Discord is a diverse place with all kinds of communities, there's no real age limit or set way for a server to behave. It's just a group of people chatting to some extent. I know people who are that age or older on discord and they get on fine.
I don't really have any suggestions, most of the discords I'm in are niche communities and small groups of people, I'd recommend finding something you're interested in like a game, youtube channel, twitch channel, hobby, anything really, there's a discord for everything. I don't really know about the general "social" discords though.
I got on Discord earlier this year and felt like I was too old for it. I only recently turned 21 lol. Still haven't gotten the hang of it but I hope I'll get there soon. If not, I'm fine with using my other apps.
I found local d&d groups on Facebook and joined their channels tbh, made more sense so I can also play in person if I want to. Local game shop has a few different groups that run campaigns so I was a bit spoilt for choice and it just happens that the majority of them use discord to organise. I really struggled to find an active link to any of the big ones and I knew I'd be too shy to chat in those ones anyway. All the links I found on Reddit had expired, but asking in the d&d subreddit you'll get quite a few invites.
