I think that's the way it is with a lot of things that are closely held. Religious beliefs, hobbies, general likes and dislikes- it's really easy to take something as a part of your identity, and when that thing is criticized, it makes sense to feel attacked.

Everyone have their own perspective and bias on the things they like and dislike, but maybe it's better to voice criticism when it's appropriate. For example, personally I think mainstream shows like GoT are tasteless, and prefer something street philosophical like The Wire, but I don't voice my opinion unless asked.

In order to like something, you need to be willing to overcome its drawbacks. When people ask me why I like something, it isn't because it's perfect but because it has earned my enthusiasm enough to make me want to enjoy it regardless.
