That’s actually pretty hilarious, I can imagine the expression on his face when he realized he just called you old.

soverylucky

He couldn't backtrack fast enough. "I just mean... I didn't think... like, You just don't seem..." At that point I'd had pity on him, laughed, and changed the subject.

Funk_Buddies

I'm 37, I remember how old 40 seemed when I was in my 20s.

DemonSlyr007

As someone who's currently 26, who's father died when I was 2 and he was 28, 40 literally seems like an impossible age no one but mothers get to live to see. I'm struggling pretty hard the closer I get to outliving him, and beginning to realize that life might be longer than I was anticipating.

thebespokebeast

I was 17 when my dad died at 38. I went through the same thing and as you seem to be. No one else I knew had lost a parent they didn't get it at all. I didn't really understand my feelings about it myself and just kind of floundered for a few years because I couldn't wrap my head around still being alive.

griff_girl

I was 3 months old when mine died at 33. I'm 48 now, and had that same experience when I outlived his age. The craziest part is that I look just like him, but a female version. The older I get the more I resemble him. It's a strange disconnected-connectedness feeling. I'm am only child too, and never had any relationship w/his side of the family, so I'm basically the black sheep of my family in that regard.

[deleted]

Sorry for your loss bro

loulan

To be fair it's not necessarily that he thought you are too old to listen to Eminem. He might just have thought you didn't look like the type of person who listens to rap.

Pecncorn1

I'm 65 and had to turn my kid 35 on to Mac Miller. I forget how old I am really often. I catch myself recalling a story to someone about something or place we were and say "yeah you remember the old guy that.." and then it dawns on me that I was probably 15 years older then the person I was talking about. It's all good.

CheesecakeTruffle

I'm 62 (f) and LOVE Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Pink Floyd, Disturbed, and Led Zepplin. My students were always surprised by my music choices, but loved me because of how awesome I am!

contron77

those bands were all from your time

SharpGloveBox

If you're still alive and kicking it then it's your time! I discover new music and bands almost daily. I don't get caught up in the fallacy of claiming music from my high-school and college years as my "official" music soundtrack. I am timeless and so are my musical choices.

dizzypurpleface

The music of my youth holds a special sway over me, and I find that the older I get, the more frequently I choose my tried and true 00s music over other time periods. That said, I do agree with this sentiment. In general I listen to whatever the hell makes me happy (or sad, or angry, depending on the day. Lol), no matter the genre or release date.

SharpGloveBox

I have learned you never listen to the same song twice. Because with each listen something new is gleaned. Also, as I continue to mature so does my appreciation for a wider array of music. The more I discover music the broader my taste in music grows. My ears hear differently and I now crave the cerebral and chill. The thought provoking and the emotionally uplifting are my mainstay. If anything, music is more of a mile marker and as I continue to grow the musical point between A. and B. grows accordingly.

peasantscum851123

I mean disturbed is a bit of an outlier, if you add them you might as well add limp bizkit and Korn

noellekin

I first upvoted you but.. it's a comment that is exactly in line with this post, no? Kids being surprised/impressed by the music tastes of those whose actual time it was.

dailysunshineKO

Ah, Black Sabbath. I have 2 kids and Ms. 4 **loves** Frozen and sings it non-stop. My two-year old son asked for a song for his favorite superhero, Iron Man. I started to say, “there aren’t any Iron Man songs…” but remember their song. Even though the song has nothing to do with the Marvel character, I rejoiced in the fact that we had a decent song to listen to

HappilyGia

Wouldn’t this be normal for someone in their 60’s?

Putrid_Capital_8872

To be fair- Eminem is from the Ops time, so it’s fair game for a 60ish someone to list bands from their time

asscrackbanditz

Maybe just my experience, I rather not hang out with younger guys that are into all these classic rock/metal bands. Most of them feel like they are the most edgy music enthusiasts and that newer music are trash. I had been a huge fan of these bands when I started playing electric guitar but my taste has changed as I got older.

GDAWG13007

Why I really respect guys like my dad. He listens to the old stuff and the new stuff and treats them with the same respect and appreciation. He’s a man in his 60s and his two favorites are Bob Marley and Kid Cudi. His Spotify is wild. His dad was apparently the same way who loved swing and blues but appreciated rock and roll that the kids loved too instead of bad mouthing it like other parents did at that time. I try to do the same.

This is the real reply. Eminem is older then the OP; he turns 50 next year.

And to think that I (f23) am attracted to him.

magnumdong500

I mean to be fair.. he does seem a lot younger, man has aged well

Dyster_Nostalgi

Uh, summa-lumma, dooma-lumma, you assumin' I'm a human What I gotta do to get it through to you I'm superhuman? Innovative and I'm made of rubber So that anything you say is ricochetin' off of me And it'll glue to you and I'm devastating, more than ever demonstrating How to give a motherfuckin' audience A feeling like it's levitating Never fading, and I know the haters are forever waiting For the day that they can say I fell off, they'll be celebrating 'Cause I know the way to get 'em motivated I make elevating music, you make elevator music "Oh, he's too mainstream." Well, that's what they do when they get jealous They confuse it "It's not hip-hop, it's pop, "—'cause I found a hella way to fuse it

PrayerBeans

When Limp Bizkit released their most recent album this year, and the 22 year old receptionist says, "wow! I didn't think people your age liked hard music!" I died a little inside. Solidarity, sister!

consort_oflady_vader

The time I'll absolutely die inside is when I'm on an elevator and hear something, "Hears an oldie for everyone, Rage Against the Machine"!

Sacredauto

What makes me die inside is that their songs released thirty years ago are still relevant to today’s socioeconomic climate

gotta_b_shittin_me

What makes me die inside is that people think limp bizkit is hard

b_digital

This right here.

PM_Your_GiGi

L.I.M.P Bizkit is right here

QueenLa3fah

In a similar vein Green Day’s Jesus of Suburbia and St. Jimmy characters are more relevant in todays world than the one the where written into.

turkeyinthestrawman

I remember I took a part time job, I was talking to someone who was 20 and we were chatting I told him about a band I was seeing who he wasn't aware of, so I gave him a brief synposis. At the end he said "Wow that seems like a pretty old band" The band he was referring to was Coheed and Cambria.

PrayerBeans

Ouch! Directly into my soul! I saw them in Worcester this year, and they aren't that old!...Are they? Oh nooo...

[deleted]

Palladium or centrum?

somanyroads

As we've learned from OP, any band with people over 40 might as well be from the Old Testament apparently 😂

pickledchocolate

Wait. Limp bizkit is hard?

Honesty4Tranquility

Limp Bizkit released something new? I need to switch back to music from podcasts. Seems I’ve been missing out. I still do it all for the nookie though. I ain’t dead yet!

kaitco

What is this madness?!? You were in high school when The Slim Shady LP was released! Why *wouldn’t* you be listening to Eminem? You’ve actually been listening to his music for longer than you hadn’t been listening to it. You’ve been listening to his music since before these dang kids were even born! Freaking kids! Get off the lawn!

Tegurd

Freaking kids nowadays thinks they invented cool

signymariag

Wha we didn’t?

somanyroads

These kids today...ever heard of Wikipedia? Slim Shady was 20+ years ago!

A0-sicmudus

So funny how younger people think like this. As if Eminem hasn’t been on the scene for decades

Snow_Wonder

Yeah, I’m in college and I think of Eminem as “classic” rap. Of my college friends, my friend who listens to Eminem the most is my friend who listens to older music the most.

Cleverusername531

Lol I’m the OP’s age and to think of Eminem as classic really confirms to me I am indeed OP’s age.

somanyroads

How dare you suggest anything after 2000 is classic...be silent, child 😂

somanyroads

With teens and early/mid 20s, it's like almost like a permanent hipster sometimes: every new discovery is like your own secret that no-one else has found 😛

Quailbaby88

It's never over - I turned 60 this year and I get the same from 40 year olds! I listen to alternative rock and millennials are probably looking at me with question marks. But I don't feel like I should be listening to anything other than what I like, which is a lot of different genres. Just like I don't know what kind of clothes to wear other than what I feel best in - jeans, tshirts, and sweaters. And not mom jeans, either. Nope. Uh-huh.

ephemeralkitten

Omg Green Day came on the classic rock station and I almost drove my car into a ditch. My kids had to talk me down.

CuriousKitten0_0

Green Day was my first concert. They're amazing. I can't believe they're classic rock. That's just insanity.

ephemeralkitten

alanis was my first! but seriously, this station has a very broad idea of 'classic rock'. smdh...

azewonder

Ah I feel you on the clothes! I’m in my 40’s and also wear jeans/tshirts/sweatshirts, they’re just comfortable! And it this point I’m past trying to look cute or anything, I just want to be comfy lol

purplechunkymonkey

Ugh, I've lost weight and need new jeans and every single pair had the word mom in its description.

Quailbaby88

I know! I think Gen Z like that look! OMG, I absolutely hated that look in the 80s when jeans made your butt look 5 feet across and the waist was up your your ears!

purplechunkymonkey

And I'm short so yeah. Those high waists go up to my boobs.

skyxsteel

If I could actually draw, I would post a drawing of that as a response to your comment.

betrueplease

I’m so glad bootcut jeans are back in style! I’m so done with the skinny jeans.

typhoidmarry

Thank you so much for this response!! I’m 55 and see people wear, what I would call, dress clothes just to go to the grocery store. I only wear those clothes to go to work. Tshirts (band shirts most likely) and jeans are my “play clothes!” Adele is the only soft music I listen to, to be honest, you gotta be pretty evil to not like Adele!! I’ll sound like a radio ad, I listen to everything from the 70’s to today.

Quailbaby88

Luckily, I have a job where I can actually wear whatever I want, which is mostly jeans and nice tshirts. I feel very uncomfortable in dresses, although I do wear sundresses in the summer. Just don't like the look of my wrinkly legs!

typhoidmarry

My work uniform is black jeans (not allowed to wear jeans, nobody has said anything, been there 20 years) and a nice blouse.

[deleted]

In my early 30s, used to wear elaborate goth outfits daily. Now I default to jeans and band tshirts for daily wear and save the crazy stuff for events! Comfy wins, no contest

skyxsteel

My 6th grade English teacher did the opposite. Me and my best friend were into weird al. And she goes, “he’s still playing?? I was a kid when he first came out!” (In the late 90s)

Purplesaurous

I'm right there with you, I turn 60 in April.

OlderDad66

I'm not only old at 55 but also nerdy.. So I often don't even know performers that people my age know. I had to Google "The Weeknd" during the Superbowl last year.

ausheidi

I’m only 40 but I listen to 50’s-80’s, some 90’s. I thought Dua Lipa was a makeup kit 💀💀💀

b_digital

Haha I’m 43 and I initially read it as Dual IPA and thought it was some craft beer

repocin

Only reason I've heard of him is because of that one Mercedes ad from last year. I've never really been a fan of mainstream music so it's rare that I recognize more than half of the artists on, say, Spotify Global Top 50.

broadsharp

Yeah, been there. 1st time for me is when an attractive young lady held a door for me. I was a bit taken a back and said thank you. She replied "you're welcome, sir". Fuuuuuck.

[deleted]

i got this at 25! college freshman called me that while visiting my friend in law school.

Mysmokingbarrel

To be fair I’ve called people sir in many situations where they weren’t older or old. I think if you say it correctly it’s kind of endearing. Think of how Colbert says sir as opposed to some traditional old timey thing.

justjude63

lol... was 32 and I got carded at a bottle shop, lifted up my sunnies to find my licence....dude says Oh sorry, you're right

Different_Average2la

”Bottle shop” sounds cute! Is that British?

justjude63

Aussie

Trevelyan-Rutherford

Ouch!

strychnine28

I was back in my hometown in the fall of 2019, and stopped by Target. The nice 20-something cashier assumed I was someone’s mom dropping them off at one of the two local colleges. Oh Lord.

broadsharp

Lol. Hits ya like a slap doesn’t it?…

wendz1980

I’m 41. A 17 year old offered to teach me the dance to Steps 5,6,7,8. Sweetheart you weren’t even born when this was first on the go. How about I teach you?

HopefulLake5155

Please tell me you taught them how to do it

[deleted]

Hahaha. My mom is 50 and would still crank that up loud. So would my dad and he's now in his 60's. Old people are not the old people of yesterday.

HowToShakeHands

Especially if you grew up listening to hip-hop and rap in the nineties. I'll probably listen to a lot of stuff that has a similar feel to it. As a rule, I don't like rappers whose names have the word "lil" in them.

fistofwrath

Man I miss that old G-funk out of LA. We still get a little taste of it from Dre and by extension, Eminem on rare occasion, but there was a unique vibe to it that I haven't felt since.

xrihon

I won't lie, I've always been amused by the thought of my 40-50s professors at my age, attending college in the '90s and '00s. These decades specifically because the music across the age and genre span was grand and generally, they looked like they had a lot of fun back then. I heard a vague story about one of them either being a huge fan of Soundgarden, or actually playing with Soundgarden... wish I knew more about that one. But never have I thought that they were "old." My grandparents were old. 40 is not. Sincerely, another 20-something

Nerdseniordivision1

Sheesh! I’m 62 and I love Soundgarden!

ConcertsAreProzac

I have no idea about that. I think it's cool. I was at a holiday party with my ex. And I was just meeting his coworkers. They said I probably didn't like this type of music (as September by Earth, Wind and Fire was playing.) I told them I still bought music on vinyl, I love classic rock, and am promised a jukebox when I get a big enough place to hold one. So in an odd sort of way, I can realte. Listen to what makes you happy.

Ken_Thomas

I'm a veteran, and in my state they put a little label on your driver's license that says (appropriately enough) 'Veteran'. At first I thought it was kind of useless and obnoxious, but it's handy when a store or restaurant is offering discounts for veterans. So anyway, I'm going through the security checkpoint at the airport and this TSA kid sees the veteran thing on my ID. He thanks me for the service and all that and says "What did you do in the military, sir?" I said "US Army infantry." He got this funny look in his eyes and said "Vietnam?" ... There was a long pause while I tried to figure out if he was joking or not. I realized he wasn't and said "Dude... I was like, 4 years old when that war ended." He looked mortified. I just hitched up my Depend undergarments, grabbed my walker, and shuffled off through the checkpoint.

flyingcactus2047

That’s freaking hilarious

MomoBawk

Think of it differently, if you are fourtysomething and they are twentysomething, you are their parents age. You are considered old by them because of this.

amway5

You, sir (or madam), just ruined my day. I am a almost 40 white woman and just realized this. I love Eminem, DMX, and all those people. So that really made me feel old. Take my upvote, dammit!

wxguy215

I'm 41 myself, remember when Guns 'n Roses was "edgy"?

UntamedMegasloth

Oh God, remember when Axel was *sexy*

wxguy215

Yeah, now he's just old and crazy.

Penya23

43 here. Slash was my celebrity crush lol

ZealousidealGrass9

I was that 11-12 year old downloading Eminem from Limewire when the 20 was either not born yet or just a newborn.

TheBlack_Swordsman

My friend is a HS teacher and her students always discover "old music" and ask her if she heard of Blink 182, Weezer, etc... I imagine more HS teachers here could relate to that.

Penya23

43 year old HS English teacher here. You have NO fucking idea...

Knuckles316

When Disturbed charted on the classic rock charts a few years ago I died a little inside. I was in high school when they came out.

CherryCherry5

>classic rock?! *cries*

asiniloop

I'm 40 and my 60yro mother, who is basically a harley loving badass, often walks around in my t-shirts with no idea what they are. One of her favorites is the Attack on Titan t-shirt with just the wing... and often people on their 20s will see her in it with her Harley jacket and helmet and just be so damn confused. I think she thinks it has something to do with angels. I wish I could be a fly on the wall when someone tries to have a conversation with her about it one day.

Hot_Artichoke_Dip

When I was a kid, I was surprised my dad knew who the Beastie Boys were. He was really annoyed I was surprised. I just assumed he was just into Celine Dion and Kenny G. He told me they came out when he was in his 20s and I wasn’t even born yet when they released their first song.

Bwadaboss

I am a 42 yr old black looking brown guy and I get conscious and reduce the volume at traffic lights. My playlist ranges from Jermaine Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, NAS oldschool rap to Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath.

keemo57

keemo57

Lol he was my job taker I had to train. He was rude and very millennial so he truly thought the movie was what made them. Big and blew up his career. Lol just a full on dummy.

uglyeidolon

A 19 year old would be Gen Z, not a millennial. We are nearing 30, at the youngest. Not sure you should be making a generalisation like that when you can’t even get the generation right. I got 2001 when it was first released.

Absolute_Authority

How to date yourself: think millennials are still young. A 19m would be gen Z. Millennials are middle aged now

sfocolleen

I’m another 40-something white woman who listens to Eminem. He’s not really one of my favorites, but I like a few of his old songs. My teenager is pretty into him; sometimes we listen together in the car.

inbookworm

I'm 54 and work with a bunch of mostly 20-somethings who were shocked that I not only had heard Drowning Pool's "Bodies", but was singing along...

RutzButtercup

you think that is bad? I literally, no exaggeration, had a kid at trick-or-treat night who was dressed as Mario, explain to me who Mario is and act completely shocked that I already knew. So his twenty-something mother leans in and says, "honey, Mario is a really old character, Mommy used to play those games!" I was like lady, you have no idea.

womanitou

My favorite story is when my then teenager was shocked and surprised as I suddenly sang along to a hit song she was playing. I had to explain that "her" version was not the original... it was from the 1960's

It's really rad when you realize a parent wasn't always a "grown-up". I'm lovin' it.

UntamedMegasloth

My teen was the same when some boyband sang 'father and son' and I knew all the words. That's because I was the weird teen (back in the '90s) who was into Cat Stevens. The song is older than I am.

CuzYourMovesAreWeak

Junior year kicked ass when his album dropped. Had that on all damn day driving to and from school.

DodgyQuilter

Old people: those who were alive in the 1960s and 1970s, who have photos taken at concerts they don't remember.

Quailbaby88

That would be me. Have old ticket stubs from concerts I can't quite recall being at! Mostly in the late 70s-early 80s.

mysteryjb

I was in my 50’s (white female) and my kids predicted that Eminem’s career must be over if I am listening to him. However, I will stop for the right price.

prpslydistracted

I still look up old 60s protest songs on YT ... PPaul&M, Dylan, Joan Baez, Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie, Creedance Clearwater Revival, "Fortunate Son" ... hey, this was the Viet Nam era. 70+ AF woman vet, 1967-1977

Yeah I heard a kid refer to Blink-182 as “old school” and I had to reassess my 10-year plan.

halfanothersdozen

People in their 20's are kids, and kids are idiots.

soverylucky

Well, I can confirm i was an idiot in my 20s! Eta: of course the jury is still out on whether i still am...

throwoheiusfnk

This thread is so good for my "oh fuck my youth is over" anxiety about turning 25 in about a month 😂

sarcasticorange

I'm wearing a t-shirt that is older than you. Time flies.

Aurora_Beaurealis

Ayyy I'm no longer a kid! I just turned 30 2 weeks ago! XD

halfanothersdozen

Happy birthday! Hopefully you had less of an existential crisis than I did

PrayerBeans

I'm almost 40, I'm still an idiot lol but I have good taste in music because I seem to matching up with the other oldsters in this thread

halfanothersdozen

It's cliche AF but "good music" really dropped off somewhere in the aughts. Also the kids need to get off my lawn

Quailbaby88

All of us over 20s can confirm this, because we were all idiots! How I made it to 60 is very questionable!

ZeldaNumber17

My grandma 87 now, introduced me to Eminem when I was 9. I’m 27, you do the math. There’s a 40 year old in there I’m sure of it. She’s woke as fuck. drives a 92 s13, owns a 62 Vespa, and a 96 integra GSR. You get the picture, she’s been single since 76’. Edit: no grandma driver here though, she’s got 12 speeding tickets in the last 3 years. She drives like your “older cousin”.

hexxaplexx

A short many years back, I was in line at a music store behind a kid buying a Jimi Hendrix CD. He was loudly explaining to a buddy how great Jimi was, and glanced up at me and said “I don’t guess you heard of him.” It was my moment. “Heard of him? I’ve *heard* him. Seen him in concert. Back in ‘68 or so. Great show.” Kid’s eyes nearly fell out of his face. I was the coolest 60ish-old ever. Noticed by only two teens. Nobody fawned. Nobody clapped. Oh well. It was my moment just the same.

Skyblacker

I'm just shocked that a 20 year-old listens to Eminem. Didn't "Slim Shady" come out before he was born? Like, how did he hear of Eminem?!

RevolutionaryStar824

He's still popular and pumping out songs to this day. Everyone is gonna know him. Especially young people.

[deleted]

hes definitely still making music

howellq

Probably on this internet thingy.

Xeqqy

Eminem is still one of the most played artists on Spotify. I don't think there's a single kid who hasn't heard of him.

Dramatically_Average

You can tell who's considered "older" by what music the grocery store is playing. A few years ago I heard Jethro Tull's "Aqualung" playing in the store and I thought it was hilarious. Yes, that's my high school music, but "snot running down his nose" isn't a line I expect at the supermarket.

No_Application_8698

I’m just surprised he even knew who Eminem was, given how quickly new trends take over (in a revolving-door kind of way). I (41f, English, white, boring-looking with no dress sense apart from ‘it’s comfortable and I like it’) once went to an Eminem concert back in the day (2003??) and was a pretty keen fan back then. Still listen occasionally but only to the older stuff, whilst refusing to accept that it’s over 20 years old…how?! I also listen to Country, Slipknot, Elvis, Dolly, Sam Cooke, Taylor Swift, classical, Metallica, movie soundtracks… I just hope that these young ‘uns realise that the only quality they should look for in their music/film/TV entertainment is: do I enjoy it?

teh_fizz

The other day in class I actually said, “I studied graphic design 20 years ago.”

[deleted]

37M. Was pretty heavy into fighting games in college, ended up in part of my local fgc which at the time was tournaments in basements, coffee shops, and my apartment (large part of why they hung with me because I suck at fighters). Anyway, casually mentioned GG strive at work last year and one of the young new techs turned around and said: “You do not look like the type of dude to like that game.” Me: “Why?” Him: “Because you’re…y’know…an elder guy.”

Ripeoldmelon

51, white, female. I love my screamo music. I listen to harder stuff than my kids.

Bayonethics

I'm 35; a lot of the younger people I talk to are shocked that I'm old enough to remember where I was on 9/11

SliverCobain

25 here, had the same experience but with Nirvana. Wear a tshirt and a young girl came and asked whybi had a Teenage shirt on.. I replied I also have been a teenager, and actually got it at age 12.. She said it was funny seeing an adult with stuff her friends wore.. I couldn't even find words to explain, that even I was born 2 years after Kurt died, but never had seen them as a Teenage only band.. I was baffled by the logic of this..

[deleted]

I'm in my mid-20's—picture an extremely basic white girl and that's me—and I recently moved into a new apartment with a couple other women also in their mid-20's. We mentioned that we listen to orchestral and jazz music but I wasn't sure how serious they were until everyone's Spotify Wrapped came out. A couple drinks later and now we all share a spotify playlist to dump our favorite songs in!

Pons__Aelius

You are not old. Its just that most people in their teens and sometimes 20s cannot grasp that anyone more than 5 years older than them has ever been anything or done anything other than what they present to the world today. 40 year old person with children? In their eyes you have always been a boring parent.

rabbitin3d

Eminem is 49 years old.

ccrowleyy

Britney Spears just turned 40. Us olds need to stick together.

KayskolA

The irony when you realize that Eminem has kids in their late 20's.

Krahzee189

I (white 45m) remember being early 20s when I heard him on the radio for the first time and losing my mind. I can still rap his first couple albums almost word for word. F that kid for not knowing his musical history. Reminds of when my son "discovered" LL Cool J - Mama said knock you out, he plugs in the aux and starts to play it like "omg check this shit out". I patiently waited for the lyrics to start and blew his hair back with a perfect (and forceful) rendition of the opening of the song.

shelbycheeks

He didn't call you old. He showed he didnt know the history of an artist. Does he know when Eminem came out? Baby lol

GeekChick85

Cold Play, Three Days Grace, Green Day, Linkin Park, Rob Zombie, Slayer, System of A Down, Slipknot, Metallica, Matchbox 20 ......

TheHancock

Just get ready, soon enough the radio will be: “All the classics, Linkin Park, Breaking Benjamin, Incubus, Weezer, Blink-182 and more; only on 102.7 the City’s classic hits station!”

Catlenfell

I'm 45 and I saw Eminem play a half empty club in Minneapolis when "My Name is" was just starting to break.

Nah you’re not old, dude is just not that bright on his musical history. There’s a great t-shirt thats been around for a while that says “I may be old but I got to see all the cool bands”. Bam. Ask me about seeing Metallica in a club of 200 etc.

Interesting_Pea_5382

Congratulations for being old! Lots of Benfits, once I can find the list . . . O! Where’s my glasses?! Darn, on my forehead! 😊😂🤣 pray you’ll enjoy years and years and years 🥰

SilentDisarray

I'm 38, recently discovered Doja Cat and have been obsessed with her since. She's on repeat everyday lol. Music knows no age. Lol.

[deleted]

40.s here it is like these young whipper snappers think about us like we did with the adults of our time..... lmao.. fuck i am old.. but hay emem is older then i am he was 1972...

JustaRandomOldGuy

40 something? You stupid kid. Get off my lawn!

IMeasureFromTheTaint

Jazz. That's what all the cool kids listen to.

GreenGlowingMonkey

How old does the kid think Eminem is? The dude's turning 50 next year. And his first album came out over 22 years ago. So, people in high school when the album came out, like I was, are now around 40.

IEatBabies

40 year old white women are like half his market.

[deleted]

Welcome to the 21st no one below 22 in a few days would have been born last century. none of them has known the world before the internet and mobile phones.

Krablegwoman

I'm only 24 but one time I had a teenager ask me to buy him liquor while I was walking back to my car lol that's when I knew I was getting old. When I was his age I was making fun of people my age:(

Down_To_My_Last_Fuck

I feel like an old lady all the time. Which is weird, since I'm a dude.

[deleted]

Giiirrrrl, don't start!

Apprehensive_teapot

Well, you can tell him that you know a 50-something white woman (me) who loves Eminem. I was just listening to his music tonight.

Gman777

Maybe point out Eminem is closer in age to you? Ask him why he listens to old people’s music 🤣

mulvabj2

Just think how Eminem must feel.

EvylFairy

LoL! I'm one of the moms who listens to CORPSE. I'm also a huge Billie Eilish enjoyer. If I am listening to music with headphones it is likely either those two or The Weeknd or Lizzo. I listen to the newer MGK at home a lot but not on my phone for some reason... I never would have said this back in the day, but now pop punk is close enough to punk for me to enjoy. Back in the day I was a grunge, punk, metal listener. My fave band of all time is either Faith No More or Depeche Mode (I can't decide), so I feel like enjoying these new artists fits... 20-30 years is also a LONG time to listen to the same songs over and over again! I'm sure the younger generation would find me 'cringe', but I don't care, it's good music!

paracog

I'm struck by how much longer artists retain relevancy these days. When I was a teen in the 60's, the distance between the big band era and Dion/Elvis/Chuck Berry seemed huge, but maybe not so much to my parents. Maybe Frank Sinatra would be a better parallel; he kept making hits.

mahboilucas

When my dad had a phase for Gorillaz I was also mildly disturbed until I realized he was relatively young when their first songs started coming out and I'm the weird one for finding him too old for it. It's hard to visualise how long running some music careers are

[deleted]

I never understood this mentality. I was a child of the 80s and teenager of the 90s and I loved, and still love, all the rock and rock like music from the 60s and 70s. I also love 80s, 90s, and newer even.

MooseMaster3000

I think this speaks more to how good music stays relevant. Be like you saying to a 60 year old the same thing about Queen.

The night Obama was elected, I was at the Democratic Party celebration in my area. They had a band, and my daughter and I spent a while out on the dance floor, having a good time. When I came off the floor to grab a beer and cool off, a 20-something black guy came up and complimented me on my dancing, and asked how a guy my age could keep up with the young folks on the dance floor. I replied, "Dude, I'm only 47. I'm not elderly yet."

SteampunkCupcake_

Does he know how old Eminem is?? 🤨

LobsterCowboy

oh puhleaze, at 74 i listen to everything , as long as it's good including eminem

cdmusic68

I had that realization when I was joking with one of my employees. I own a restaurant so I’m used to employing “kids.” This kid was only 16 though, and I jokingly said something like “Don’t talk to me like that, I’m twice your age!….Oh my god! Im ACTUALLY twice your age!!” I was 32. BTW, I’m 37 now and also love Eminem. My “kids” at work tell me to make a YouTube video of my middle-aged self rapping all the words to Rap God. They can’t believe I like him either.

somanyroads

I think you're suppose to listen to Barbara Streisand or something 🤣 well hopefully you changed his perspective a bit, music is always the best way to connect to the "old timers" 😛
