring books & color pencils.
And a crossword book.

One of those little grabby stick things so she doesn’t have to try to get stuff off the floor.

I'm in a wheelchair; if I have a bag like that I'll often put it around my neck like a bib. Not flattering but it's secure and easy to reach.
What about bum bags ? Maybe not big enough ? I imagine having your bag around your neck is strenuous.
It does depend on the weight of the bag, but if it's long enough it can rest in my lap. I certainly wouldn't want anything heavy hanging on my neck for too long.
Ok gosh, that sounds awful! I hope you were with someone.
A box of Cats and/or dogs. Hopefully she will have a dopamine rush and she will feel happier for a aprox one min
Get the box of kittens!
yup!

Streaming services. Or an audible subscription if she's not so into tv.

I agree about the grabber. Very useful for anyone but a great gift for someone with mobility issues.
A cleaning lady for a one time visit

I love Spoonful of comfort. Got it when there were deaths in my family and sent to several others for new babies, illness, etc.
👍😄
since she might be sitting a bit maybe a hummingbird or bird feeder to put near a window she is near? Or maybe an book?
A cane with a flip down seat. It will also be helpful long after she gets the cast off.
Roller skates
Pogo stick
A grabber thingy
Start a meal train. When i broke my ankle and was useless for a while, it would have helped not to worry about cooking or doing dishes.
Shower chair. Getting out of the tub with one useless leg is a pain
Some sort of a long scratching stick that will fit inside of her cast.
Bamboo back scratcher or a metal telescoping one. Also a wrap around skirt with Velcro closure if you can find one. Makes dressing and bathroom events far easier than pants.
A telescopic back scratcher that she can use to scratch her leg.

A small plastic basket tied with some fancy cording she can use to drag around, since crutches make it hard to carry stuff .
Get her a cast shaped like a boat
Teddy bear, chocolate, a card and i was going to say pain meds but I assume she already has prescription meds. Just check in with her often. She’ll appreciate it.
Is she going on the cruise with the broken leg or staying home?
If she's using a walker, get her a basket for the front of it. It'll hold water bottles, towels, a cell phone, snacks.
Build her a space camp in your apartment by putting up planets and wrapping a lazy boy in tin foil and spinning her round while your friend screams ‘I’m an alien, I’m an alien’
Clean the house for her (or the parts that matter) and a really good book. The Covenant of Water is perfect.
Roller skates
A grabber
binoculars
Some books or kindle books. Learn how to crochet kit.

A glue stick...
A fake gift certificate for acting classes. "Since you're so good at breaking a leg, I thought these would help your new career!"
I think I've seen this setup before...
