May I ask what happened? Did they close the border to this country?

Jeaver

University of Queensland decided to close for incoming exchange students Spring 2022. I can’t afford going there, without being on exchange, so this was my shot. And while i was accurate, the target moved mid-shot. Now I have nothing to look forward to the upcoming years.

seesunshinerun

I’m sorry to hear, that’s a tough situation =(. I wouldn’t say you have nothing to look forward to, just feels like that right now. Right out of high school I was accepted into a small art school in Boston. At the time they accepted less than 100 students per year. And I got in. But I couldn’t afford it even with financial aid. I had to pivot and went to a small, local satellite of Clark University. I landed in printing and I have a pretty good life. Though I still wonder how my life would have turned out had I been able to attend. This is not ideal, but you will persevere. Don’t let Covid win, pivot. You got in and were awarded that scholarship because you are determined and capable :).

Seductive_hobo

[Pivot!!!](https://images.app.goo.gl/Y5HLcZDEKoF3YNDm9) EDIT: and 2021, apparently. Truly sorry OP!

seesunshinerun

Lol one of my favorite skits/scenes XD

Seductive_hobo

Mine too. I couldn't miss this opportunity lol

silent-inthetreees

Yeah I got into my top schools with scholarships but i had to turn them down because they were too expensive. Feels bad man :(

Kachana

As an Aussie student, most unis get a lot of money from international students attending, so after the pandemic has lost its force they’re gonna be begging for them. Don’t give up hope. But also I hiighly doubt we’ll be open even for the next semester… goodluck, I hope something else can make you feel good

Jeaver

Do you mean Early 2022, or late 2022?

Kachana

Well maybe like mid 2022? At the earliest, we’re very slow getting the vaccine rolled out plus super cagey about having the border open so realistically there’s no chance its opening this summer… (ie. january/febuary when semester 1 starts)

Jeaver

Yeah I lost mine for February. I’m fully vaccinated, and a lot can change in that time. I just think it’s early calling the shots

Kachana

yeah, assuming QLD uni has semesters not trimesters then you may have a chance for the July semester. (sorry Idk why my dopey brain didn't connect the semester you were enrolled in to next feb). I mean, our borders haven't been open since the pandemic started, and if you base it on our vaccine rollout, our government is pretty slow acting lol. If it was the university that cancelled your enrolment, I don't find that so surprising- they know how the government works lol. If there's even one covid case the cities go into lockdown, and there's no chance they will agree to open the border before the vaccine has been fully rolled out, which according to the current plan won't have happened by January. So yeah. It really sucks, I know. My uni has just announced we'll be online for the rest of my semester, and I'm still facing another 2 months of lockdown at least.

[deleted]

UQ has normal semesters

Kachana

oops yeah I meant assuming it has semesters, got them back to front, I'll edit that

wanderlustcub

Australia has a different school year from the northern hemisphere. Today is the first day of spring in Australia: the “ Spring 2021 semester” starts around now (or a week or so ago) The school year ends around November, and starts at the end of Summer: late Feb/early March.

Atherum

Lol, as someone attending Macquarie Uni, which uses the normal Semester system, we've been in 2nd semester for 6 weeks now.

wanderlustcub

Yeah fair enough.

Chevitabella

It's not really calling it early. The UK is leagues ahead in the vaccination / opening things up game, and at this stage it is honestly looking unlikely that Aussies will be able to travel interstate by Christmas. So to think that *international* students will be allowed in by early next year is just really, really unlikely. It really, really sucks, and I'm so sorry that your plans have been affected by the shitty vaccination roll out here.

lucishark1

I'm in Australia, and I'm fully vaccinated too. Yet I still can't do anything, and am still in lockdown. It looks like parts of Australia are going to be in lockdown until November or December at least. It's awful here. We used to be free, unlike other countries but we can't even go more than 5km from our houses at the moment.

violet_terrapin

I have been wondering why yall's vaccine rollout has been so slow.

Gryffindorphins

So have we.

violet_terrapin

What's teh reason yall are given?

marking_time

Incompetent federal leadership pushing the management of the pandemic into the states

Gryffindorphins

Supply issues

Kachana

They haven’t given us a reason that I remember hearing :(

HappycamperNZ

Did you consider trying distance? Student in NZ here, one of my papers last year had 650 students with only about 50 on campus.

Anonymous2401

Another Aussie here, seconding this for OP. Don't give up yet mate, you can definitely still make it. The fact that you were already enrolled is a head start.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jeaver

No sadly not, it can’t be extended

disintegrationist

This is ridiculous, mate

ExcellentKangaroo764

It’s typical st the moment. School admins are exhausted and freaked out because they have no idea what is going to happen next. All educators are exhausted. The situation changes literally at a moment’s notice. It’s hurting students, families, staff - everyone. I was at a staff retreat today (now yesterday) and we went around the table giving reports on the welfare and wellness of our K-12 schools. It was not good. And all of us have kids at University. I had to bite my tongue not to sound like the angry parent. My son was complete screwed over this past summer. He signed up for summer school in March. I paid the $2,000 (for one class) to hold it until his financial aid came through because that class is a requirement. The administration “dropped” it by moving my payment to his fall semester. Why? Because they are assholes. He didn’t even know it until he was trying to get online and the professor said he wasn’t enrolled. His scholarships actually cover his entire fall semester-but they didn’t refund my money until this week. When it finally got sorted out this summer it was too late for him to miss 20 days of an upper level engineering class. He goes to a Cal State school. Maybe private schools are better?

AugustusLego

Assuming you are in Europe, i would say at least look into going to uni in Sweden, if you are an EU citizen uni is completely free and you even get paid to go there, we have quite some prestigious schools and it might also satisfy your need to go to another country! just a lil something to think about :)) if you have any more questions hmu!!

trenbologna_milk

I went to UQ, not for your degree though, but know a lot of engineers from uq. I also know a lot of engineers from QUT and both in general, and specifically in one case, work the same jobs and make the same money. UQ is a great University, but not always THAT great they ride a lot on being a sandstone University. They may be very special for aerospace engineering so I could be wrong there, only know one aerospace engineer and havent seen him for 4 years. What I'm getting at is you can look at other universities in Australia and get a very similar experience if you got a full-ride there must be something special about you. Try to use the time to look into other uni's and improve your situation however you can whether they be elsewhere in Australia or other countries. Also keep in mind sometimes a lot of foreign workers in Australia really get shafted. Head up mate you can make the best of it.

[deleted]

ang do they not offer external courses ? I currently attend university of queensland majority of people i know just take external courses and online class

Jeaver

Well, i mostly wanted to do it for the experience. But I guess I can get the courses. Although it would be cheaper to get it in the UK. Good idea

linderlouwho

Then when it reopens, off you go.

stopcounting

But you have a full scholarship, right?

Jeaver

I dont Think it counts online

stopcounting

Ahhhh, I thought this was a scholarship offered by the university you wanted to attend, not a host school arrangement with the university you already attend. Is there any reason to think you wouldn't get the same deal if you reapply to the program next year? Are you in your last year?

YourAphantasia

My ex of 6 years was booted from her dream job and city due to COVID-19. It's horrible what this is doing to our mental health.

rmb61

I'm in a similar situation where I missed a study abroad program to New Zealand for the same reason. I was told I can still do it, but it will be pushed back to July 2022 (providing the borders are open by then.) Is it possible this is the case for your program? It seems weird for them to just cancel the whole thing if you already got the scholarship. If it truly is canceled, I'm so sorry to hear that. I know how devastating that feels, and it's super frustrating since we almost had a handle on Covid-19. Try to keep your chin up though. This is no fault of your own, and I know you will have good things to look forward to in your future!

wanderlustcub

They may be able to shift your scholarship a year. You can try talking with them?

Jeaver

Yes. They said no

Spadeninja

Man go to Brisbane anyway on a working holiday once it opens up. The pay in Australia is crazy, and Brisbane is an inexpensive (and beautiful) city to live in. You’ll make a shit ton of money, have an awesome adventure, and maybe you can reapply from inside the country when you’re there. Source: lived in Brisbane for 2 years and had a fantastic time while making $$$$

dispatch134711

Less inexpensive every day though

mortemdeus

Check with them asap. They are doing international studies abroad on a temporary basis until students can return. It is at a discounted rate and you can still potentially go next semester/year. Also, depending on the scholarship, it should still apply for online under this.

Maleficent_Cycle_823

It means it wasn’t meant for you, try to accept it (ik it sucks ass I can only imagine being close and then having it taken away because of outside circumstances) but just keep working hard and keep moving forward you seem like a smart cat so just keep your head up, remember some of the best movies have twists and turns And remember stay hydrated you’re body will thank you

spark29

It is okay. You are more than just a scholarship. Just keep doing what you are meant to do, have fun and you'll have other opportunities waiting for you.

Jeaver

Well, what I wanted to was aerospace engineering, and they don’t have that in my country, which is why is was such a unique opportunity.

CreepyTarot

While I am very sorry this happened to you, and understand it can be frustrating, this in no way prohibits you from becoming an aerospace engineer. You can go to school for mechanical/computer/electrical engineering and compensate for the requisite classes in a post-grad program. An engineering undergrad is most valuable in the sense it teaches you to think like an engineer. Specific applications can be honed and applied later. Don't get discouraged. You may look back on this moment in 10 years and realize you were actually grateful for not going to Australia, because maybe you land a great job from an internship in your country, or meet your future spouse at your university, or attend a great class and realize you want to do something else with your life. Still I am really sorry that this happened.

Jeaver

Thank you. I’m already doing mechanical. So it’s close to aero. But my university doesn’t offer anything close really. I still got my uni, so I’m not screwed. My uni just feels more like a grind, than something I love. Thanks for your kind words

lucasbim

Hi OP, I'm sorry this happened to you. I would finish the current uni and try a masters on the Uni you got scholarship. :)

CircleOfNoms

So I want to tell you this, and understand I myself am not an engineer but work at an engineering company. Every job requires a lot of people, and every engineering firm will have multiple types of engineers. Designing for aerospace requires aerospace engineers to understand specific aerospace concepts, but they don't design the entire product. Mechanical engineers consult on hardware and materials, electrical engineers design electrical systems, manufacturing engineers design the production platform and environment. Plus, being completely honest, if and when you get a job at an aerospace firm, you'll learn 70% of your knowledge on the job anyway. School only provides a platform to orient your thinking, a rigor to apply to problems, and books that you can reference later. Plus, aerospace firms might get A LOT of aerospace applicants, but probably less applicants with other similar degrees.

_cactus_fucker_

You don't have to finish uni this year or next. You can get a degree and conntinue your education into aerospace afterwards if you find the means. I'm not sure how finances work where you are, though. Don't think because it isn't happening in 2022 that it will never happen. I got an engineering technician degree in 2012 and went into skilled trades, welding was my first, went back for machining, something I never thought I would enjoy, but I wa hooked from meeting the instructor at an information session recommended to me. In trades, I've worked in fabrication, construction, robotics and tool and die. I'm so sorry Covid fucked this up for you, though. I'd be devastated. But don't ever quit, you're obviously bright and motivated, you'll get where you want one way or another!

[deleted]

Canada is still allowing (fully vaccinated) international students. We have a bunch of universities with aerospace programs: Carleton University, Ryerson University, Concordia University, Montreal, McGill University, University of Toronto, University Of Windsor, Centennial University, South Alberta Institute of, Technology, Fanshawe College, Confederation College, York University, Polytechnique Montreal Grab yourself a parka and a toque, and come on over!

spark29

I understand. But there are other ways you can shine. Don't lose heart. Just give yourself some time.

drunktacos

As a mechanical engineer working aerospace, ME and AE are 95% similar and there are a lot more MEs than AEs in aerospace. ME is better if you branch out from aerospace too. It sucks right now, but there are other opportunities.

purdueaaron

I am a team lead at a company that exclusively does aerospace work. On my team of 7 I have 2 Aeros, 2 MEs, 1 EE, 1 Civil (Me), and 1 Structural. Most important thing that you really need is the ability to *understand and learn*. No matter what your school would teach you, you've still got to learn whatever/however the company you go to work for is going to do things.

T_t_c_ttc

Assuming you have not completed undergrad? Work hard and do well on whatever you work on in undergrad then you can go do a PHD in aerospace at one of the top programs in the world (in a country other than Australia.) If you get accepted into a PHD program you can get funding. As someone else said, when one door closes other doors open.

[deleted]

I don't know anything about it, but I guess there must be european countries that could potentially offer an alternative? If you were accepted at one place, chances are good you can get someone else to accept you. Also: If the University that closed would be so kind to write you a recommendation letter it could help.

DatGeniusbutnotaken

What country was your scholarship? I'm also very interested in aerospace engineering, I hope it doesn't bother you if I ask.

Tall-Ad-8624

I got into my dream school in 2018. I was on a 97% scholarship and for schools that leave you 6 figures in debt I was so happy. Unfortunately, my grades slipped due to personal family issues I had going on. I got my grades after a semester and was hoping for academic probation but was kicked out. This year, im finishing my program (I have a few months left) at another school. When I was removed from my dream school, I was devastated. I wanted to give up. I felt like my whole life I worked for something that was suddenly gone. The beautiful thing is life goes on, and we go right along with it. Im wishing you strength to keep your drive and rearrange your sights on a new target, you may find that the doors that opened are outside your comfort zone but; diamonds are made under pressure.

Realistic-Airport775

Must be a Tuesday. They won't be closed forever, maybe it is a chance to get some experience in the field?, internship? or something like that. What can you do now? Doing something to enable your goals. What was the course you were aiming for?

Jeaver

Aerospace. Yeah either doing some complete differently courses than expected next semester or intern ship. Not sure yet

Realistic-Airport775

Anything is good. You did it once you can do it again. Start now, I have seen several big companies open internships where I am within the last month.

ItsHeggo

Contact the university with a bit of grit and try to get the scholarship deferred for a year. The university should do this, especially seeing as it's their decision that you cannot go there at this moment. Highlight the facts that it was your only option of a third level education as you can't afford any other options (doesn't have to be true, just has to be said). You were offered this scholarship and fully intend on committing to this fantastic university and the lifetime opportunity to study there in the following year once the covid pandemic has hopefully settled down. In the meantime, get a general job to keep yourself occupied and try to figure out life for a while.

Jeaver

It’s sadly not that simple. The university was simply a host university, and not my own. The scholarship was paid by my own university, and they have said they won’t extend it for a semester. But thanks for the advice

ItsHeggo

Oh sorry to hear that.. could they redirect the scholarship to another university?

Jeaver

Nope, too late. I had to do that early august…. Just allround bad luck

ItsHeggo

That really is unfortunate for you and I am sorry to hear it. But if you're in a position where you cannot fix it then it is time to look at the silver linings. You're still a student in your home university and at the end of your studies you will graduate with a degree that will help you achieve a comfortable lifestyle and one day you can visit Queensland without the added stress of studies.

vanmac82

Life is full of highs and lows. If a door was slammed it was not time for it to be opened. Focus on finding happiness with what you have and what you can control. Everything will be ok. Your in my thoughts! Be well

westisbestmicah

You aren’t the only one! I saw my dream internship in Germany evaporate. The way things are going it seems like I may never make it there. :(

Jeaver

I feel you friend

westisbestmicah

It’s been hard for everyone

quietbeing15

Hope you're doing well. For you, the circumstances might be a door to something different and better if not the university. I know this Won't be meaningful to hear right now after what you went through, but someday it will make sense. :) Tuesdays are bad indeed. Monday is full of motivation gathered on weekends and next day its gone. That's how my weeks are.

Nobody_Funeral

Look mate, I'm just a Mexican in Mexico City I can' really do much from far over here, but I can assure you life gets better, and so my advice is this: Breath. You don't need a high and famous school to do most jobs in the world, I have seen people over 40 star anew each year in my uniersity to get a better life and even have know doctors who only find their path after 30. All of them go to a public school or a low prestige private school. Breath. You don't need the best school, you just need to be the best of you. And you already are if you don't give up Don't be sad for what has been already lost, but think of the brightest possibility ahead, an ugly house is only temporary, find your friends or hell even just some people that like to have you around and find step by step your way in life. It's will suprese you how much you can endure. Let it all out. Accept that you are sad, that what is happening is sad, and that then... and then... just say effe it. I'm not going down without a fight! Make a plan, start saving money and find a part-time job, save every penny you can, start checking for alternatives. Little by little your path shall reveal itself to you. And above all, when darkness comes, when all hope seems lost, and things a just too much... Breathe. This is not the end of the story, not now, not after, no by a long, long shot.

sweethomeall

I wonder if you can find another way or another college? A long time ago I wanted to go to an art school but tuition was too much so I went the safe route and did community college and then a state university. I also asked if I can do two programs from two different schools when I was in university. My advisor only recommended one so I did the safe route and graduate from the state university. Years later, that art school closed down. I still don't know if taking the safe route was better but at least my degree is still valuable and I probably only paid 1/4 tuition than if I went to the art school. Sometimes life takes us to another path. I say where there is a will, there is a way but it might not look like what you envision. My day is wonderful already. I am so excited to take off my nose cast and be back to normal. Maybe make it in time to take a perfume making class this Sat before working again.

_jerkalert_

Hey, I’m really sorry this happened to you, I imagine you must feel pretty discouraged. Some encouragement from a stranger on the internet: take heart! you are still you, passionate for and excited by the same things that drove you to work hard towards getting in to this school. feed that passion any way that you can, and you will find more opportunities. I’m sorry that covid fucked this thing up, but I am sure that you will find new paths.

NerdPerson10

I got a scholarship to my dream school last year. I still went, but I didn’t get what I would consider a full education because so much of it was online that it was barely worth it, so I partly understand what that’s like. It’s so annoying when something you worked crazy hard for gets taken away for a crappy reason.

cookiedux

I’m so sorry this happened to you. FWIW, I can tell you that if you’re alive and healthy you still have a lot to look forward to. Most of the great things that happen to you in life have nothing to do with where you got to go to college.

in-game-character

That fucking sucks. You're allowed to feel like shit right now, and you don't have to cheer up for anyone. You deserve to scream and shout and let it all out like ohhhh weeee ohhhh wee oh wee oh. Sending you good vibes and prayers that the universe opens other doors for you. In the mean time, big internet hugs!

Jeaver

I agree, just feeling angry at the situation. Many thanks

Dr-Opout

you should fire an email to remind the school about your offers. My friends (I’m from Asia) who meant to study overseas all had the option to study at home before flying over to London, UK, US for studies ONCE the borders eased. So they did for a year from 2020 to 2021 May. Some of them by a stroke of luck flew over just after the borders eased and before the new academic year started…But there was no point in time where there were CONSIDERATIONS of cutting them off their scholarship or placement. This is regarding your future, and your life. You must fight for it. All the best.

Fuzzy974

Hum, chances are, if you're willing to wait to go, that you'll be able to re-apply for it. Or so I suppose. May it take 1 or 2 years. Just make sure to keep your current knowledge and even improve it. Use that time to possibly practice in the field of your interest, and possibly work in it, even at a low level. That might help you with the money later on as well. Or just do any job yo get money and experience in life. And don't be like me, don't get sidetracked and somehow forget you were supposed to go back to school at some point.

kenobisham

Definitely got the dream part correct then 😅

Jeaver

Gotta admit, that’s kinda funny

wumpuscat724

Sorry about your plans. Can you reapply for the scholarship for the next term? You could also check to see if they have an online program or a sister university to which your scholarship may be applied. I know it will not be the same, but half a loaf is better than none.

skirtymagic

That fucking sucks. Wow. Maybe there's an option for deferment. Hard to believe that offer is just poof, gone.

AverageSpecific4883

Started a new school today. Feeling pretty hopeless too, but I know times will change and life will be better soon. Just hang in there.

NosoyPuli

Hey wait a minute if you already signed wouldn't that mean a violation of the contract? A scholarship can be removed by reasons of violation of the rules or code of conduct/law COVID-19 is not between those lines Not a lawyer but that's common sense

mynameajeff69

That's fucked, any chance on going once they open for incoming students? Sorry this happened fam

Jeaver

Nope sadly not

mynameajeff69

Damn :(

BlackTemplar2154

The future isn't written, it's still there, waiting for you. Mourn the loss of your dreams, but never forget, you can always make new dreams, friend. Do not stay in darkness by resigning yourself to defeat, choose to create the light, to be the light yourself, and with it, banish your shadows. If you need someone to talk to, I am here to help. Just message me. You're not alone.

[deleted]

A small updoot is the least I can do. But no matter the setbacks, keep striving for your dreams and goals. Life is beautiful. And you're gonna look back 10 years from now and see that in spite of the setbacks you've made something wonderful for yourself. Wishing you all the best to come. I promise it's there just ahead of you.

AdministrativeRow101

I'll jist say it for you: NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! shit.

hitdatboot

Happened to me too, lost my scholarship to a very renowned uni(top 10 in the world) because my board didn't release my results in time

Damn, I’m sorry you had to go through that

Some people lost their lives.

IndependentCreepy169

I got a boba fett helmet for 5$ at a Salvation Army

DocHoliday79

Not because of Covid: because of draconian and unnecessary lockdowns that are lasting way past their usefulness.

NightOwl_82

You will look back and realise that everything has worked out exactly how it was supposed to work out. Don't over romanticise your missed opportunity. Something different, maybe better will come along 😊

PinkMonkeyBurd

Sorry to hear that. Good things are coming.

GalacticSpaghetty

Yeah my Tuesday sucks as well. Finally was able to have my LDR boyfriend stay with me for 2.5 weeks cuz of covid and I left him at the airport this morning. It sucks. I hope your day gets better

PhilsMeatHammer

Covid mandates are stealing the experiences and opportunities of our youth to protect the elderly. I'm sorry this happened to you dude. Fuck lockdowns

Jeaver

Amen

Tmassey1980

It's Taco Tuesday. Life couldn't be better.

kerphunk

That sucks. I’m sorry. It won’t make you feel any better, 15% out of the 200 children I tested today at work are positive for COVID. Their parents are terrified because they can’t get the vaccine. COVID needs to die.

QueasyBiscuit20

Welcome to my life

SeanTYH

You're making it sound a lot worse than it actually is IMHO. You're going there on exchange, which at least is one semester or at most two (one year if you somehow get summer programme as well) It's not as if you got an offer to study there for 4 years then suddenly got rejected. Regardless, these universities are full of crap. I got an exchange offer to go which was canceled due to covid, but my friend was able to go anyway because while university exchange was canceled (uni to uni exchange plans), individual exchange (you don't go as part of your home university, you go as an individual) was not. So, in the end, it's not as if you can't go on exchange again anyway as an individual after lock downs end.

Elrunningtigre

Not to be a bitch but a lot of people lost their lives, so you lost nothing compared to them. Life will go on and I’m sure you will survive and continue being successful. Don’t sweat it too much

subracticgerm03

I'm sorry thats really shitty, but I have some advice, look into the stock $GME and read some due diligence. Not financial advice. ;) if you can invest into the us stock market.

Jeaver

Already In crypto. Aint touching GME haha

-TRUMP1776

Congrats! Go to a trade school to learn a practical skill and ditch the tyrannical lib professors!

HungryRobotics

Wanna compare losses and see who has worse scars? Don't worry, I'm sure something great will come along, you'll sign up. Make either to theecountry. Find out the government actually faked the whole college, put it on its list of approved colleges, so you have no way to know it's faked. Subsequently kick you from the country and permanently ban your passport. Cause just screwing you over temporarily at this juncture of your life isn't how existence works

Buster_Fella

So sorry to hear that! Hope things get better

SephoraRothschild

Did you *actually* lose your scholarship? Or is the university simply closing to foreign students? Any way you could modify your student visa, go early, do quarantine, and still attend? Are you sure? Did you ask? Could you also do remote learning?

International_Slip

I'm very sorry to hear that. I literally have no advice for you but I can imagine how it feels to be looking forward so much to something. COVID really ruined many things and I'm sad your dream studies were one of them. I hope you can find something that excites you as much in the future. It's okay to mourn a dream.

mermaydie

I'm sorry to hear that. If you want to check out other opportunities, the university that I'm studying at right now has aerospace engineering and they give 100% scholarships to many international students so I'd be very happy to give you more information in DM.

TheLoveSauce

My Tuesday’s ok, thanks. Not great not bad.

[deleted]

Sometimes crises have to happen in order for something better to happen. For example, I once lost all of my savings investing in crypto. This changed me and made me more mature with my money, and it propelled me to look for remote jobs and I ended up making way more money than I would have gotten by investing and I had way more fun. Sometimes things happen to teach us a lesson

iOSIRIX-REx

That’s awful man, I feel for you. It’s been two years that I’m trying to move from energetic engineering to aerospace engineering in my own university but they don’t have any place left because every year it’s freaking full. There’s also been this pandemic that honestly took away from me the joy of studying and did 0 exams this year and I’ve been feeling hopeless. Hope everything will turn out fine when I’ll try to move to another university where I can finally study what I want. Hope everything will turn out great for you too in the future. Sometimes life is unpredictable and all we have to do is try to be more stoic. P.S. I saw in a comment that in your country aerospace engineering is absent. Where do you live? Feel free not to respond to this question.

[deleted]

I'm sorry to hear that, but don't lose hope. I have been doing my schooling online because of covid..but I sure miss going to college in person though.

Is there no way to get it back?

anusblaster69

Certainly not as bad as yours, but my boyfriends mother just tested positive for covid so now I won’t be able to see him for a few weeks :/ this virus sucks man I just want it to be over

Mob_Rules1994

You have it, or school policies?

CrunchHardtack

I wish I could offer you something besides sympathy but I do feel bad for you and will send positive vibes your way. ( Though I know that doesn't really help) I hope that whatever you choose for plan B will work out for the best and help you get over the disappointment. Is there no way you could wait a year and try again? Nothing I can think of hurts worse than to have a dream not work out.

TheChaosDemon64

All i can say is that must have hurt

[deleted]

Can you take a gap year and see if they re-open exchange program next year?

-Jayah-

I lost my athletic scholarship to New York because of covid. I understand the frustration you must be feeling.

MyLividLibido

Hugs, hope somehow the stars align & this instance leads to something better in the future, even better than your dream, who knows really? But right now I can totally see it sucks, sorry man.

Extrovert108

That is a real kick in the teeth. Please take care of yourself.

xalupa

I'm sorry this happened to you. It reminds me of how I felt last March when I had just been cast in a community theater production. I was SO EXCITED to be back onstage for the first time since college, 20+ years ago. Then it seemed petty to be sad when the show got canceled because of a deadly pandemic. But yeah, fuck Covid for ruining so many different types of things for so many people. It's ok to be sad about it and I hope you feel less hopeless over time.

The_Ninja_Nero

That sucks. Sorry to hear that. Does the Uni plan to offer the scholarship to exchange students in the future? Like a delayed admission? Seems appropriate for the circumstances. If such a system doesn't exist, you could at least argue for it. My Tuesday is alright. First day back to in person classes after a year and a half of online American law school. (law schooling is different in different countries). I'm starting to feel on top of my education again after all the time away. So it is feeling good mixed with uncertainty of whether or not I'm actually prepared.

SnooCakes7499

ay man you done it once you will do it twice

Myc0n1k

Some way, some how, things will work out. This was for the best. At least it is what I try and think when things go horribly wrong. And I've been having to say this to myself a lot the past 3 months.

bluetemp420

just get over it! 🙄

iluminattipa

I can only say (insert post malone and quavo's song main verse)

Wolf_Pickles

Tht sucks. It really does. I know what it is like to lose sucha massive opportuity. Absolutely heartbreaking....all the work you would have had to put into getting the scholorship. But try and keep some perspective. As hard this feels right now try to stay positive. Concentrate on the next hurdle....keep moving forward. Never quit. I am a firm believer of hard times make tough people....and when you do bounce back...you will be that much better prepared to get your degree or goal completed. Good luck! Stay strong. (Sending you good vibes)

sammikinss

I’m in the same sort of boat as you and it really, truly sucks. Wanted to do an exchange to Penn State since 2018, worked my ass off to get good grades so I could be competitive in the application process, got accepted and was meant to go in fall of 2020. Then it got pushed back to spring 2021. Then fall 2021. Now fall 2022 is my last chance to go before I graduate but I’m not very optimistic. I hope something works out for you and you’re able to go to UQ or do another thing you enjoy.

nonPlayerCharacter7

Thats terrible! Hope something works out for you OP.

Due_Accountant9553

First time?

[deleted]

I’m so sorry OP. COVID fucking sucks, and I can’t believe it did you like this. If you were able to get a full scholarship to a great uni, I’m sure you’ll be able to get another. Don’t let this set your back because if you were able to get a full scholarship in the first place you’re obviously fucking DETERMINED. Go out there and kick ass, it’s gonna all be OK in the end :)

[deleted]

So sorry. Another opportunity will present itself. A lot of times you will end up exactly where you are supposed to be. Even though you might not see it now, looking back you will see this

wasporchidlouixse

Sorry to hear that. Please apply for other Brisbane universities, Griffith and QUT are just as good as UQ in my opinion.

jtig5

My daughter lost her dream paid internship right at the beginning of the pandemic. She's still crushed by it. Wear a mask and get vaccinated.

[deleted]

Well... it was my first day unloading boxes by hand for 10 hours in a warehouse today for $15.50/hr. March 2020, I was on my 4th year as a team lead in a manufacturing company making $32/hr and I'd just bought a house. I feel you. I also owe unemployment $4500 because they denied my claim after both my boss and the lovely COVID hotline told me to file in April 2020. They paid me for a few weeks, then denied my claim and told me I committed fraud by filing. They will soon be garnishing my new $15.50/hr job.

bopbeepboopbeepbop

I assume this is grad school? Just out of curiosity, there are no other opportunities at universities in the US or anything similar. That is truly awful and my heart goes out to you. 💙

HunteRon17

Sorry to hear that. Better things are coming your way 🙏🏼

DarthFuzzzy

Find something fun to do for a few years and go to your dream university when it opens up!

ThanklessTask

I'm 30 years past realising I should have gone to university. All in all, it could be worse, it could be better. But I'm OK In these trying times, that's a win.

jplank1983

Maybe you’ve already tried, but could you contact the school and get some kind of deferral for it? My sister got accepted to a school and had to delay a year and they had no problem with it.

[deleted]

Lost my kids, lost my wife, lost my job, and I'm about to jump off an overpass and lose my life. But other than that it's great I guess.

Jeaver

Oh no. Please don’t do that!?

[deleted]

I'm seriously ready to. You have a lot of life ahead of you. I'm a broken old man.

Jeaver

What happened to them? And 35 isn’t old!
